Hi Dave, Welcome to BC. Great you're totally in it for the cause. We'll put you right in the frontline when we're attacked by g*****rists. Enjoy the site!

Have got almost all of them, but not the Jefferson Airplane and the Pink Floyd. Do have others by the same bands though. Don't have any Rush, btw. Have never connected. I was pleasantly surprised he'd list Björk and Radiohead, and surprised he listed Fleet Foxes (but I do have that album, and like it a lot).

Greetings from Warwick Basses & Framus Guitars!
BassTractor replied to Warwick_Official's topic in Introductions
Noooooooooooooooo !!!! I thought they came from Warwick in Warwickshire , and were Made in UK
Doesn't matter to me. I strictly buy all my Warwicks from Leamington (Royal Leamington Spa for you), so I'm not affected by this. -

Me: "I've played with Bill Bruford" Truth: Had to get something from a cupboard in the room where BB was doing a course. BB asked me for an A on the piano besides the cupboard. Oh yes, I've played with Bill Bruford alright! -
I'll never forget Kate Bush's big wide eyes when she last saw me and said.... "I've told you before, get off my lawn, there's a restraining order on you, guards! Release the hounds! That pervert's back again...."
HAAAAA! I remember you! Me 'n' Kate had one h*ll of a laugh afterwards. -
Hi Terry, Welcome to BC! Or should I say "Welcome from BC"? Happily though, you're only as old as you're young. Enjoy the fora! Forums! Forii!

Experiences with electric viola da gamba?
BassTractor replied to BassTractor's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Cracking band but not keen on the singer, YMMV of course.
It might, but it doesn't. IMHO, she's got too little voice and too little interpretation, musicality, depth, expression and audience contact. Her mileage may vary of course, and the cameras may have had an impact as well for all I know. Cracking band though. -
Marketing Ploys ... Do you fall for them?
BassTractor replied to BassPimp66's topic in General Discussion
Flute metals: silver definitively sounds better than cheap metal. However, gold does not sound better than silver in many people's ears, including mine. Gold flutes (not 100% mind ya) lack overtones and have a "round" and dull sound. SIlver sounds more characterful and "rounded rectangular". Silver's good tonemetal. :-) -
Isn't that a Travis Bean? Don't know about the basses but Travis Bean guitars are brilliant.
The Travis Beans had a clear "T" in the headstock, remember?
That's what I'll probably do but if it's an easy fix I might give it a go.
Keep looking. In all respect and friendliness: if I understand you correctly, the fact that you are not already sure about this, indicates that you don't have the experience or tools. It IS an easy fix, but you want a rig that guarantees that you don't get this half a millimeter wrong.

Hey Fellrunner, I hear you loud 'n' clear. Welcome to BC, or rather: welcome to the surface. Enjoy the banter s'more!

Now that. Sigh. Hadn't heard about a scam like this before. If this indeed is new, I'm afraid it's gonna be very effective and with lots of potential, as stage 2 is the interesting bit. It should however last only for a very short period. That said, some people still fall for the Nigeria scams, so who knows...
Been a big fan for ages. I always think part of his genius was in being a catalyst for superb, hungry musicians by pushing them beyond what they thought they would be able to do. I still find some of the solos hard to listen to, some of his humo(u)r a bit puerile and some of his shtick annoying. That said, some of his solos are beautiful 'air sculptures', some of the humo(u)r is rapier-like and some of his shtick is inspiring. It's a bit like an intellectual wrestling match. With bald dwarves. In glittery pig sh!t.
This deserves to be repeated.
this is a great record....
I believe you. From the little I've heard, they're my fave acid jazz band. I'll check that one out, acid jazz or not. Thx.

Have Fender black nylons changed?
BassTractor replied to Dom in Dorset's topic in General Discussion
....but unfortunately they don't do them in 5 sets.....
Your nylons look just fine as they are. No need to change to Fender. -
Hey Deanoet, Welcome to BC from another noob. This is a very friendly and humouristic place, and has lots of knowledgeable people who are very helpful. If you're normal, you should be enjoying the site. As said, I'm a noob, but AFAIU, the buzz is normal. One learns how to behave to minimise it, as bassist have done for six decennia now. Your pick-ups most probably are passive, and your tone knob most probably regulates a passive filter. Had these been active, then there would have been a battery compartment cover, and your buzz would probably have been a lot less or non existing. I write "most probably" because I once saw an instrument with battery behind the pickguard - probably a cheapo thing, Idunno. Your Vintage, at any rate, is a Fender Precision copy, or "P" in short. Have no idea what VIntage called this, but possibly just that: "P" AFAIK, Vintages are OK. In the shop they'll set it up, and it should play just fine after that. The strings look like roundwounds, and then should be shifted indeed. The single most important thing is for the shop to check how bent the neck is and set this - essential - bend so you can comfortably start your career. It's probably a good idea to stay around here. Lots of info to pick up. Good luck!
I have replied to a couple of ads but I haven't had any replies. How/where do I get access to the replies?
It depends. People can answer in the thread itself or send you a Personal Message. If it's a PM, you should be abe to see that in the envelope icon at the top of the screen while you are logged in.

Experiences with electric viola da gamba?
BassTractor replied to BassTractor's topic in EUB and Double Bass
here is a clip of Dutch bass player using an electric model
Thanks, BassBus! Tony Overwater. Great name for a bass player too. -
Drummers, eh? What did I say?!?
Don't wanna be a bore 'n' all, but strictly speaking, in a scientific sense that is, we don't have drummers for sentence building. We have them because they're the most fun to be around with for the rest of the day, when we do not add music to their rhythm. We indulge while making music so we can take a beer with them afterwards, or, as I may have relayed here earlier, to climb the walls of the college building to borrow some instruments from the loft so as to provide free concerts to the general public at 3 AM before daybreak in the early morning while it's dark outside.

Hi Jamie, A belated welcome to you then! As to you not being a bassist, I think that - as an experienced pedagogue - I can help you: After you've figured out where you need to put your fingers to get the right sounds, then do exactly that. Instant bassist! Glad to be of help. Enjoy the forum!
