1. "The bass part is, in fact, the foundation upon which the melody rests and without which there could be no melody." That'll do for me.
2. Ive had one of these for about 5years. Brilliant, solid, portable and surprisingly loud. And that's a very good price. GLWTS Cheers Geoff
3. I finally caught up with dood's youtube channel last night. He's got some fab reviews on there if you have some time to spare.
4.
I've done lots of successful DIY refinishes, only pictures on here are this, which I've now realised I need to update with some completed pictures, albeit very late. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227483-variax-make-over/
I'm sorry id not seen that thread before. Your work is top notch, and your choice of pale cream is sublime. Very nicely done indeed. Cheers Geoff
5. Another TE head. Easiest option if you need a quick swap, with the same settings you are good to go.
6.
Not sure about that, maybe somebody else can help, all I know is that it's as loud as my GB Streamliner 900 through a BF Retro six10.
If I may, it'll be 300 watts with an extension cab (4 ohm load total). Prob about 200watts into the combo alone (8 ohm). Make no mistake, these are extremely loud amps for their ratings.
7. The AH200 series 6 is a corker of an amp. Mine is sufficiently loud enough for anything ive needed, great eq options, very quiet and high quality DI, and itself weighs about 8kg. Also its fanless, so no disturbance at low levels. And don't forget the headphone output. GLWTS.
8.
I'm thinking of getting Alex at Barefaced to knock me up one of these: Not suitable for lead guitar though.
Hmmm dispersion could be an issue... Of one's innards lol
9.
[sub]Ah, Gladys. Of course. Astonishing. She showed me some slapping once and I couldn't sit down for a week.[/sub]
Yep, she was one hell of a slapper, that's for sure.
10. The best cabs are black. There's loads of them in London.
11.
This one:
I have GAS (Gorilla Acquisition Syndrome)
12.
I have had it about 2 months, I don't know how long the guy I bought from had it for. It is in a flight case and in very good nick though so assume it has been well looked after. Any recommendations on a replacement valve?
Mine had a 12ax7 (ECC83) valve in it. They are widely available online, watford valves is one option, or hotrox. There's a few guys on here that dabble in them too and would be able to give some good advice. I think Mr Foxen is one of them.
13. It should light up all the time the amp is switched on. Sounds like it may need replacing. They usually last a long time though, how old is the amp? Has it had a hard life, or been looked after?
14. Those CA9 amps are quite special. The design, build quality and engineering are second to none. The sound quality isn't too shabby either. Ive never owned one, but have used them before, and seen under the hood. Top notch in every way.
15. I cant tell from my puny mobile phone screen, but what are the output tap impedance options? 2, 4, 8 ohms?
16. I had one of these excellent amps. Sounds like the valve is either dead or needs reseating firmly in its holder. Time to open her up...
17. Corking amps, and a corkingly good deal there with rack bag and footswitch... GLWTS
18.
Robert Fripp wears Ray Davies's old glasses, because he likes to play with Kink rims on.
I read this earlier today and I'm still smiling about it. A gold star for you...
19. One. Because he's the only one in the band who brought a backup bulb.
20.
...the only U2 single actually produced by Alfred Hitchcock
He also produced The Byrds.
21.
With over 135,000 views, this topic reaches places other topics can only dream about.
If Carlsberg made topics... Etc etc
22. Id have to agree with Discreet. Assuming the cab design is suitable, then those Kappalites are pretty formidable. Ive been using their 15 inch ones for about 5 years.
23.
Unfortunately not, the BVT now enjoys a new life as an item of furniture in the dining room of Lozz196. There's nothing wrong with the BVT, but the SVT is just more 'Ampeggy', unsurprisingly.
Fair do's. I guess it would make a great coffee table if nothing else.
24. Thanks for another interesting read Discreet. Have you moved the BVT on yet, or is there still time for a detailed a/b comparison? Cheers Geoff
