1. Looking forward to the updates. good luck with your venture, if I start saving now maybe I'll be in contact!!!
2. Quite like the look of that but alas funding one is a no no! Whats the name of your band playing CAI, and what's happening there ?
3. Cheers for the replies people. yup she doesnt come on here Paul! And I'll appreciate if you don't mention I called her clumsy as she'll kill me! That reminds me, I really must send you those books!
4. Hey Cetera thanks for the pics- Ive often read your replies to threads and looked at your signature and wondered what all those basses looked like! Much kudos to you!
5. Hey guys Ive finally brought my new bass home but as space is a bit of an issue and dont fancy my clumsy girlfriend putting her foot through it I need a stand for it. Can anyone reccomend one? I dont want to spend too much but then again I dont want a cheap and nasty one either so any advice is much appreciated! cheers stu
6. cheers for that! great stuff! I love hearing isolated tracks like that and hearing how they all cement together. takes away none of the wonder (excuse the pun) of the track by hearing it dissected like that Reminds me of a few years back on the old bassworld site someone posted a link to isolated led zep drum tracks where you could hear john bonham grunting and effing and jeffing his way through the tracks. Wasnt there a post way back with lots of different isolated tracks

8. my mates just bought one of these. great fun but alas little use to me at the mo. have a bump and I'll spread the word!
9.
exit international Local dudes. 2 really dirty tones, one does most of the low and the others more like er lead. Interesting stuff, they played at the venue I was doing sound at on sat. TIGHT as hell!
+1 on these guys as well.
10.
Some great answers here so I'm sure my 2c will pail into insignificance by comparison. Firstly I bought a starting double bass DVD and took on board all the advice (£12 well spent), secondly little and often practice, thirdly get a powerball and finally get a lesson or two. I'm still stuck on 4 and I must pull my finger out. I've gone from not being able to do a whole song to doing 4 gigs this year on it.
May I ask which book and dvd you got? Im in a position at the mo where I could just afford one or two lessons but the nature of my work means my working hours are all over the place so lessons arent really ideal just yet
11. they sound fine. Im a big fan of the little peavey amps as well. Nice and small but loud enough to play in certain band arrangements. Ive seen them on here for 35-50 quid. Not often I reccomend behringer but I quite like their small wedge bass amps which are cheap as chips as well. (I'll probably get flamed for reccomending them but hey, its got a cd input, graphic eq etc.)
12.
Another Blazer, here's my '81.
I absolutely love the shape of the headstock! Would love one of these but alas I cant justify it
13. I visualise notes as colours, but I can't actually see the colours. Instruments have colours also, havent done it for a while but when I used to map out tracks when recording onto a computer, each instrument track had a designated colour that had to be my way. If it was different, I'd swear it would sound wrong. I never mention this to people as it just makes me look mad. (probably explains why Ive never owned a bass or a guitar that isnt red or sunburst.) With drum rhythms I can draw the patterns on paper as well, couldnt tell you what the time signature is but I can draw a scrawly picture of it!
14. there's a nice looking 64 rivoli for sale on ebay at the mo. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-Rivoli-bass...3DLVI%26ps%3D54 It may be worth seeing how much that goes for and price accordingly. Get some pics up and I'm sure there'd be some interest here! (I'd love one but I have a feeling the price may be out of my reach)
15. Whenever I have to get filming kit together for overseas shoots I always make sure we have peli cases as they are light and virtually indestructable. I vaguely remember ped saying one of the peli rifle cases would fit a bass.
16. Mine was borrowed for about a year from a band mate. twas a BC rich bass in cream (looked like duffs from GNR) and a laney dp 150 bass combo. hated the bass as I wasn't fond of anything with pointy headstocks and I didnt understand the concept of action or playability on a bass. Managed to afford my own bass the following year which is still my number 1, good ole mex jazz bass. Wasnt too fond of the combo either which I did buy as it was too big as a combo with 4x10 speakers and the controls had too many switches and dials that I didnt have a clue what to do with. sold it on finally about 2 years ago for 50 quid. EDIT- oh yeah my current rig is yet another laney combo, got rid of my swr rig as it wasnt being used and the laney is on loan to a friend until I need it
17. I'd say listen to the bass playing on abbey road, some of that was pretty heavy. Ive often thought Macca could complement Josh Hommes grooves.
18. Picked this bass up last night. Had some great fun with it but then had to pack it up and leave it at my friends house as Im about to move house and havent got the room just yet Fingers crossed this bass will lead on to great things and inspire me to get playing out there again
19. Yup I'm happy to throw a few sheckles into the pot! Its often the case that I'm working very odd and often changing hours (the wonders of TV!) so when you get a date pencilled I'm hoping I can come along
20. Absolutely love EB2s or the epiphone equivalent for that matter. one day, one day...
21. I vaguely remember reading an article that some band like 'scouting for girls 'or 'the feeling' (one of those record company created bands) met Phil Lynnot's mum and she let them play his bass. So, I'd say his mothers got it
22. Im in the process of buying a DB at the mo and if its in Bristol I'd be quite interested in coming along as its not too far from cardiff
23. Im a fan of the guys playing as well. When I heard the album for the first time I thought maybe a ricky or fender mustang. When I saw them on tv for the first time I thought he was playing an ibanez jet king- similar styling but alas I dont think its a hollow body. couldnt really comment on the sound of that bass though.
24. A mate of mine might be interested in this- would you say its got more of a jazz bass neck?
