  1. Such sad news. As I get older myself, I tend to forget how old some of my musical heroes are. Frank.
  2. I have one and I'd definitely recommend it. It easily competes with my US Fenders. I've been playing it exclusively since I got it in early 2020. Frank.
  3. Lovely bass in a great colour. I have a Fender PJ Jazz which is an excellent instrument. Frank.
  4. Welcome from Belfast. Frank.

    In Memoriam

I heard just yesterday that basschat member, Markbass555, David Neill, has passed away after a battle with cancer. I know he has bought and sold on basschat so some of you may have dealt with him. David was a superb bass player and a thoroughly decent person who will be missed by his friends and family. Frank.
  6. What a mess. How the hell does a bass get into that condition? I have a guitar that was bought for me (used) in 1968. It's been well gigged and is still in good condition. Foly huck! I'd give £100 for it no matter who owned it. Frank.
  7. The jazz pickup in my US Fender Jaguar has adjustable pole pieces, although I have no reason to adjust them. Frank.
  8. I have one (Thunderfunk) that has been my main gigging amp for several years. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Frank.
  9. That's a fantastic job Brian. The flames actually look real! I love it from start to finish. A brilliant job. Frank.
  10. My Flea jazz has taken over from any of the several USA fenders and one MIJ Fender I own. The sound and feel are right up there. I hope you get the trade you want! Frank.
  11. Yes! I have one too, also strung with TI flats. And I agree, it's a real thumpy bass. They're a different vibe to a split coil Precision (I have one of those too, of course 😉 )but more versatile than you might expect. That's a good recommendation msb. Frank.
  12. Yes! I forgot about the Fender Rumble 15. I had one a few years ago and it was excellent for home practice - not up to gigging though. Good call. Frank.
  13. I don't see what advantage you would have over a one10 - small and superb sounding. I use one of mine for quiet home practice, rehearsals and small pub gigs. Anyway, the PJB gear is excellent. That would be my choice. Not cheap though! The Markbass 6" or 8" combos would also fit the bill at a cheaper price. They also sound good for home use. Frank.
  14. I learned to play guitar from the age of around 10. I was taught the "proper" way by reading music. I think this was a really valuable experience since I have a knowledge of music theory and... I can read the guitarist's fingers in a jam. . Not just chords but the positions they are playing in solos. I moved over to bass guitar at about the age of 35? and enjoy it far more than guitar. Frank.
  15. I've sent you a PM Nick. Frank.
  16. Any of the AER combos would fit the bill - but at a high cost. Nothing else is in the same league. The Markbass CMD121P is also a superb combo and much more affordable. Frank.

I bought a Roqsolid cab bag from Lawrence. It was extremely well packed, was exactly as described, fairly priced and the deal was very pleasant throughout. Deal with Lawrence in total confidence. Thanks again Lawrence. Frank.
  18. I'll have this please. I'll PM you about posting cost to Belfast. Frank.
  19. TI flats are my favourite strings. I have them on most of my basses. I love the low tension that others seem to dislike. Also the tone and versatility is excellent. The fact that they last so long is a massive bonus. Frank.
  20. For me it’s all about the bass itself and nothing about the artist. As much as I love Paul McCartney’s playing, I never liked the violin bass.😀 Frank.
  21. That's a thing of great beauty. Thanks for sharing. Frank.
  22. Last week Ed Sheeran played to massive crowds in Belfast. He writes some decent songs, but I wouldn't pay to see someone with an acoustic guitar and a looper pedal. In my opinion, there's far more life to the music from a full band. Judging by the number at his gigs, my opinion is unpopular. Frank.
  23. I think it'll easily do what you want. For performance, size, weight and cost, they're very hard to beat. Frank.
  24. I much prefer lighter gauge strings. My favourites are TI flats. D'Addario nickel EXL220 or EXL220BT for rounds. I play with a light touch and I find I can get a deeper tone this way as well as being able to play faster and with more comfort. I really dislike high tension and heavy strings. We're all different - obviously! Frank.
  25. The Jazz 61 seems to have a hi mass bridge? Or are my eyes deceiving me? Frank.
