1. Although I am disinclined to think of DJs as musicians, you could draw an analogy with artists who produce collages. Just because the components of their work weren't originated by them doesn't mean that they're not artists. So I think I shall find a nice wide comfy bit of fence to sit on.

 3.
As far as I'm concerned you can either cover the gig or you can't. If you can't you need to take steps that make sure you can do what you need to do, If that is making sure you have access to kit or can borrow it, then that is down to you. Personally I wouldn't take the chance of someone not lending me any kit..so i'd arrange that before hand.
I think it's also far more polite to sort it out in advance than to turn up and ask. Drummers need to as not every one will have the same idea of "breakables" and some won't want their stands adjusted to other people's requirements.
 4.
We might even be able to find a holy grail bass that whilst not everyone will love it - it would be a bass that we would all consider and not discount for the reasons above!
There will now be at least ten replies saying "A Precision".
 5.
In regards to RMS and a "level playing field", well that's actually what that whole post I linked to was attempting to explain; that RMS doesn't, in and of itself, create a level playing field - it has just gotten to be a commonplace rating, albeit imperfect. However, being commonplace does not make a metric impervious to being manipulated or massaged. If you haven't checked out our CEO's thoughts on the matter in the post of his I linked to, I would encourage you to do so, to further understand the company's point of view on the matter of power ratings. I'm unable to give you an RMS rating, because my understanding is that we don't use that metric to measure output whatsoever, so that information just isn't available from our technical group for me to give to you.
You're conflating two things. RMS doesn't of itself imply a constant power output, it's the measurement of the integral of the voltage rather than the peak to peak value - so the peak-to-peak voltage of a sine wave is 1.414 times its RMS value, hence its peak-to-peak power is twice its RMS power, regardless of whether that's transient or constant. In fact, the test that Uli Behringer refers to in his article measures RMS voltage, so the power outputs referred to in the test are measured in RMS watts. The trouble with the power rating given with no qualification whatsoever is that its then impossible to make any sort of comparison with other products, and there's no information from which a tester can validate the values claimed. If you were to give, say, ratings (in RMS power) of maximum constant 1kHz output (for 5 minutes), and a few burst modes at 1kHz (eg. 50mS bursts, 10% duty cycle, 500mS bursts at 50% duty cycle, 5S bursts at 50%), then the same at 50Hz and 5kHz, and give that as a table in the specs, you've established a metric and effectively challenged your competitors to be as transparent about their ratings.
 6.
Any bass that isn't a Precison.....
I think if you changed that to "Any bass that isn't a 4-string Precision or Jazz", you'd have covered 95% of the posts in this thread. Quite depressing really.
 7. That's terrible, she did a bass solo. She's not allowed to do a bass solo. Everyone knows the bass isn't a solo instrument.
 8.
Yes, good idea. I've got a nice lump of wood I can screw to the side of the neck. Then I can add one of those single string bridges... mmmm you've got me thinking now. It does mean the top string would be fretless, but what the hell!?
I have a Wilkinson 4+1 I could sell you. That would do the job nicely.
 9.
The Audio Works UK is worth a look. They have a pretty good clearance list. Generally previous models being cleared out.
Eye-wateringly expensive though - eg. a clearance RCF ART 312A is £419 from them, the RCF ART 312A MK III is £350 from Thomann. Even worse for Mackie SRM3450 V2s. We use SRM450 V2s and think they sound fine, though maybe we have cloth ears.
 10.
Only if you ditch the gold hardware
And add another string.
 11.
14 ACGs ... do you have a group photo?
If you get a short enough exposure time, you should manage to get a photo between the arrival of number 14 and number 15.
 12. SInglecuts - I'd like to like them but I just can't. Headstocks. What a stupid, pointless waste of wood they are, unbalancing the bass and making it more likely you'll stick it in the singer's ear when you're playing or through the ceiling when you're taking it off and on. Especially those ludicrous Fender ones, twice as long as they need to be. I do have headed basses but I'd rather have headless, they make so much more sense. Fewer than 5 strings. I want more choice with my fingering.
 13. Personally, I think the Big Al looks foul, but it's something different and it's rather a shame to see it go.
 14.
Do I win?
Want!
 15. Tapewounds perhaps? Wanted to put Status tapewounds on the Sei but the unheadstock end didn't fit in the unheadstock.
 16.
So the price matter looks more down to age than pedigree... Interesting info though. Also it shows MIM is better than MIA, in the ears of the audience, on the day.
I thought it showed that the single most worthwhile improvement you can make to a P-bass is to put in a Seymour Duncan quarter-pounder. That would raise the total cost of the Gear4music one to about £135.
 17.
Most of the music I like (and a lot of the stuff I don't like) seems to have been recorded on either a Fender Precision or a Fender Jazz. From JJ Burnel to Alphonso Johnson and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich to Delbert McClinton. Seems to be the essence of the term Swiss Army Knife.
Especially since you can use them to knock in the tent pegs for the marquee.
 18. That's a nice job. I like the way you've shaped the body at the neck joint, shows you're thinking about it from a playing point of view and not just for the appearance.
 19.
Could you control the Pi gadget with a MIDI pedal? Admittedly you wouldn't have a display on it but you could probably program the lights to flash a bit of morse code to indicate settings
I presume so. QLC+ allows MIDI control, and that's how the guitarist controls it, using a Behringer FCB1010 via a M-Audio Midisport 2x2 into a Windoze laptop. Raspberry Pis are quite happy to read MIDI.
 20. You might be reinventing the wheel - there's a couple of bits of software available for the Raspberry Pi. Haven't looked properly at them as our guitarist does the DMX programming on a laptop. 21.
Wonder how many others take instruments with them on holiday and grab the chance to entertain.
I do - always take an acoustic guitar with me. Got to play at an open mic night at St Columb Major when Mrs Zero and I were in Kernow, and we'll try and get a little more organised next year and do a few more.
 22. Do you have to return it every time Nate Mendel knocks another chip off to bring it up to current spec?
 23.
All the ones I haven't heard will form my new "to buy" list. No-one mentioned any Van Der Graff Generator yet? Pawn Hearts then Edit: How can you possibly pick a "best"?!
You can't pick a "best" but it is useful for some listening suggestions.
 24.
Plenty of non bass players like a decent bass solo. I get applauded regularly by lay people
Yes, I find that when I play a bass solo, everyone applauds when I stop.
 25.
I think most people could get by. But, if you are much cop as a bass player, you might be thinking 'Hmm.. this isn't quite fitting the bill...'.
That's nothing to do with ability. It's GAS.
