2.
Oh to hell with it, in for a penny, in for a pound I'm still rather pleased with this old thing I mixed for Kit Richardson, I didnt get to track a bit of it, so there was plenty of twisting things to my will all the way through, I think it sounds pretty splendid as mixes go, it could be a little better in a couple of places, but you can always think in retrospects of changes you might make to improve something:- http://kitrichardson...bmission-chords Entirely mixed in the box, soundcard is an RME UCX, plenty of different listening systems from floorstanding monitors to mobile phones and reference cans to cheap earbuds. There is absolutely masses going on in some of these tracks, but the point is you can't hear all of it in one listen. Do enjoy! Bear in mind though, if you aren't listening on £100,000 worth of monitoring kit, it shoudl still sound bloody fantastic.....
yep, well done. sounds great!
 3. this is me on my seibass jazz 5 through an ampeg rockerbass 100r combo jamming some latin stuff at a jamsession. the video was recorded only with my nokia lumia 1020 - no additional sound editing:
 4.
Just made this video recently as I've kind of rediscovered the joys of my Sei Jazz - still want a 6 string but this baby is still kicking ass 5 years after I had it made for me
nice.
 5. well, my experience is that bass doesn't work well in a stereo setup, because usually you can't define where it comes from. also a stereo setup might only help you on stage but for a regular gig almost nobody in the audience will be able to experience a "hifi-diamond" sound experience. this is why most of the signals should be double mono there. if you like stereo fx then use a decent bassamp for the direct bass signal and a stereo amp for the gr-55. and please send me some presets that really work in the mix with the original clean bass signal.
 6. I would not even join a band with a bad drummer. I can't stand timing issues.
 7.
Compression is very misunderstood I wrote this a while ago to help people set up a compressor for bass:- http://web.archive.o...p-a-compressor/ I use compression live, low ratio very low threshold to just increase the fatness a touch, and to sculpt the transients if I'm slapping. FOH would be great, except I don't trust most live sound people with a bass tone. Mixing I use all sorts of tools to improve everything, but compression and eq are the cornerstone of good mixing.
this, and I use the Xotic SP Compressor because it is a parallel compressor that just ads a little more presence and fatness to the dry signal. this works great to give the bass more definition especially at lower volumes on small gigs without a regular FOH.
 8.
"There are quite a few covers I personally like, or prefer to the original artist recording, however that does not make them better. The cover is different and we may personally like it more than the original but that's where it ends." Blue
well, if you like it better, it's better --- for you. nothing more.

eva still is better:
 11.
Covers better than the original That's the title of this thread.
well, since you seem to know it, please enlighten me.
 12.
Which 'original' version are you comparing that with?
I don't know, but this version touches me the most of the ones I know.

 14. well. terrible guitar sound. thinkabout shouter. drums and bass have to melt together somewhen... better than just drinking in a pub, ey?
 15. just got back from a great gig with the bluesband. small pub with great crowd, great bose pa, great landlord. got fed well, free drinks (great if they serve guinnes and you don't have to drive ) and the punters filled our hat 3-times which gave us double the amount we had expected. so, happy end for everyone!
 16. congrats and welcome to the guild family!
 17.
Just got my 1961 Gibson Melody Maker back from Martin at the Bass Gallery. He routed a neck pickup in, new wiring, side jack fitted, sanded the back of the neck to satin, and a full setup. It plays and sounds golden. Wonderful instrument.
lovely.
 18. Richard, thanks a lot for your insight that you share with us. And thank you for the many smiles you put on my face with your work.

 21.
Some recent vids:...
very, very nice. here is me slaughtering some improvised tunes at a jamsession in july:
 22. soon available: GP Lightstone Emperor I have the former Twister Preamp and ist is fantastic for giving Tube-Dirt to a clean amp or DI-recording or as a complete 2-channel Preamp with a separate Power-amp. I use it for all three and love it, but the Emperor should be even better.
 23. no, you're not alone. I love my gear and don't have gas for anything, esp. since I don't know anything that will make me be a better musician. but I also own an ultralite rig.
