1. I was lucky, I didn't buy/sell excessively but now am absolutely happy with what I have. So enough time to focus on the music!
2. I have one and it's a keeper, even if I hardly use it. works very well with very little to zero noise on bass and guitar and once you've found "your" setting with the pins it's difficult to get a bad compression out of it. THE feature is the parallel compresion blend which I usually leave on 40% wet to just fatten up my sound a bit without losing the original dynamics.
3. bluejay, yep you're right there are different degrees. my main hand is the left one. I use a spoon, draw, play Tennis/table tennis/darts, etc. with the left hand automatically. But I never had a problem learning to write with the right hand or play bass and guitar righthanded (all my decision). edit: and I know quite a few musos that do it this way, too.
4. I tried both ways with an old acoustic guitar and also changed strings. but as a lefty I chose to play righthanded because it felt more comfortable and did make more sens to me.
5.
...should learn right handed guitar because it actually made more sense to do the complicated stuff with your dominant hand...
this doesn't sound bollocks to me, because as a lefty this exactly is the reason why I did it after trying both ways when I started in 1982. I never looked back.
6. Had the pleasure to make a good deal for an Epifani Footswitch I was looking for with Paul. A true gent to deal with, can only recommend him. Thank you Paul.
7. For me a great gig is the essence of what I wanted to do when I started playing in 1982. over the years bad experiences didn't change this but helped me to play more great gigs you need great people around you to achieve this and if you find them, try to keep this company and you might get even more great gigs. I love studiowork, too. but nothing can beat the energy at a great gig!
8.
I'm just chilling too with a shot of Drambuie having just got in from my gig too. Function room in a gastro pub. Good turnout, not a spare seat and lots standing. The odd wobble during the set but nothing major. Landlord delighted though and upped our fee and wants us back later in the year, so a result I reckon!! He'd already thrown in free food and drink!! I'm liking this landlord We'd tried out some new lighting effects and they worked a treat! Had a load of fun
I like!
9. well, just got back home. simply had a great gig as a dep. italian oldies -definately not my usual style- with an italian singer/songwriter/guitarist and band in an high class italian restaurant as sideact during a 5-course-meal and then showact at the after meal party. top food, top wines (just enjoing a fantastic 2010 Prunotto from Piemont). we had a short rehearsal at 12am after the last gig in august 2013. different drummer and saxophone player, both top notch. improvised a lot during the meal and nailed the songs very well to get the crowd dancing during the "party-set". played my cheap '81 eko acoustic fretless through my l.r. baggs para d.i. into my acoustic image focus sa through my SAD 1/12H cab. sounded great outside, but as usual just ok on stage if you have no monitoring and the pa is only for vocals, acoustic guitar, sax and cajon. but I did the job well, got paid and enjoy myself right now! life can be good! Cheers!
10. thanks for sharing guys. I also just explored their music in the last 2 years and really love the band. they have released some fantastic stuff over the years.
11. all good advice, but my question would be what preamp do you intend to use?
12. the strange thing with "growing up" is that I can't say I reached the aim...
13. life is waves in repetition. sometimes you ride the tube, sometimes you don't. there are some basses that can help you to play what you need, but it will aways be the instrument, not the brand in YOUR hands...
14.
Yes I recognise this. There are a package of issues going on when playing live, such as Ironside1966 points out, also when playing live people put more into their instrument, drummers get busier, keyboard players and guitarists occupy all conceivable free space then the vocal monitors are turned up and your onstage bass sound has little chance. Make sure that you're going pre eq into the desk and boost the mids until you can hear yourself and have a word with the soundman to see if he can offer you a monitor.
THIS.
15. music is not just a hobby. it is passion and devotion if you feel that you have to do it. if not do something that will really enrich your life!
16. sorry to hear it's the last gig for you nige, but enjoy! there will be something great around the next corner!
17. very well played. the band is a bit static for my taste, but that is my taste. regarding the sound, since I'm no fan of all other mb amps except the tte500 I'd recommend to try a different rig, after you have tried yours with a 4x10". if you double the number of speakers you will gain 3db but also get a bigger feel at the same volume. you really have to try some cabs and amps on your own. maybe a very clean amp like a glockenklang or epifani or GB shuttle might be your direction to try out since I always found the other markbass amps kind of muddy....
18. depped in the classic rock houseband of the Zwick St. Pauli @ Reeperbahn, Hamburg/Germany on fr and sat. friday also was the 1st (public) rehearsal but all went really well and we all had lots of fun and got paid, too.
19. hmm, for me it is everything from the late 70ies when I started to really listen to music until today. I'm still growing up, you know but even if I have a wide variety most influences came from ac/dc, prince, incognito, david sanborn, miles davis, allen holdsworth and quite a few others...
Very nice, never heard of the Koch pedal before but it looks very interesting from the information I've found.
I love it, have 2 of them. with it it almost doesn't matter what amp comes after it to get my sound.
21. I have the Roland R-05 for a few years now and it has never disappointed me. long battery life, decent recording quality.
