  1. I'm thinking that something like a Crown !k Drivecore XLS class D might be worth a thought...as someone said previously, get it from someone who will accept returns.
  2. I've had to leave bags at wholesale suppliers receptions for years...it's an accepted practice, not an insult....just sayin'.....
  3. Umm..stand by for Alex & Bill...? There are so many variables...venue size....audience numbers....speaker placement.....rms vs required headroom......any jobsworth speaker should do ok in a limited space, it's the long-term practical 'useability' that often strangles this idea at birth for many......
  4. Do yourself a huge favour - get their setlist .... assuming that you know a couple of their numbers, it will make your life so much simpler, and for a first gig, mental comfort is all........
  5. Try Jeff at Matamp? They are at Meltham, and nice guys to deal with........
  6. Oxidisation on joints can/will cause a resistance problem. I used to service pin tables, and the first step in problem solving was to remove all the power supply fuses, clean the holders & replace with new fuses. Amazing how many problems simply vanished.....

Its surface is highly polished and treated before a precision Dual Mono-Filament wrap is applied. A precision FEP tube is then extruded over each conductor. The ten FEP tubes are then bonded with a proprietary technique to create a tubular interconnect cable, enclosed in two layers of silver shielding. 8. I seem to recall that one of the (stated) reasons for the split between Orange and Mat Mathias (Matamp) was that Mats stuff was too clean........
  9. Add up your likely load & build in at least another 50%.....you need something quiet, which rules out most 'domestic' hire companies.
  10. I had a pair of Orange 4x12s (Celestion Greenbacks)......& a couple of Orange 200 Matamps ( sob)
  11. If you click onto the media coverage link, there is an interesting page from a June 2015 Somerset paper, where a teenage hopeful is 'already in the top 25, and trying for the £100,000 prize' ....something about diminishing returns?
  12. Surely music, at the end of the day, is about 'stuff' that fulfils audience expectations? I don't have a problem with a covers band, a jazz-funk outfit, a dj doing 'scratch & sniff'. or me delivering a soul & reggae sound system set (which I've done since the sixties), providing the place is filled with peeps having a good time......job done.
  13. Not totally off-topic....I used to dj for Eddie Norman, who ran Peggottys at St Ives, I called in around 1969, nice place...gone now.......
  14. ......Simply delightful...... Thanks for posting, Jenny !
  15. Did a wedding gig back in the 70's where the best man pleaded with us not to play 'Shotgun Wedding'.... ...enter the bride, and we realised why........ .
  16. mmm...it depends on who 'owns' the name....if it's part of the Squire 'estate' .... it can be sold/licensed/rented out...whatever. There is (imo) still financial mileage, esp in the US, no-one is going to walk away from that...it's a business after all.. Harsh but true.
  17. Just a bump - ordered a new cover from Roqsolid the other week, it came in five working days - had a problem with handle covers - phoned & spoke to Bryn - 'send it back' - did, and was phoned by Lee, very concerned that they got it right - arrived back three days later, absolutely perfect, so, great product, great customer service, great attitude, all for forty-odd quid............
  18. Just had a package (large-ish) delivered by Interlink - looked fine, opened it and found it had fairly obviously been heavily straight dropped on to something solid (concrete floor?)-the internals were a wreck. (Packaging was adequate, btw). Think I'll specify UPS in future - I did this with another supplier last year, and I've never had a serious problem.
  19. Many years ago, I used to get landed with Thame Social Club (it's ok, it's long gone) - was a sort of alleyway converted into a club with a bar & a small stage, never got above 20 or 30 punters. On said stage was a Marshall double bass stack, so I hooked an amp out into that, along with the 4x12 cols that I was using. I took a break after an hour or so and the bloke on the door informed me that they'd had several phone calls about the noise travelling through the neighbourhood, and that unless I was careful we wouldn't get another booking. I replied something on the lines of 'thanks, I wondered what it would take' - his face was an absolute picture......
  20. I ran 1k+ kit for years & if you treated the sub as an afterthought somewhere 'over there' - It didn't happen. Admittedly, I'm a sound system not a band, so that might make a difference.....(?)
  21. I ran a pair of the 'revolutionary' Celestion SR1, plus subs for a few years.....don't think the spec was that different (subs were heavier, obv) tops were 2x10 in a plastic moulded cabs at 28lbs each - I think. After about two hours the mid-range seriously hurt. I hope Alex has done a lot of actual listening tests here, I wish him well, if he's got it right,it's a fabulous concept.
  22. I've had the odd issue with attempted non-payment, best one was at a very swish golf club where my ex had to corner the booker in the Ladies loo - He promised to put a cheque through the next day - did too, but only because I'd gigged in the same social set for years & his name would have stunk....in answer to the above (just posted) - promoter would have a perfect right to sue if you incur them in a loss of income....I've been on both sides, as a promoter, I've never bothered, it's too much bother..........
  23. It's not about 'representing our music' it's about entertainment, per Se. Many years ago I was driving a cab and one passenger was a musical director for the Beeb he told me he wrote Boom Bang a Bang expressly for Lulu to win Eurovision - which it did. I don't dislike this one, it's very retro, a la Mitford/Cliveden (look it up) ...might yet be in with a chance........
  24. Nah - it's 'Rock meets Chic' (ok, but it don't float my boat)
  25. Yup, had this stuff with the Bay, eight hours before one item ended, had some w...er ask for detail pics, taken/sent - never heard from again...(sigh) fortunately item sold to a 'proper' customer....cheques in the post, btw...........
