I, to my shame, have a load of kit, all seemingly made in China. It all worked faultlessly from initial switch on, and continues so to do....my 'orribly expensive British-made kit on the other hand....one amp has been with my tech for months, and the others are waiting their turn....it's a bit like owning an Aston, you get a nice warm glow out of the visuals, but you have to put up with the grief and that cold chill in your wallet...............

I lived around there for about thirty years - it was, like many other Wycombe boozers, locally regarded as a bit of a hole. Went in to see the landlord once and 'admired' the somewhat rough stripper on what passed for a stage. Never heard anything totally bad about the place....just make sure you get paid (?). I gigged a bit at the Nags Head, Wycombe, that had a bit of a rep, but I never had any issues...the town ain't that hard, but then I've done Edmonton, Chislehurst and Wealdstone (yes I know The Who started there...please shut up about it....bored now), as well as Spitalfields All-Star, so p'raps I find the Hoom Counties a bit tame........

I've got Matamp(s) and Crown - if weight is a problem, go for a Crown class D............simple choice for me, the Crown is the Gig Machine, the Matamps are my 'show off' amps............

Glad to hear that the shop finally stepped up to the plate - its their problem, not yours, and they will now talk it through with Laney. I get problems sometimes with kit that I sell, and we never bounce it off as 'not us guv'. Our main supplier is solid gold about things that go wrong, and I never have a problem. Result- customers that come back (& bring their friends!).

Good to hear the police are actually taking an interest - the last time I had a problem (which involved criminal fraud and a lot of money) all I got was 'shrug'. The bank will only deal with the police, then perhaps only with a warrant. I hope you get a result.

I know it's not the same cab, but I'm currently playing around with a couple of Barefaced Dubsters and a 300 Ormat - top end to another Ormat and some Mackies - the results are simply frightening! 'Newbie' has offered you a dem - suggest you take him up on his kind offer?

the answer lies in two words - Amp Tech - if you don't have one, find one - I've a great guy who takes forever, but he's a busy man...if you aint that technical, you need someone on side who is...it'll save you a nervous breakdown, trust me!

OP has written to Laney (post three) - seems to have been ignored....personally I'd fly a Recorded Delivery letter before moving this on.....I once had all the joy of threatening to send the Receivers in to Ford at Dagenham - that got results!

For my sins, I'm in retail (not amps, btw) - I can't see an issue with returning the amp if it's gone wrong again and exchanging for another of similar (i.e. greater) value. It hasn't gone wrong (yet) this time, you just don't want it back -I can see why you don't want it back, but this, in the trade, is called 'retail regret' and is not a valid reason for refusing to accept the repair. Sorry, but that's the way it is......I would try a conversation with the retailer about an exchange.....if it goes wrong yet again, I would talk to Trading Standards and consider a small claims court action against the retailer....that usually promotes fairly quick results......

I'd get an amp tech to look at them - if you have a cooling fan running at full chat, suggests an internal clean might be an idea?

mmm-grew up wIth the Marquee (Wardour Street) when one D Bowie was dossing in an ambulance in the mews at the back.....Everything changes...what I thought 'really neat' when I was 17 (meat pie chips & beans at the Ace on Friday night) is merely a memory of something gone... Things move on...things that are 'liked' by the Modern Generation' (like we were forty years ago...) are their memories of 'back in the day'..no-ones right or wrong here - its the march of time - if I want to live in the past I can play my Dennis Brown at OBSCENE volume.....If they flatten the lot, it will eventually re-emerge elsewhere, because if there's a real need, it does...... .

Barefaced have gone off 15s - why I don't know - I've used 15s for bass (& Mid...Tannoy HPD15, back in the day) for ever - used to buy bathroom-type handles for the cabs (from Isaac Lord, High Wycombe, if you care...) - I don't believe that you can shove ball-crunching bass (pardon to any maiden aunts out there) through itsy-bitsy 10" or 12" drivers, esp if you use original Ormat amps or similar....look around for some Barefaced 'original' 15s - they really move air........

I'm thinking that this problem seems to arise a fair bit in 'our' industry. I'm not about to name-call, but in the recent past I've had dealings with a pro-audio amp company, a loudspeaker manufacturing outfit and an audio-engineering company, all of whom have been small to medium in size, and all of whom have been less than wonderful at doing what they say they would on time. At the other end of the scale, the current day-job involves dealing with one of the largest names in the world, which seems to consist of a multitude of Departments, none of whom know the meaning of 'communication'. (sigh)

Umm - at risk of continuing the Roqsolid appreciation thread, they made me a perfect fit for my non-standard Matamp in about three days - would not hesitate to recommend them - you get what you pay for (and they look good!).

And then there was (were?) Stock, Aitken and Waterman - now there was incisive political comment and social interaction if ever there was.........

So, back in the day....Klooks Kleek (Railway Hotel, W. Hampstead) - Refectory (Golders Green) - Railway Hotel (Wealdstone)- Taggs Island (London/Surrey) - Cellar Club (Kingston - ok, it wasn't a pub, but a bloody good music venue) - Star & Garter (Windsor - the original Ricky Tik) - music was harder to find then, we valued it more; outside of Caroline/Radio London and the local juke box (anyone remember the one in the metal cage at the Ace cafe?), music was hard(ish) to find. So, around 1965(ish) I used to chuck Chris Squire in the back of my minivan and take him (& the band kit) complaining loudly, all the way from his home in Kingsbury to the Graveyard venue opposite North Harrow Bowl (after they quit the St Andrews church hall venue). The band then was The Syn, changed to the Selfs- I have a good memory of Chris screaming 'Heatwave' into the mic at the Harrow TA centre- around this time, Joanne (his mother) played me a studio dem of the 'new band' (Yes) - must admit it wasn't my thing.....the last time I saw Chris was when he and various members of his entourage tried to ponce entry into a Geno Washington gig that I was promoting. I figured that he was (then) worth the odd mil, so I offered them reduced rates, seeing I had expenses to meet - the response was less than charitable, and that was that..............

Gigged at the Refectory, Golders Green with John Mayall, -Bruce and Clapton were in Bluesbreakers for that time (Worlds best scratch band?) Was working the Blue Moon Hayes for one of Creams first gigs - very loud - very busy night. Eddie Norman (promoter) looked happy.....
