1. I'm extremely impressed with this. At the age of 14 I built my first variable voltage power supply. Soon after it was 555 counters with led displays. That was 36 years ago mind you lol. Now I stick to fixing my heavy old Trace amps when they fail, which is very rare. Looking forward to the finished product. Cheers Geoff
2.
Are you sure? I would have thought that the extension cab is in parallel with the internal speaker. Sometimes where literature states max 8 ohms they refer to "maximum load" which equates to minimum impedance. This can lead to confusion.
The extension is in series with the internal driver. Hence the specified max 8 ohm extension speaker impedance, as opposed to a minimum rating for the usual parallel situation. Its an unusual setup for sure.
3. Sounds like the guitarists were on 11/10 into the crowd hence why even the drummer could not be heard. Also, do you have a pic of your Trace GP7 SMX? That's a new one on me, I thought they were all GP12. Cheers Geoff
4. An interesting point is that the extension cab sits in series with the combo, so the recommended MAX impedance is 8ohms. This is contrary to most situations where they are wired in parallel, and the MIN impedance is 8ohms generally.
5. I see. I don't think I was expecting to see the pole look so flimsy, that's all. Hence why I mistook it for the bass overflow lol
6. They look great. What is that overflow pipe sticking out of the rear port?
7.
Don't you like this branch..?
Ive been framed...
8. Trace Elliot have just released the 'Backbreaker'...
9.
Anyway, I've been using Yorkshire tea-bags for some time now though if Tetley are on special offer I'll go with them. Both are full-bodied with a robust flavour.
Yes but are they any good for Metal?
10.
I have a couple of Dubsters (Barefaced), bought new a few years ago - used with class D Crown XLS and/or Ormats - it would take a lot to get me to go anywhere else............
A pair of Dubsters?? Holy moly that must be able to rearrange internal organs, after having knocked down the venue walls.
11. Those Rumble combos get lots of attention, but I rarely see anything of any substance about the heads. What's your take on it? Cheers Geoff
12. I found one of our drummers in a skip. I later found out why...
13.
I had a PM from Martin Gordon around 3 years ago. I mention on a thread here that my old covers band had supported Jet back in the '70's at a gig in Dunoon and he wanted to know what my memories of it were. He said he was writing a book and would give me a credit if he used anything I told him. I wasn't much help as I was mostly off my tits back then and my memory was poor.
God I wish I had stories like that to tell. Cracking post, Sir.
14. Well I drive a Peugeot, but unfortunately it has rarely taken my breath away. Even in Berlin. Disgruntled from Sussex.
15.
The delivery has arrived today, and they've sent me a complete new electronic, including the control plate. Big up for Thomann! @dave_bass5 thank you so much for the picture. Maybe the washers are just added to keep all the pots at a nice even height?
Blimey, well done Thomann. Now that is what I call service. Cheers Geoff
16.
Niggles? Blue
Niggles = 'something not quite right, that is bothering me' Geoff
17.
I don't want a funeral... I want to be fly tipped in a hedge down the side of the M6...
Now that's just zany...
18. Indeed. Nothing less than 15 inches here as well. Sometimes two of them, but usually just the one. My fave driver is the Kappalite 3015 which ive been using for the past 6 years.
19.
And.....stolen. thanks 😉👍
I'm just relieved you didn't buy a Roland, Roland. Ahem... Comprehensive and informative review, btw.
20. They are awesome. Brilliant little tube amps.
21. Note to self: Visit more charity shops!
22.
In the early days of solid state amps a few designs would go into oscillation (like feedback/howlround but electronically, inside the electronics) If no load was connected they'd overheat and break in this state. My Exposure hi fi amp warns about this. I haven't seen that for a long time but I wonder if Orange are simply being careful, a bit like the 'may contain traces of nuts' warnings.
Well, the TB certainly contains some balls.
