  1. Yup That's how it's worked with every stereo jack that I've been involved with.
  2. Another one gone.....it's been a rough few weeks.....rest in peace darling.
  3. I'm in South Devon......we lost Broadband totally on Christmas Eve for about four hours - called BT helpline & the nice gentlemen explained in a perfect Indian/English voice that 'they' had major problems down here...seems to be ok now, but I'm leaving the business card acceptor on 'dial-up' for the time being....bb has been odd for a few weeks now (slow, not connecting, not there..). So it's not just Cornwall.......
  4. Thanks ped - I wondered if it was linked to the BBC problem (which is still not fully sorted) - someone 'out there' means business..........
  5. The harsh reality is that as we grow older, so do our peers and our heroes, it's the 'letting go' that is so hard sometimes - I used Free Nelson Mandela as a juke box/sound system test track for years..........
  6. Strange, If I'd been Warwick & seen this on a bass thread, my response would have been jet-propelled....nice to be so big that you can simply shrug and ignore this type of publicity............
  7. I do get the feeling (post 94) that Dad may be suggesting that this thread might be wearing out it's welcome?
  8. Stax every time - it had far more oomph - Motown was the Beatles, Stax was the Stones, as far as I was concerned (and I grew up in that era).
  9. Just to refocus - Chris Squire, who I knew personally, came from a fairly ordinary family & lived in a semi as a child, dad drove a London cab & mum kept house (& made a nifty line in kipper ties for a while). Jon Anderson grew up in Accrington and started his working life in a series of menial jobs..........
  10. Without wishing to diss anyone, but Phil Collins was born in Hounslow, an area not renowned for 'pit' activity............. Also did drama school ....ditto........
  11. I recall the 'birth' of Punk, and some band (I forget who) was presented on tv as a bunch of kids who had just got together..... ....complete with a full/new Marshall backline? Someone was trying it on.... The working class thing is largely a myth to hype the band to the 'majority' - It never did TwoTone bands any harm...........
  12. I found a way of keeping my missus extremely happy - I left.........
  13. Wonky - it's the week before Christmas, it's raining, and we're bored - be fair, we need the entertainment......
  14. £I stuck to the head ?- wow - that's really upmarket.......
  15. These look very much the same as used by Barefaced on their Dubster..ask Alex?
  16. .....and a 50p piece stuck over the headshell with blu-tak? During a very hectic season back in the day, a somewhat shy bloke from the band that had just finished came over and said ' excuse me, but are you professional?' I answered yes, and he responded with 'I thought so, most of your plugs seem to be held together with tape' - I grinned as he stammered on 'only real guys use their gear that much'...........
  17. Umm...there's not much to be said for hefting two or three cabin trunks full of vinyl in to a Christmas gig, and then having the bloody stuff jump & clank its way through 'Come on Eileen' as a couple of dozen drunks leap around in front of the decks....trust me, I've done it (not lately...). Vinyl has a place, it can work in static club situations and at home, but it is a really bad idea as a normal (mobile) gig tool.
  18. Um...is this available with a switch at the same price? I've always used Shure, but I like the look of this......... edit vvvv Thanks !
  19. If you want to compare harmonies, listen to the Who playing surfer music, they are pretty unreal......
  20. Ah the Glitterati of Henley at their best - dancing to Beach Boy(ish) safe rock...... Just like the moribund Henley Regatta mob of today - I looked up Medneham Abbey (I used to live nearby)...It was a failed hotel, back in the day. The village pub (Dog & Badger) had gone bust last time I went through.... The Manor used to get it's feet wet (it's by the river) Load of twaddle about 18c prostitutes & the like Which brings us back quite neatly to the 'hoose' band (Twaddle that is, not prossies) IMO terms & conditions apply........
  21. TDW (#13)....I recall that Bose did something similar in the 80's...a lot of little (5"?) speakers in a box on a pole, with a controller. Someone help me out here-I can't recall what the thing was called?
  22. Junior Walker & the Allstars at the California, Dunstable. - I paid (unusual for me) for the girlfriend and me to go in, and left after the first number, it was all unbelievably bad. On the same subject, I watched half the audience walk out of the Talk of the Town when Stevie Wonder managed to be complete & utter sh*te - it happens..........
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfz-fJdtAR0 Penny for your song....apposite?
  24. So, in the absence of a reply to my earlier post (#15) - I would suggest that you look for an early OrangeMatamp?
