1. Who played bass for ABBA? Lay all your love on me sounds fun
 2.
My biggest problem is explaining to the local Irish pubs that my band is four, white, middle-aged Englishmen. It's the 'English' bit that does the damage. Age / colour / religion is of little interest to them. Whether or not we play The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, and ... erm ... "songs for the boys" is what matters.
I'd have thought admitting you're 'Southerners/Londoners' would have killed the deal?
 3.
............... My one neighbour then uses a petrol driven blower thing for his cuttings, what a racket that produces. ........
A lady up the road to my house uses an electric leaf blower, spends literally hours blowing leaves and rubbish out of her front garden on a weekly basis. I think she's given up work to concentrate her efforts on this job. But the noise is so awful it could be used to torture people in South American prisons!
 4. I was always in two minds about Tony Franklin but I've decided he's not a knob after all but cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxZukx-Drw0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7yYHH9SA54
 5.
From recollection and contemporary accounts the Beatles' primary fanbase was - at first - teenagers of the female kind. As their popularity grew the Fabs' audience extended to include older people, charmed by that Liverpudlian insouciance and cheerful demeanour. This popularity among adults receded somewhat when the Beatles became 'edgier' and were seen to embrace narcotics, bushy haircuts and progressive politics. For example, my father liked the Beatles until - the final straw - Lennon repainted his Rolls Royce in a flower-power stylee. 'That's just vandalism,' opined my Pa and scorned them from that day forward.
Not forgetting how those screaming teenage fans now examine every song with a microscope, looking for 'hidden meanings'
 6. I'll pay tribute too. I'm going through a bit of a phase at the moment and Crowded House are on my playlist!
 7. I've had to accompany my daughter to a couple of Biebers concerts. So in another twenty years, when guys are asking questions about Biebers music, I will truthfully be able to say "You don't understand, you wasn't there man"
 8.
10pm Channel 4 tonight, In His Own Words. Looks interesting.
I watched this and found it fascinating. Not at all what I was expecting
 9.
Well, that's up to you. I'd say that deciding that someone is 'naturally' more talented or 'plays better' than you and then refusing to critique them is creating your own sacred cows.
Nicely put.
 10. Sad. Hopefully he gets them back, but in all honesty they were probably stolen to order
 11.
The Beatles were teen idols that grumpy old men categorised as flash in the pan talentless mop top whatever's...... jus sayin I think beibers got talent.
Did you see the documentary about the Everly Brothers story last night? Glad to see the same grumpy old men, screaming young girls and threats of banning singles for being too racey! Heard that before... For young people now, those between 12-19yr, youtube is the source of their celebrities and performers. It's a huge market now but still in its infancy. Perhaps its an indication that you don't need to be special or talented to be a celebrity?, but its easy and accessible. There are crossovers with vloggers on tour doing motivational speaking/music/drama at the same show. Interesting times ahead.
 12.
I disowned my cousin coz he got his dad to take him to a David Cassidy concert lol oh man that made me larf all over again "then he came out in a white suit !"
I'd imagine that, for a teenage boy that wanted to 'hit' on girls, he had the last laugh?
 13. There's a very dark cloud hanging over my house, as my teenage daughter has recently decided to 'migrate' her focus of attention from Bieber to 21 pilots. Disappointing after the financial investment "I've" made in him, but at least there's a bass player in 21 pilots. I don't know why some guys get their panties in such a knot about Bieber, there'll always be 'Bieber characters' as long as there are teenage girls to obsess over them? I grew up with an older sister obsessed with David Cassidy (remember him).
 14.
Can't help feeling that print media is doomed.
I remember people saying that back in the '80s
 15. Good, but his heart was never in it?
 16.
I blame the cyclist!!!
No, its always the fault of the Londoner
 17.
I have experience in selling to large resellers. I know how they work. From Thomanns POV they sell instruments. They accept returns. If an instrument is returned they have a system for this and they don't lose money as they will have agreements with their suppliers. With a large seller, as soon as you want to do something outside of their system you are on your own. Their system can't handle it. The people yout talk to in customer services aren't allowed to make decisions about what might make sense. So you HAVE to work with them in ways they can operate.
Interesting, would these large retailers 'scan' the internet for negative comments by customers?
 18.
....... Michael Dempsey - mostly for his playing on Sulk by The Associates .......
Always liked his playing on 'club country'
 19.
Certainly did know it wasn't EVH but I curse whoever did . Unfortunately tapping and sweep picking have led to the rise of soul less, mechanical fretw***ers across the globe.
Is this what you mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3CPoYGyQ7w
 20.
Yes, I think it is just ash, this was originally concrete / steel construction which has since been brick skinned but the inner walls are basically powder. I will be sure to use much bigger screws next time, I don't see any way of getting rid of hangers at the moment
I used to live in a house with walls like that. In fact the construction seemed to be from two materials, one was a 'dust' that meant whatever drill size you used the wall would just fall apart before your eyes, the second was a super hard concrete (designed for nuclear bunkers) that would require diamond tipped drills to even make a dent. God knows how they used to manage when the only drill was a 'bit-and-brace'? I find that the standard fixings with those wall hangers are only designed to take the weight of an accoustic. If you want to hang an electric guitar/bass you've got to beef it up a bit
 21. Might not be the 'party line' but I sort of feel sorry for the shop?
 22. "I think we can manage to squeeze another apprentice into our under 11's youth team"
 23. It sometimes help if you apply some "gentle pressure" to the neck to help take some of the load off the truss rod, rather than just cranking on it
 24. OK, I think Dave might have had a few beers but some interesting points. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3piea3NOHV8
 25. Considering all the various sub-sections here I'm surprised there's not a more relevant section to sell a guitar than this?
