I'm another who leaves a bit in reserve. The noise level on my amp and effects is sufficiently low that I don't feel the need to maximise the bass signal to reduce the noise level.

Procells for me.
Sorry Tauzero, you misunderstood my post, I know how the band came about the name, I'm querying the origins of the phrase itself.
How about http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/lead-balloon.html then?
Strange, a quick google and there is no information on the origin of th phrase. Bpnzodog, I don't buy your version,sorry. 4-string-thing, yes, but IF it did, it would come down brilliantly!
It's well-known. How about http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/1152-is-it-true-that-keith-moon-named-led-zeppelin/ ?
Ah, thanks. :-) As you can tell, I'm not a huge Queen fan. But I love that single (both sides!) :-)
At a bit of a tangent - have a listen to Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, there's some other tracks that I think you'd like (Nevermore and White Queen spring to mind).

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also looking forward to the next one, especially if there's cake. Conclusions: AT's deko PJ has made me feel I might actually like a PJ. RR's W&T has made me realise that the headstocks of NT and notlob W&Ts are different, and it's just the NTs that are disasters. Cake is nice. More cake. And biscuits. Many thanks, especially to those providing cakes. And biscuits.

There's a company which makes stick-on LED strips which fix to the top edge of the fretboard. Aha, this is the one: https://fretfx.com/ As Si600 says, there are stick-on fret markers which can be charged up with a UV torch. I had some and they worked but gradually fell off. Can't remember where I got them. You can also get the fret markers replaced by Luminlay dots. These are also glow-in-the-dark, charged up with a UV torch (for UV torches, look on That Ebay for "3 in 1 torch"). If you're feeling flush, there's Sims LEDs - http://www.simscustom.com/html/00leds.htm

I glance at the fretboard for position changes. I found LEDs were very useful for that. I mainly play fretless. It's a lined fretless but I had the fret markers moved to being on the fret positions, as I don't use the lines and it's a lot easier to work out where I'm going to with the markers there than with them in the conventional position.
Is there any advantage to go series rather than parallel or vice versa?
Given the option (so you need two sockets on the amp), it's theoretically better to connect one cab to one socket and the other to the other rather than daisy-chaining (it's not series, it's still parallel). The current getting to the second cab only has to get through one set of connectors for each cab, and there's no additional voltage drop for the second cab from having twice the current going through one cable as the other. Also, if something dreadful happens to one cab so the sockets become disconnected one to the other (not the most likely scenario), you'll just carry on at reduced volume. All this is theoretical - I'm perfectly happy running an amp with one speakon socket and daisy-chaining the cabs.

Naked Touch. God knows why the rest of us couldn't come up with a better name than that (our keyboardist's suggestion).
I always loved Lilly of the Valley, which was the B side of Now I'm Here by Queen. I haven't googled it, bit I don't think it was an album track.
It was on Sheer Heart Attack.
Also, anyone remember the T Rex's Solid Gold Easy Action B-side - Born to Boogie is the B-side but with a Christmas message from Marc Bolan at the start of the track.
Oh yes. "Hi this is Marc Bolan. I'd like to wish you a super funk Christmas and a ?golden? New Year". The B-side of Gary Glitter's single "Rock and roll" was "Rock and roll part 2", the side that finished up being the hit.

Don't know about the bridge, mine seems OK so haven't done anything with it. Jennifer (endorka) put replacement pickups in one - I think it was EMG 40Hz that she used.

Cool looking tuner - Anyone tried one?
Aren't people just seeding the auction title with words that people search for ? A bit like when you see 'not Ampeg, not Trace Elliot, etc ' in the title for a bass amp auction to draw people in who have searched for those makes ? It's sneaky !
And it backfires if I (as any sensible person would) put "-fender" into my search to exclude all Fenders. -
Yes, had pickups from them. They were very helpful.
Out of interest, which USB Host shield did you use - was it the Sparkfun one, the genuine Arduino one, or some other?
An Ebay special from deepest China. Just search ebay for "arduino usb host" and you'll find them for about £6 inc. I'm also going to experiment with a Chinese Arduino Due, which has the USB OTG host built in.

