1. I am looking at replacing the bridge on my j bass copy. How do I select the appropriate position if my current locating holes dont line up. Can I allow for any slight inaccuracies with the built in adjustment? Cheers
 2.
Well I have a selection of cabs, 1x10, 1x12 and 2x12, A Genz-Benz shuttle 6.0 head, and I have a spare Laney R3H head for function gigs to keep in the van just in case of failures that is fairly small for a class A head, I have made a speakon to jack lead so all combinations can be made on the fly in needed. This leaves me with a Laney HCM30B combo that I will never use that is taking up space in my cupboard where the 1x10 can go and live if one of you nice Basschatters wants it? It has 4 of the 8 plastic corners missing but works as it always has, Its not going to work as backline for Knebworth or challenge my Genz gear but hey its free. I could stick it on the bay but I would rather just pass it on in case they think as they often do that they are getting £1000's gear for tupence and ruin my good feedback. First pm gets it I guess, Collection will be from the Stafford area, Sorry before anyone asks Im not going to wrap it for postage and all that too, If im going to do that and take it to the post office I may aswell list it on ebay Any takers? Its just like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LANEY-HCM30B-AMP-/230606696025 but dustier and with 4 corners missing, Its just more Rock than theirs (and free)
Wow, I would snap that up if I wasnt so far away!

 4. I have tried to search out a "bog standard" j bass wiring diagram can anyone help. When I mean bog standard thats no midi, graphic equalizers, batteries etc Thanks
 5.
Well then, the world is your oyster! So many choices, so little time. I'm assuming that the bass is passive??? Might be worth looking at some of the Fender pickups that come up here, or even the dreaded Ebay. Although they're often disgarded by those in search of something better, stock Fender pickups (or even some of the more "exotic" Fender p'ups) are a nice place to start. I've got some Originals in my J copy and they tend to make the appropriate sounds. They can also be found going for a song - sure, there are cooler, more expensive and (even) better items, but on a budget, you could do worse. May be worth giving the electricals a once over and upgrading at the same time too. Have fun.
Hi, yes to everything you said. lol I am waiting for a new control plate and pots to arrive at the minute. Interesting point about Fender gear as that would effectively be an upgrade for me. I would be happy with some fender pups. Cheers
 6.
What sort of bass is it?
J bass copy
 7.
its his technique - i like that bit of percussive thrrupp from a low action and an aggressive finger style
I like that, it sort of makes it both a rhythm and percussive instrument. But, would the "youtube" purists not approve!
 8.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=guy+pratt
That'll teach me to search first. I should know better! lol But, what about the fret buzz? Cheers
 9. OK thanks. I will look into pickups. Should keep me busy for a while. Many thanks for your help
 10. I guess I am not the only one who has seen Guy Pratt playing the "great disco bass lines" you tube video. But, there is a lot of fret buzz. Is this a compromise on a low action or acceptable side effect of playing. Also, what is special about a "stack knob" Jazz bass? Is it age? Many thanks (be patient I am new)
 11.
It's worth it if you enjoy tinkering and you are happy to use the exercise as an opportunity to learn more about your instrument. You will hopefully gain an understanding of the electronics, how to solder, how it all goes together, how to set it up to suit you. You might even end up with a very playable instrument. I recently upgraded a cheapest of the cheap squier affinity p bass that turned out really well and is now a pleasure to play. There's a thread about it in the Build diaries section if you are interested. You may well turn a profit, you may not but ultimately it's worth it for the experience, assuming you are not a complete disaster area around tools/soldering irons etc
Yeah, I had already seen this. Very interesting. Its difficult to see the difference in the machine heads though.
 12. Great. Thanks for the help and advice. I must say that I am not in it for profit. Just the fun side really. I understand with pickups you get what you pay for. But, the bridge looks to be a very different item. Genuine Fender Jazz bridges dont appear to look a lot different from the hardware on cheapy copies, just a bent piece of steel screwed to the body. Would I be right in thinking that the more "mass" or substance to the bridge the better. Thanks again for the great advice
 13. Hi, as a newbie can someone give me an idea of what would give the most cost effective improvement in sound and playability to a "value" bass guitar. I know there are many youtube videos showing upgrading Fender's etc, but what if your guitar is not one of the big hitters and does not have quality components in the first place. If I took a £100 bass and swapped out the pick ups, bridge and machine heads would it be cost effective. There are a few parts/accessory suppliers that offer components at what I think is reasonable costs. But, where to start? Any ideas?
 14. Hi, can someone help out a newbie. I am trying to identify a recent purchase. Its a j bass copy but I cant identify the headstock decal. Obviously, it has long since gone but has left a vague outline which I have tried to capture on the pic. It is obviously circular with the remnants of the lettering just visible. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks
