I have heated and froze and wd40d it, what would be the next move as I cannot find a matching saddle for love nor money?
How about http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Chrome-4-String-Saddle-Bridge-Silver-Fixed-Tail-For-Fender-Bass-Guitar-/281550096886 which has the slot closer to the intonation screw than the one you got?

What's the history on Status Graphite model names?
tauzero replied to MrWalker's topic in Bass Guitars
First, there was the Series 1. It all goes downhill from there. -
Looks like centre negative for the tuner: which is standard for guitar effects, so the PSU should be.

Does just turning the jack plug in the socket revive it?
Oh yes. I sold my 76P a few years ago and did the whole merry-go-round GAS thing with P/J basses, Jazz basses, relics, P copies, modern P basses, active basses and on and on and on. Got my 76P back recently and haven't put it down since, I'm exhausted from lack of sleep! So what does that tell you?
That you're about to sell it and go off on another GAS-induced journey?
Gordon Bennett! That's insane value. I'm not entirely sure about Behringer gear - IIRC the pedals are really inexpensive, but were known for sucking tone right out of your sound and having an intolerable amount of hiss, but that was a few years back in fairness.
I've got a couple of Behringer pedals (ADI21 and AB100) and both get hissy if I power them with an adaptor but are fine with battery power.

It gets louder as you pluck the strings harder?

Replacing Berg CN212 with 2x BF Super Compacts... Thoughts?
tauzero replied to goonerjoe's topic in Amps and Cabs
The AE112 is the least desirable of all Jims cabs, HD and CN cabs are a revelation in comparison!
I'm very happy with my pair of AE112s. Best sound I've ever had. -
Oh brother..What a load of crap, even for this guy! Sheesh :-) he did this at the Talk Bass website, too. I never said I didn't understand the 'science', he's assuming so much as to be laughable. To say that according to the numbers, you would need 2 EVM 15's to get 'the sound' of a single 'modern' 15 is ridiculous. Which 'modern 15', for example?.
That's not what he said. He said that to get the same output (that's volume level) as a modern 15 with twice the Xmax, you'd need two of the older drivers with 3.3mm Xmax. Nothing about "the sound".

Advice on fretless with narrow string spacing, 4/5 string
tauzero replied to zawinul's topic in Bass Guitars
Peavey Cirrus? One thing to watch out for with 5-strings is that some are 35" scale, so you need to decide whether that will be OK for you. And another thing to think of is that as you're after a lined fretless, defretting a fretted bass is also an option. -
(It was my bass - tauzero had the lovely Warwick Buzzard )
Yep, Thunderbirds only have 80% of my required complement of strings. I suspect that a 5-string T-bird with a 5-0 headstock might be a little on the neck-divey side.
The worst bit about TINY crowds is that half of them are usually made up of the other bands. Meaning at least 50% of the audience are musicians...watching your every move...
Or, if it's a Moffat Bass Bash, they're all bassists.
The volume control on a bass is a cut control. It doesn't make the bass any louder. Only quieter. So if you turn down your bass you're effectively limiting the range of dynamics available to you. Or rather making that range more narrow and harder to make fine adjustments from your fingers.
No, the ratio of sound level between your quietest and loudest notes will still be the same.

Anyone using "plays like butter" to mean "plays smoothly" has obviously never tried to spread cold butter.

Some two pickup basses give a noticably complex sound, almost like a chorus. Not that anyone will ever hear that down at the Dog & Duck.

Mrs Zero uses the Line 6 XD-V35. We have had the occasional failure to communicate but as the quick and dirty solution to that is to grab a wired mic and continue with that, we've never done any proper experimenting to find out whether simply changing channel would sort it out.

It could be the pots, it could also be a leaky capacitor allowing DC into the audio circuitry. You could do a reasonably cheap replacement with an Artec SE3P-A giving you the same number and function of controls - http://www.axesrus.co.uk/SE3PA-3-band-EQ-system-p/se3p-a.htm has them at £36.
I'm surprised at how many people "keep a bit in reserve"! I always assumed (rightly or wrongly) that reducing the volume would affect the tone and that basses work best with volumes up full. Better for signal to noise ratio too... but maybe this is not true?
On an active bass, tone doesn't get affected unless turning the volume up pushes the amp front end into clipping. Yes, SNR is better with the volume full up, but decent modern amps and effects units have very little N so it becomes a theoretical issue.
Easier on a P bass (or something with only one volume control) but trying to do that on a J could be fiddly as having the two volumes set differently would change the tone (balance of the pickups) a bit I would guess.
Yes, I have volume and blend on most of my basses so it's not an issue.
My problem is that if the volume(s) were less than 100%, I wouldn't quite know where I was! If it is always on full and I knock it slightly, I can quickly check and return it to its "full on" position. OK, so I'm a bit clumsy and often catch my knobs when I am playing...
As we almost always play with backline only and no PA support for instruments, I set it by ear (and then don't knock it). If I do adjust it in the set, again, it's by ear.
Do those of you who keep a bit in reserve and then turn up have someone out front riding the desk ?
No. I don't generally need it, but I'm not afraid to use it if volume levels creep up. And I'm not afraid to turn it down a bit too.

Slimming down a Shergold replacement neck
tauzero replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yes - as you say, the original has a 'capstan' accessible in a slot under the heel. And as PlungerModerno rightly says, the replacement has a conventional allen-key access at the headstock....I need to find out what Paul's preference is with that in terms of leaving it as is or covering it with a bent cover.
I just realised that you did cover that in your last bullet point in your original post about the necks. I was very glad that I only had to adjust the truss rod very rarely (although it is a better system than the daft Fender one, but not by much). -
Rechargeables are all very well but (assuming you take a spare battery) you have to keep the spare topped up or get a low self-discharge PP3 (not a common-or-garden NiMH).

Slimming down a Shergold replacement neck
tauzero replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Repairs and Technical
How do you adjust the truss rod on the replica? On the original (or the Hayman 40/40, anyway) you went through a slot on the rear of the body with a special tool which was a cranked piece of metal and turned the wheel with that. The wheel isn't visible on the replica.
