  1. And I’ve just included shipping cost in UK. But that’s as low as I go before I take it off the market.
  2. HJ, the Kolstein will rattle if the Schaller mag pickup is left unplugged. Other than that I don’t remember any other rattles.
  3. For double bass. Surprised nobody’s mentioned the EA Wizzy 110. For a ten inch there’s very few lighter cabs and it’s got some very useful mid range that can be eq’d back if necessary. I never liked the BF One 10 for DB as it was too dark for my Lifeline pickup. And I never got on with the small PJB cabs; not enough elasticity if you get my drift. But the Wizzy which I’ve had for at least 15 years is a keeper.
  4. I’ve just sold a preamp to Mark. Haven’t sent it off until tomorrow but the money’s already in my PayPal. Just the right guy to deal with.
  5. Yes, it was like that for the MJQ at the Royal Festival Hall. Large venues for small groups without massive sound reinforcement are a big mistake. Now, the Count Basie Orchestra at the (then) Hammersmith Odeon; that was something altogether different. And I have been to concerts recently too, honest.
  6. Isn’t that the good bit about being a bass player? You don’t have to be precise and repeatable each time. ‘Specially if you’re playing jazz ha ha.
  7. Most session musicians are very good at what they do. They can read flyshot off the page and, er, that’s it.
  8. I’ve got one like HJ’s folding trolley. Came from Maplin back in the day. Takes up very little room in the motor and, with a bungee, can work as a double bass trolley. ’Course, the best solution is to have lightweight gear.
  9. Is it a serious dent? If not too bad you could simply match the colour with a furniture repair stick - a waxy crayony thing. That would reduce the obvious ding. You’ll be bound to find a few knocks here and there in a bass’s life.
  10. Actually two Martins. Both very nice but my Bryant’s the one now.
  11. You’ve probably had enough of how old I am. But just to say I hope I’ve got one or two more gigs left in me. I’ve got two in the diary and our weekly residency will resume again soon. And I can do a two hour gig no trouble at all. But the trouble is that, even looking back ten years ago, I look so bloody old. It’s embarrassing to me and it must be embarrassing to the band. So I’ve got most of my kit up for sale, I’ll just keep a bass and an amp- in case. And I’m taking BA55 ACE off the car. It’s irrelevant Sob
  12. This is an essential weapon in any double bass player’s armoury. It is a high pass filter that allows those strong bottom notes but takes the boom away. It also has a phase reverse switch to help control feedback. This is the Mk 3 version and runs from internal battery or external power supply - I always used the latter. These are not easy to find in the UK. £120 including postage.
  13. I’m having a really serious clearout of my DB stuff. But my Bryant is a keeper. These basses have something special about them and a Bryant owner will have a piece of magic. GLWTS
  14. Anything by Spooky Tooth or...Robert Implant?
  15. You are my Dentistry or...Dentistry’s Child?
  16. Just to remind you that I have a Genz Benz combo listed in the Amps and Cabs For Sale section. This works very well with DB and is very portable in its own carry bag. I have used it a lot with a whole succession of basses and can really recommend it. I’ve recently reduced to a crazy price to clear the house.
  17. Three of us lived in a flat in Cheltenham a long time ago. We had quite a successful band, a six piece playing Trad because it was what people wanted to hear. But we were modernists at heart at an exciting time when Adderley was in his pomp and Miles and Coltrane were the coming men. We also enjoyed and discussed classical music and the radio was on all day tuned to the pop stations and the pirates. So nothing was ruled out and I’m sure it made me a better musician if not a better person. Others to judge, of course.
  18. Hi Dave Yes I took a pic this morning but didn’t send it somehow. There it is above. You can see how compact it is for a twelve, with the Clarus to give it some scale. Roger
  19. I wear incontinence pants for Trad.
