1. Do Mighty Mite necks have a logo on the headstock? If not, how can they be identified? Cheers
2. Thanks for the replies. I will put the shielding in. As far as the earthing in the control plate goes, should I add more earthing wires generally or keep them to a minimum. Cheers
3.
Usually Copper Tape, adhesive backed thin copper, but you need to solder all the joins to ensure continuity & make sure it contacts the metal control panel. Are your controls physically connected by a ground wire or are they relying on contact via the plate? Have you tried another instrument cable just to eliminate that? Cheerz, John
Hi mate thanks for that. Where would I obtain Copper tape? Also, I have checked all my wiring. I had to fit a new control plate and pups when I built the guitar and soldered everything then. Should I "overdo" earthing connections or keep them to a minimum. I remember reading something about too many earth connections causing interference problems? Cheers, Mike
4. I have noticed that there is a very quiet constant rustling type intereference that stops when I put my finger on the bridge or control panel. Have I answered my own question with an earthing problem. Its a bitza jazz that has been up and running for a couple of weeks now. I have checked the wiring again to make sure the soldering is still good and checked the bridge earth. The only thing I dont have is "shielding" in the cut out for the control plate. What sort of material should I use if I need this? Cheers
5. This thread is going from bad to worse!
6. You crack on mate. Dont forget the idea is to have fun! As mentioned before, there is a book about Fender type guitars. I have seen it advertised on Amazon. Might be worth seeing if your local library can get one, I know they stock other Haynes titles
7. Go one step at a time. Take lots of pictures as reference in case you want to return it to standard. Unless you are fitting a really fancy electronic "carlos fandango" control element I wouldnt be too bothered. If you can wire a plug you will be fine. You will need to learn to solder. Its not hard but a little practice helps. For what its worth, when I did my bitza jazz the biggest improvement by a mile was pickups. I now have the sound I was after and even though I am tempted to replace the tuners I really dont think I will get an aural return on my money. So it will stay as it is until I get itchy fingers again!
8. OK. So if a "quality" tuner doesnt affect the guitar staying in tune why bother with them. I was under the impression that cheap tuners mean constant re tuning?
9.
Someone already beat me to it - they're very difficult to drop! As for other advantages, it's all down to your preferred right-hand technique. You can still hold it like a normal plec, but it allows you to play using only your thumb (as demonstrated with The Knack's bassman), but with more attack than using the thumb alone. You can also get them in plastic.
I have only recently picked up a bass after a 35yr gap. When I was a teen and learning bass I had a pick that was made of plastic, thick with a sort of twist to it, not like the flat pick. Can you get anything like that now?

11.
If you've tightened the screw in the back of the capstan and it is still doing it, I'd suggest it's your neck that is shifting as tuners don't tend to unwind.
What do you mean by shifting, its not tight to the body?
12.
I use one occasionally, along with two metal finger picks. I bought them to use with my Banjo but I use them in the same way on the Bass sometimes. I wish I could find a thumb pick that was metal, for moulding onto my thumb (plastic ones don't fit properly) but with a soft plastic pick part. I know American Banjo players use such a thing but it would be nice to find one over here so that I didn't have to order from America.
On a five string banjo, what is the little string for that ends half way up the fretboard?
13.
It's probably a thumb plectrum - I used one for a bit years ago when I was learning: Nice bass tone on the vid.
Oh, OK. Other than a learning aid, any advantage where tone or playability is concerned. Looks like a half way between finger and plectrum?
14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1T71PGd-J0 Watch the vid. I thought the bassist had a pick but it looks like he has a gadget on his thumb? Anyone know what thats all about?
15. Is there anything I can do to restore my old machine heads. Guitar seems to need constant tuning, I guess they are the weak link now. Just about the only thing left to change on my bitza jazz!
16. I have recently treated myself to some genuine Fender pups for my bitza jazz bass. Only trouble is I noticed that when I screwed them in the screws were just catching on the side of the pups. They went in fine but are dragging a little. I know it is a bit Anoraky! but does someone have the screw dimensions as it looks like I am going to have to address this problem. The screws I used held in the old knackered "bitza" pups and look like small thin black roundhead screws, obviously there is a subtle difference. The screws are gripping the plastic tight and not letting the pups rise properly to adjust their height. Thanks
17. I am amazed that they dont put the "Fender" logo on every little thing!
18. Is it possible to spot genuine Fender tuners without dismantling. Is there a subtle giveaway or slight design feature that you only find on geniune hardware? Cheers
19. OK, would these necks be machined to accept standard Fender tuners or would you be expected to do some "finishing off" Cheers
20. I am "poking" around looking at replacing my J bass neck. I have heard good things about "mighty mite". Are there any other neck manufacturers, would I have to order it from USA or do they have a UK distributor. Unfortunately my budget is not limitless! Cheers
21.
Hmm don't know if it's the sellers fault. Those parts are all to often prone to "melt" in inexperienced hands.... and the OP has admitted to stripping it whilst setting the intonation ie. while it was under tension. +1 for buying a replacement. Sell the busted one as parts to help pay for your new one.... and be careful next time.
Well, I could have lied and said it arrived like that! What amazes me is that as someone who sells used cars for a living. If I offered a 7 day no return warranty regardless I would be "inside" by now. Im in the wrong business!
22.
you contacted the seller? doesent really sound like excessive use, id also for a replacement personally
Yes to all that
23. Hi, thanks for the reply. Does this help? This is what is has replaced?
