1. I would guess that the output transistors had gone down putting DC voltage straight through to the speakers.
2. I would have thought that all the cabs would use the same drivers so why not just use the 2, 1x10s with both amps? Easy to check, just whip the speakers out and have a look.
3. I've done that before and it worked like a chocolate covered peanut, that's a treat.
4. Some info about F.A.L. here, http://www.karillon.com/fal.html and here, http://forum.speakerplans.com/stuff-from-the-early-days-roger-squires_topic28079.html and an advert here, http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/adDetails/235
5. You could try these, http://www.allparts.uk.com/products/hofner-style-bass-pickup-chrome-cover-11k-ohms
6. My all time fave band is Deep Purple and the Who. I know that makes two but I never can choose.
7. That's a relief, I thought this thread had fizzled out as no new posts when I went to zeds last night.
8. Don't need a spare do you?
9. I've never heard of it either but a quick google search produced this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korg_Kaossilator https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeQOuNBuJwg
10. I haven't tried the Kent Armstrong Lipstick pickups but I did put a pair of Danelectro lipsticks on my Jazz inspired bass and was totally underwhelmed by the result.
11. I found this as well and when I voiced my opinion that I didn't think that the ST900 was that loud I was classed as some sort of looney. I brought the bass down a bit and turned the mids up a bit, not a lot though and found that I liked the sound a lot and the peak light stayed off. It's loud enough for me for any gig I'm likely to play and if it needs to be louder I'll just DI through the P.A. That also means that everything else would need micing as well. Also, don't forget that a 900 watt amp is just a tad short of only being twice as loud as a 100w amp. I'm not going to mention the valve watts verses transistor watts debate.
12. My blue leds go out on occasion as well but seem to repair themselves within a gig or two. I'm happy with that.
13.
Are people who bought the 69'er not a bit miffed that it's been side-lined so soon?
It's like virtually everything, things get updated and specs changed, normally just after you've bought it. New car, hifi, Apple product, amp, cab, guitar or bass. Am I miffed, not at all. At last night's, exceptionally boring gig, I stood on stage and thought, can my sound get any better than this? I wandered out into the vast expanse of nothingness that was the dance floor and leaned on the bar and just listened and still thought, can my sound get any better than this? Infact, the whole band sounded superb, shame no one was paying attention but it was a birthday party and the birthday boy really enjoyed it, so it's OK. I'm in sonic heaven with my Streamliner and 69er and who's to say that the 'new improved' 69er will sound as good? I don't think that I will be paying another grand to find out.
14. Does this help? http://support.fender.com/manuals/instruments/Mustang_Bass_(1966)_manual.pdf
15. I remember seeing a recruitment ad for Hermes not so long ago and the rate for a parcel delivered was 69p
16. Hasn't the wife told you to get that 'bloody box' out of the hall yet?
17.
There is something about the '69er that is quite special. It must be the combination of sealed punchy goodness, added harmonics from that top right driver, and the roll off at 40Hz - it just works really well. All of those elements have changed - I hope this cab hasn't lost what makes the '69er so special.
This, plus, I love my 69er and have no desire to change even if the new 6x10 is a little louder. I'd guess that the new 10s are 24 ohms each.
18. I think what you are trying to do is more simple than what you are trying to do it on. Perhaps all you need is a hard disc recorder such as one of these, http://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_micro_br_br80.htm or even an old portastudio. Not as versatile I know, but a lot easier to use.
19. I don't mind as long as lots of them.
20.
Can you Bi-Amp the Thomann amp to do something like 2 x 500w at 8 Ohm?
Yes. http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_d4500.htm http://images.thomann.de/pics/prod/c_218916_en_online.pdf
21. We use a couple of these for our PA. Very impressed. http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_d4500.htm
22. Slow blues in E chaps? No jamming for me thanks.
23. No, just a lot of grass to cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV8RF45n0BY
