How do you know I´ve got a Silvertone?! lol It´s just like this one http://silvertonegui...d-body-60s/5180
Cool bass! No, I didn't know at all. Just had a wild guess after reading:
I dig vintage gear that´s why I have a couple (make that 5 70´s fenders), 2 80´s Stingrays and a 67 Silvertone
I also guess you have an SVT from the seventies. How did I do?
Maybe I'll even reveal my ulterior motive behind my question is a few days!
Well, someone did write that you're just nosey and curious, so ...

Eight years or so before there was a real band rather than bands made for specific occasions. My first real band was mainly for accompanying the youth choir in church, but we had a blast and it gave us much needed experience. Ultra cool to put electric and electronic instruments into the church room. Drums even! This was not exactly the norm back then in '71 or thereabouts. Lots of trouble before that got sorted out. It gave me the confidence that I could do it, and I'm happy for the experience.

Gigs, GAS and a reminder that we are all individuals ......

LC? Hm. I'd rather see Debs' face as she leaves the premises with the fretless. Must've needed a zipper to get that head remounted. Great story! -
Got my Bongo 4HH today.
Congrats, Cloudburst! I'm sure you'll enjoy more and more. OMG indeed.
I keep dreaming of running a Bongo 6HH Stealth into an Orange Bass Terror 1000 and Barefaced Super 12
Sorry, Liam, but you've got no clue whatsoever, and I can prove it: that's almost exactly my dream as well (Bongo in Tangerine Pearl though).
Mine is going to stand out like crazy as well (all Bongo's should!)
All Bongos should! +1
Tangerine Pearl/Black Plate/5 HH
... or even with the white plate. Uneffingbelievable! That said, they should offer a certain shade of grey plate to go with the Tangerine as well. It would look otherworldish.
Wood is good, concrete is f***ing stupid. The whole argument/debate is f***ing stupid. Believe what you want and be happy.
Are you being serious? I for one find the thread fascinating. IMNSHO, wood can be good, but it can be stupid as well. Concrete can never be stupid, as it provides a virtually non-vibrating environment and thus by definition is interesting, if only for purposes of comparison or research. The whole argument/debate is not stupid, but very interesting IMNSHO. The stupid enters it when people believe on authority or prejudice instead of hard evidence. I haven't yet read the whole thread, but up to now I find I've read many interesting views inbetween the prejudiced ones, so I'd like this thread to go on please.

Dunnit.

Hi Joel, Just wanna welcome you and say I'm very impressed with your introduction and responses. If I had been in The Queen's Own Country, I'd subscribe immediately. (Impressed with BC's input as well, btw.) All the best with your new job, and please stay on BC!

Young Bass Player Gone Missing at the Stone Roses, Heaton Pk.

Worrying indeed. Very worrying. One can only hope at least he made his own decisions, and will turn up again. My kids are almost that age. That makes it even stronger. There's no news yet? -
Mentioned this before, I think, but I hope it bears repeating: Eyal Amir, Jordan Rudess and Tammy Scheffer did a great vocals/iPad version of Moves Like Jagger:

Hi Joseph, Welcome to BC. Just keep reading, and the info will flow your way. At the top of the page there's always a search function as well where you can change where it must search for you. Handy. Then there's a friendly and willing crowd here, but they should be your last option. They induce Gear Acquisition Syndrome, and will cost you a lot of money. Careful with this crowd!

Hi Mike, Welcome back! Hope things work out better this time.
I keep reading about flat wound strings. Are they better, and do they make a difference in the sound of the bass? Why do people prefer them?
Hi Mike, First, you'd get more and better response on another forum, like "General Discussion" or preferably the "Miscellaneous Equipment and Accessories" forum which is specifically for strings, a.o. Also, one is asked to do a forum search before asking basic questions, as the pros will get fed up with answering the same stuff again and again. I know everybody sins against this though. That said, in my noob experience, flatwounds have a rounded, warmer tone. AFAIK they're less flexible in tone as well. They live forever. String change twice a year? Forget it. Some people have them on for decades. I have played them a long time ago, and can find one drawback: use them for too long, and roundwounds will feel harsh on the fingers afterwards.

Hi Alex, Welcome to BC! Yes, do learn here, and please also share your wisdom of 21 years. We need a picture of your Silvertone, or else it will forever stand as being this '67 Silvertone: Now you wouldn't want that, would you? Enjoy the site!

Hi DT, Here's a simple fractal for you then: Welcome to BC: [(Welcome to BC) * 0.99999] Yes, do build that bass, and keep us updated on it. It's cool stuff. Enjoy the site!

If you can afford it, do it. Fifty years from now, you'll be sorry if you didn't. As to the title question: I only give in to GAS on the 21st of every month, the day after the money comes in. This is called discipline. ;^)

Wow! Great story, Shelly, and an inspiration as well. Best of luck, and HAVE FUN!
Do the top players and jazz players in particular already have a strong idea of what note will ring out wherever they are on the fretboard? [...] Will it be something that will come in time and loads of practice?
Yes and no. In general they are good at this, but it also depends on the player. You put this "predicting tones" in the context of improv. Many things can be said about this - for example: - Many jazz soloists practise for years on all types of standard licks in all kinds of keys and styles, if only to have something to fall back on when getting trouble during an improv. As a listener one can often hear the sudden change from song related beauty into some weak tones and then suddenly some standard licks. - In a lot of improv, the player would not as much decide on the next tone, or even have time to "predict" it, but would just play those series of tones or arrays of finger positions that years of practice have taught him/her will do well. The player would probably (but not always) know what's coming though. Hm. I wonder if that is clear enough. Tell me if it doesn't come across. You made one cool thread, bro!

Hi Andy, Welcome! Old? I hope not! Lotsa folks here hope not. Me for example, I started little more than half a year ago, at age 55. You'll do alright. :^) So, your wife gives you this luverly bass, and then you dare mention Esperanza? You've got some bollocks, my friend. Respect. ;^) Me, I'm inspired by Tal. Enjoy!

Hi Steve, Welcome to BC! Looks like the tone's already set, and it's a good tone. FWIW, I hear that the RockBasses are bloody great - starting when the "W" was incorporated in the headstock last year - and in fact give the German ones a run for their money. Enjoy the fora!

Hi LesDong, Welcome to BC. That bass is in high regard on these forums. Good luck from another newbie! Enjoy!
