1. I tried to use the GR-55 with my bass: once you find the right pickup setup it works well with most sounds but not well enough for me to use it live. as the others have mentioned you really have to watch your playing technique and in the lower register (A on e-string to low the tracking latency is too much. BUT if you only use midi sounds without mixing them with the original signal you will get along. I stopped experimenting with this setup because the mixing of synth sounds and the original bass sound doesn't work too well with most sounds and it is more easy for me to work with chords on guitar plus the bass sounds (synth and emulated) of the gr55 sound really good through a bass amp. since I also play guitar I'm just working on an originals project with a drummer where I'll mix sounds and use a bass amp for the synth and a guitaramp with fx for guitar through a stereo jamman. didn't try it live with the drummer (should happen within the next weeks) yet but I believe it'll work out fine since I really enjoy the endless possibilities and fantastic soundscapes when jammin' at home.

6. I also believe that it is more about how and what you play in an acoustic set, not the instrument itself. personally I can't play double bass what I'd prefer to use in an acoustic set, so I got myself a cheap old eko B4 fretless acoustic bass and fitted a piezo under the bridge because it is a similar bridge construction as a double bass: the resulting sound is awesome and very close to a double bass, but of course you still need an amp plus a suitable preamp for the piezo like the l.r. baggs para di..

9. I was very tempted, but I just bought an older black one with pickguard and all maple neck in the states. this is a real bargain and a fantastic bass. go and grab it someone.
10. the kemper is great for both bass and guitar, but well, if you don't need an amp for band rehearsals in the studio, I'd also suggest a decent preamp preferably with tubes. these start used around 500€ (alembic. ampeg, etc.) if you want something great go the custom route like I did: or get a demeter. usually miking a bassamp/cab is much more difficult to handle for a beginner in basstonerecording
11. for my next fretted pj bass, I'll probably choose again the nordstrand p with a nordstrand big split at the bridge as I already have them in my guild pilot fretless. love the tones that they deliver.
12. +1 for a badass that will "tighten" up the sound a bit. set the strings low and a preamp with high treble and low boost, in addidtion to the already mentioned I 'd also suggest an audere or aquilar preamp. edit: and also cocco steels might be a good string choice.
13. not to forget the guild pilot basses...
14. classic. I like it, a really great combination.
15. congrats, what a gorgeous instrument!