Right, this is my code. Note that displayNum displays the patch number on the connected computer - I want to rig up some sort of display for it:
#include <Usb.h> #include <usbhub.h> #include <usbh_midi.h> const int btnUp = 2; const int btnDn = 3; const int patchNumSw = 4; int patchNum = 0; int patchMax = 49; int valNumSw; static unsigned long lastBtnUp = 0; static unsigned long lastBtnDn = 0; unsigned long interruptTime; USB Usb; USBH_MIDI Midi(&Usb); void setup() { Serial.begin(115200); // Temporary till I get 7-segment display if (Usb.Init() == -1) { displayNum(88); while(1); // Halt } pinMode(btnUp, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(btnDn, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(patchNumSw, INPUT_PULLUP); attachInterrupt(0, interruptBtnUp, LOW); attachInterrupt(1, interruptBtnDn, LOW); sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } void loop() { int valNumSw = digitalRead(patchNumSw); if (valNumSw = HIGH) { patchMax = 49; } else { patchMax = 99; } } // Interrupt handlers for patch up and patch down // If interrupts come faster than 100ms, assume it's a bounce and ignore void interruptBtnUp() { interruptTime = millis(); if (interruptTime - lastBtnUp > 100) { if (patchNum < patchMax) { patchNum++; } else { patchNum = 0; } sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } lastBtnUp = interruptTime; } void interruptBtnDn() { interruptTime = millis(); if (interruptTime - lastBtnDn > 100) { if (patchNum > 0) { patchNum--; } else { patchNum = patchMax; } sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } lastBtnDn = interruptTime; } // Send "Program Change" MIDI message void sendMIDI(byte number) { Usb.Task(); if( Usb.getUsbTaskState() == USB_STATE_RUNNING ) { byte Message[2]; // Construct the midi message (2 bytes) Message[0]=0xC0; // 0xC0 is for Program Change (Change to MIDI channel 0) Message[1]=number; // Number is the program/patch (Only 0 to 99 is valid for ZOOM G3) Midi.SendData(Message); // Send the message delay(10); } } // Display the current patch number void displayNum(int number) { Serial.print("Patch "); // Temporary expedient Serial.println(number, DEC); // What I really want is pins 5-9 }
I haven't got any further notes on where I got information from. I also came up with a more sophisticated version (with more comments) which could scroll through either patches 1-50 for an MS60-B, or 1-100 for a B3. Well 0-49 and 0-99 probably.
// Control Zoom G3/B3 or MS-60B via USB MIDI // Based on https://github.com/vegos/ArduinoMIDI // Two momentary footswitches and one toggle/slide/latching button switch are required // Footswitches: patch up -> pin 2, patch down -> pin 3 // Switch on pin 4 - open circuit -> MS-60B, connected to ground -> G3/B3 // LED anode on pin 5 - indicates 100 patches // Or forget about toggling between them and set patchMax to 49 for MS-60B // or 99 for G3/B3, in which case loop should probably contain something like // delay(1000), as the processing is interrupt driven #include <Usb.h> #include <usbhub.h> #include <usbh_midi.h> const int btnUp = 2; const int btnDn = 3; const int patchNumSw = 4; const int patchNumInd = 5; int patchNum = 0; int patchMax = 49; int valNumSw; static unsigned long lastBtnUp = 0; static unsigned long lastBtnDn = 0; unsigned long interruptTime; USB Usb; USBH_MIDI Midi(&Usb); void setup() { Serial.begin(115200); // Temporary till I get 7-segment display if (Usb.Init() == -1) { displayNum(88); while(1); // Halt } pinMode(btnUp, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(btnDn, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(patchNumSw, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(patchNumInd, OUTPUT); attachInterrupt(0, interruptBtnUp, LOW); attachInterrupt(1, interruptBtnDn, LOW); sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } void loop() { // Check the state of the patch number switch int valNumSw = digitalRead(patchNumSw); if (valNumSw = HIGH) { patchMax = 49; digitalWrite(patchNumInd, LOW); } else { patchMax = 99; digitalWrite(patchNumInd, HIGH); } delay(1000); // Main loop is going to whiz round otherwise } // Interrupt handlers for patch up and patch down // If interrupts come faster than 100ms, assume it's a bounce and ignore void interruptBtnUp() { interruptTime = millis(); if (interruptTime - lastBtnUp > 100) { if (patchNum < patchMax) { patchNum++; } else { patchNum = 0; } sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } lastBtnUp = interruptTime; } void interruptBtnDn() { interruptTime = millis(); if (interruptTime - lastBtnDn > 100) { if (patchNum > 0) { patchNum--; } else { patchNum = patchMax; } sendMIDI( patchNum ); displayNum( patchNum ); } lastBtnDn = interruptTime; } // Send "Program Change" MIDI message void sendMIDI(byte number) { Usb.Task(); if( Usb.getUsbTaskState() == USB_STATE_RUNNING ) { byte Message[2]; // Construct the midi message (2 bytes) Message[0]=0xC0; // 0xC0 is for Program Change (Change to MIDI channel 0) Message[1]=number; // Number is the program/patch (Only 0 to 99 is valid for ZOOM G3) Midi.SendData(Message); // Send the message delay(10); } } // Display the current patch number void displayNum(int number) { Serial.print("Patch "); // Temporary expedient Serial.println(number, DEC); // What I really want is more pins. Although I could just about do this with a 4551 // and pins 5-9 and one other (0 or 1). Take cathode of digit 1 to pin 0 and cathode // of digit 2 to pin 9. Also, at top, have // const int cathode1 = 0; // const int cathode2 = 9; // Then // // digitalWrite(cathode1, HIGH); // digitalWrite(cathode2, HIGH); // // digit1 = patchNum / 10; // digit2 = patchNum % 10; // // for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) { // pin = i + 5; // if (digit1 & 1 = 1) // { // digitalWrite(pin, HIGH) // } // else // { // digitalWrite(pin, LOW) // } // digit1 = digit1 >> 1; // } // // digitalWrite(cathode1, LOW); // delay(100); // digitalWrite(cathode1, HIGH); // // for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) { // pin = i + 5; // if (digit2 & 1 = 1) // { // digitalWrite(pin, HIGH) // } // else // { // digitalWrite(pin, LOW) // } // digit2 = digit2 >> 1; // } // // digitalWrite(cathode2, LOW); // delay(100); // digitalWrite(cathode2, HIGH); }
No laughing at my code please.

The Telegraph story is crap. Bass is misidentified and they've shown the worst photos, so it is rather difficult to tell what's going on. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/idiot-driver-pictured-playing-guitar-5634008 Much better photos. It's definitely not a Warwick. And he is driving.

I'll dig the program out tonight. I think I've put references to where I got the information into comments in the code.

In the posted example where the drummer moves ahead of or behind the beat, it just sounds to me like he's realised they're playing too slow or too fast and he's trying to alter the tempo, and because they're prerecorded loops they're not paying any attention to him.
