1. It's OK, but I'd have preferred a little changing of the sounds on each bass. After all, the strength of the Jazz is the two pickups and tone combinations and they hardly explored that. Interesting to hear the differences though. The Flea model sounded good. Thanks for posting. Frank.
2. Best wishes for health and happiness. Frank.
3. He's very impressive at Glastonbury tonight although I did think earlier that it would be so much better with a band. What an all-round talent though! Frank.
4.
With regards to noticing you, it doesn't count if you play naked. That's cheating. Apparently. I wish someone had told me before the whole issue with the police...
5. You'll be fine. The supply frequency is effected by the engine speed. The engine will be so lightly loaded that the frequency should be rock steady. The same with the voltage, there shouldn't be voltage drops, again because the alternator is putting out a small fraction of its full power. Frank.
6. I've suffered tennis and golfer's elbow at the same time - very painful. I've also had a frozen shoulder twice! Once in each shoulder. Even more painful than tennis/golfer's elbow... However, my experience of steroid injections is that they made the pain worse, or perhaps more accurately, the injection was more painful than the condition itself. I wouldn't have one again in similar circumstances. It's a case of the cure being worse than the disease. At least in my case it was. Frank.
7. I've been using EXL220BT nickels for quite a while. They do seem to last a long time - although the recent price rise is annoying. Frank.
8.
I had the same Karlfer when I changed them on that Super 12. I was going to just put a wood screw in the additional handle holes (purely to stop that slight movement), but I never got round to it.
You really need to have a washer and nut inside the cab. A screw will not be secure in the thin plywood. Frank.
9. I'm assuming you mean there are only two holes in the cabinet? If that's right, I'd be inclined to drill two more holes to use the handles as they were intended and designed to be used, ie two bolts at each end. Of course, if my assumption was wrong, I've just wasted 3 minutes typing this. Frank.
10.
What do people reckon to the EBS Reidmar 500? Seems quite reasonable for what you get.
I have the Reidmar 750 and it's a beast of an amp. Tone and volume in spades. So, even though I haven't heard a 500, for the price, I reckon they must be a super-bargain. They don't have the "drive" knob that's on the 750 though if that's important to you. Also, Thomann have the old version, the Reidmar 470, for £388. These have a reputation for being more powerful than the figures suggest. Worth a punt if you're on a tight budget? Frank.
11. I seem to remember that the amp in the combo doesn't have a top metal cover. Can anyone confirm because it's been maybe 8+ years since I owned a Markbass combo? Maybe the newer ones are different? Anyone? 1. The amp is just a tight fit in its slot. 2. I don't know the answer to this but, if it helps, I can't think of any reason to glue a speaker in place. Any I've removed just needed a little gentle persuasion. Frank.
12. Very nice. I wonder when they'll be putting one on my house? Frank.
13. The EBS Reidmar 750 has a "drive" knob that's very effective, if that's your thing. For what they offer, the price is very keen too. Frank.
14. Yes, it wasn't good, but you can't stop the march of time and still, she has a great musical legacy. Frank.
15. PM sent. Many thanks for your help. Frank.
16. I've tried to download a wiring diagram several times from the Warwick website. When I open the pdf file it opens new tabs repeatedly. It will open 100s if left alone. The bass is a Korean Warwick Streamer LX4 pro series. The year appears to be 2012. (And it's a very nice bass.) A previous owner has tried fitting new pickups and as a consequence, the wiring is a mess. Wires have been cut all over the place and nothing has been marked. If anyone has the wiring diagram and can email it to me or instruct me where I'm going wrong with downloading from Warwick I'd be most grateful. Frank.
17. Apart from the obvious differences (finish and choice of woods for example) how close do the Stingray experts (which I am not!) feel that the 2003 to 2005 US SUB model is to the Stingray Classic? Frank.
18.
I haven't owned a bad amp in the dozen or so I've had in the last 10 years, but my go-to amp since it came out has been the Aguilar TH500. Having said that, the best amp would have to be either of my Thunderfunks, the 550 and then the 750.
There seems to be a lot of love for the Thunderfunks. One major plus with Thunderfunks is that, with the possible exception of the main transformer, all the parts are standard and replaceable. I love mine and it's the only amp that gets positive comments from other musicians. (When used with a Barefaced BB2.) Frank.
19. My favourite is my Thunderfunk but the EBS Reidmar 750 deserves a mention as a shining example of the latest and much improved class D amps. The Mesa Walkabout is also much loved by many, myself included. Frank.
20. I have an older Fender Rumble 15W with an 8" speaker and it sounds great at low volumes. It cost me £30. Frank.
21.
Local guitar store advised on low end loss with smaller speakers. Anyone with experience on the 2x10hf? No one round here has them to try. The barefaced stuff is similar weight but seems more money and less available secondhand
Have a read on the Barefaced website for lots of useful information which will help your decision process. http://barefacedbass.com/technical-information/speaker-size-frequency-response.htm The shops advice regarding speaker sizes is unfortunately misleading - at best. I can't imagine a situation where a pair of Markbass 2 x 10s wouldn't easily do the job. They are excellent cabs. I had a pair of the Traveller 2 x 10 cabs and while the larger 2 x 10s are superior, the little Traveller cabs are surprisingly good. Frank.
22. No. But I have taken my cock out on occasion, during a big showy bass solo. Frank.
23.
Hi all the tone pot on my Fender jaguar doesn't seem to be doing much to the overall sound the the bass, I have checked the wiring and all seems attached, I know the jaguar series can be a bit temperamental but has anyone experienced this problem? Many thanks, Tom
If it's an American Standard version the tone knob doesn't work in "active" mode. Is yours a USA built one? Frank.
24. I had the Fender Rumble 15 and it sounded great at home, at low volumes. I also used it for quiet band rehearsals. A nice little amp. Frank.
25. An excellent and entertaining post. It made me laugh, which is a good thing for me. Frank.
