1.
thanks!
Just looked - I have a genuine Fender 51 reissue Pickguard and a CV 50's P bass. Unfortunately the Fender guard won't fit without some modding. I would try to find someone on basschat who can make you a replacement from your original that will fit exactly.
2. I have both, I'll try and have a look tomorrow.
3.
I've got one of those for my VF-1... it's currently out at a mate's studio and I won't be over there again until next week. I might just have the second screw that came with the rack tray tucked away in the VF1 box though, which is at home somewhere. I'll have a look when I get home
Thank you, a very kind offer. I have plenty of the correct size now though.😄
4. Success! 3rd time lucky, it's an M4x8 pan pozi screw should anyone else need to do the same. These fit the VF-1, SE-70, and the Boss Microrack series.
5.
After some delving around on the internet for a while, I discovered that the Roland TD-5 uses a couple of M3x6 screws to attach to a RAD-50. I have ordered some and a few washers. We'll find out in a couple of days if it's the correct size.
Nope, these are not the ones either. M4x8 are the final ones I'm going to buy and then it's just getting gaffered to the tray!

7. They have arrived and are not the right size😟 These seem tiny, M3's needed perhaps?
8. Yeah, I have a limited run short scale version, as above it sounds great but, is best played sitting down due to the neck dive.
9. That sounds right to me. Watch this series of vids by John Curruthers, It explains the full process. https://www.youtube....h?v=te44eWXd9pc

11. Right, For future reference I ordered these: M2x5 pozi pan machine head screws https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/361516262481 I'll post the results when they arrive.
12. Good call, I will.
13.
IIRC the screw length is fairly short - as the indent in the rack tray plays a large part in holding the unit in place.
Agreed, Having measured with a cocktail stick as suggested, the hole goes right thorough to the other side of the case, suggesting there is also a hole in the main pcb. That said, I think 10mm would be more than enough. I'm assuming something like this will work: https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/en/products/m2x10-pan-pozi-machine-screw-mild-steel-bright-zinc-plated-din-7985?utm_medium=google_shopping&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=google_shopping&gclid=CjwKEAjwgPe4BRCB66GG8PO69QkSJAC4EhHhRMIeZwuFikz8HogWlMG0Tfe2h2Ug1eXpYTkIB0pn9xoCcWjw_wcB
14. HI Matt ,thanks for your reply. I have an old Alesis unit that uses a similar system and it does have the screw size stamped into the case, so good call there. The Boss units I have don't have anything stamped into the chasis. On measuring it, it appears to be 2mm in diameter. Good advice on finding the length too.
15. Does anyone know where I can find, or what size screw to buy to to attach my Boss 1/2u units to a rack tray. I managed to get hold of a RAD-50, but it has no screws. The threaded mount is the recessed one in the bottom of the Boss unit:
16.
I had one of those, I considered it my first 'proper' bass when I bought it back in the early 90's, mine was the off-white passive version, like this:
Yeah, mines passive too, but black. Good basses, I nearly had a 2nd hand P copy, but opted for this instead.
17. I got an Aria pro II Laser Electric Heritage new in 1985, lucky me! - still have it, its actually a really great sounding bass. I don't use it much, but like the nostalgia it brings.
18. Just completed a bass trade with Derek. The whole deal was seamless throughout. Great communication from the start and a fair deal of trust involved by both parties. Couldn't be happier, would highly recommend. EDIT for typo
19.
BSP sale pending to Mr Zep Bass!
Happy days!
20. Thanks to both of you for your responses, I think I've been convinced this is a bad idea.
21. Right, heres my thinking: I have a VB-99, which is great and provides any effects I need when recording. One aspect of it that has always left me wanting was the Bass to MIDI feature. It would be really useful to be able trigger MIDI accurately using a bass, as its the instrument I'm most comfortable on. Whist the Bass to MIDI feature tracks well for a bass to MIDI converter, its still a bit laggy and latent even with tight technique. My understanding of this is that trying to track such low notes is awkward and will always have some inherent lag. So, how about using a Piccolo bass with a hex pickup to capture the note? - once i'm in the world of MIDI I can then just shift it down an octave again to get it back to standard bass range. My question really is to anyone that has done this or is using a Piccolo bass. Is it better to have a shorter scale length to stop the strings being super tight? or is it better to have tight strings in order to keep the feel of the bass. I'm thinking of using these strings: http://www.stringsdi...ss-strings-p881 ...and popping them on something like a Squier SS Jaguar bass. If need be I can then blend the signal from the Mag pickups back in. Or, should I stop carrying out experiments in MIDI, accept the fact I need to become a better keyboard player and spend the time practicing that instead.
