1. I remember "Satellite". I dont remember them being anything special, just another copy. But it must have some age to it, 70s even?
2. Could one of you great bass gods explain to a lowly member why, on this bass, and the "Pino Paladino signature precision", "Jaco Pastorious tribute" and "Reggie Hamilton signature" that Fender have chosen to select premium wood, upgraded electronics and pickups yet chosen to leave the bridge standard. Isnt this the one component that everyone changes. I cant believe that Pino's "exacting standards" never stretched to an upgraded bridge. Ok now beat me up!
3. Is there anything missing from this track as a "metal" cliche. Its got the screaming vocals. Male voice choir. Church Bells. Guitar solo. Even a little bass guitar run! Dont miss the ending that goes on and on.....?
4. Could be worse! Could be in the "garden of England" South London!
5.
I say go for it. As for sounding like Mick Karn, you could chase that for ages and never get there. And you may be more likely to find your own sound and grow to appreciate that. Trying to sound just like any given player in IMHO a bit of an uphill task, as there's too many factors to consider. I'd say have a go, see if you like it, then noodle around alot to get used to it. Fingerstyle, playing with a plectrum, etc - all part of the fun!
Do you think shaving my eyebrows off might help?
6. AC/DC Hell aint a bad place to be! http://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/ac-dc-hell-ain-t-a-bad-place-to-be-bass-tab-s22274t2
7. Can anyone point me towards any? Cheers
8.
Mick Karn had a unique way of playing, note choice and timing... If you want to learn fretless you are IMHO going to have to learn how to play fingerstyle. You can do that on your fretted, whilst saving up for a fretless. The aforementioned Squier jazz is ok and excellent for the money.
Yep, dont think he used a pick Will I have to stop using my beloved roundwound strings too!
9. Trouble is I'm broke at the moment. No spare money for "toys". A lottery win would be nice?
10. I have had some fun with my bass after a "stay of absence" of over 30 yrs. I have had great fun re learning all those stranglers lines. But, and this is a big but I have really fallen in love with those beautiful Mick Karn fretless bass lines. Trouble is, as a hard digging pick player how do I go to fretless. I cant really afford to buy a Wal or a Fender fretless come to think of it. I would have to make do with a Cheaper copy of something. But would that give me the sound I am after. I even thought about getting a fretless neck and swapping it over on my fretted guitar just to try and see how it feels. Not really sure what to do or where to go now!
11.
That's about it, other than ensuring that the truss rod is functioning.
The problem is buying stuff off the internet on description only!
12.
Have you tried a different lead?
Sorry yes I didnt mention that. I followed a pretty standard jazz wiring diagram that I pinched off this site. The only difference was running the bridge earth wire to the output jack earth instead of onto the tone pot earth, but as they are connected I couldnt see a difference. Maybe I shouldnt expect total silence while the bass is on. Its not the noise that bothers me, but the fact that I appear to be earthing it!
13. I took out the control plate and checked over the wiring again. Everthing seemed good, so I thought I would just add some more earthing wires. After fitting it all back its still the same but now I had a distorted neck pup. Took the control plate out again and it seemed the pot was crackling (only a few months old). The connection for the "+" wire for the pup seemed to be the problem. When you wiggle the wire the sound cut in and out. On closer inspection the small tab that you solder the pup wire to was a little loose on the circuit board of the pot. I managed to put a small dab of solder but it looks like another pot is going to be needed. At the moment it is sounding all good but I have still not solved the earthing problem. It makes a gentle rustling noise after a few seconds of switching on which disappears when you place your finger on any of the metalwork ie bridge strings control plate. Still at least it is sounding ok
14. They seem a bit hit and miss as far as build quality goes. But I have noticed that you can buy the complete guitar for not much more than a neck on Ebay. I could break the remains and flog it off. I will maybe wait until after xmas when there will be a load of affinity basses on Ebay! lol How do you check over an old or used neck? Clean it up and check for straightness. Check for level and undamaged frets. Check the nut. Check the tuners are smooth and tight. What else?
15. In that case go for it! I thought you were intending to use to play your guitar through. Its usually the quickest way to fook a hifi! Just my opinion, nothing personal
16. Im a bit confused with these Squier guitars. I understand that they are one step below a genuine Fender with minor differences with hardware quality etc. I have been "poking" around looking for a neck for my j bass bitza. A squire would probably be a good upgrade for me. I reckon I could get a complete squier affinity for £80 and sell off everything but the neck, or buy a neck with tuners for about £50. Is there any difference with the affinity necks to ordinary squier? Thanks
17. Dont bother mate. It will only last five minutes, its not robust enough for use with a guitar. Dont bother with Ebay, stick it on gumtree, it will go!
18. I think mine is quite an early one that has had the decal removed. I have emailed the company. Thanks
19. I have had dealings with that shop and I would not recommend them. But thats just my opinion. Be warned there are some shocking cheap rip off chinese electronics heading our way
20. Get a set out of the pound shop, they're always handy to have
21.
Reading your op again, I'm wondering if the jack socket is well & truly connected physically & electrically to the control plate? Don't suppose you've got a multimeter? I'd solder a wire from the jack socket outer ring to each pot body & link to the bridge, to be sure.
Thanks, I will give it a go
22. Can you remember what it looked like?
23. Do you know if they have ever used a headstock logo?
