1. Hey folks, Just thought I'd share with you a little info/review of my current rig as it's been a bit of a quest to get to this point! First off, some background info on myself: I'm a pro bass player who has moved to Melbourne from Glasgow 4 months ago and have been gradually getting more and more involved in the scene here, which is awesome! I had to sell my rig back home to fund my travels, which was an Aguilar DB750 and an Epifani UL410, which was tough but worth it! I purchased both the Genz Benz Shuttle 6 and the Eden 112XLT from the Ozbass forum (like basschat but not as active) and recently added a brand new Eden EX112 courtesy of the guys at Bass Centre, Melbourne. Coming from an all valve beast I was sceptical about this small and lightweight setup, but I have been thouroughly impressed so far. I've used it on a coupla gigs and a reh so far and it's filled each room with ease. You don't get the 'wall of thunder' you get with a massive head and a power hungry 410, but it's not far away. I run the head pretty much flat with the exception of the 'smiley face' eq curve button depressed and do any tonal adjustments from the bass. Having recently restrung courtesy of Naked Strings the bottom end is thick and strong, while I find myself have to attenuate the highs but turning down the tweeter on the XLT. I can recommend this rig for people who have issues with space and money but still need a high powered, flexible and toneworthy rig. here are some pics, if you're interested I will try and do some recording for you guys to hear the capabilities. Cheers! Craig
2. This is the exact same bass I play and it caused me to sell my warwick dolphin, marcus 4 and sadowsky metro 5. I got the J retro too. It can be set up to play however suits you and the sounds are all there. The only thing I'd say is that the price is possibly a little steep, i got mine for £850 delivered ex demo. Of course there is the cost of the J retro but still, it's now 2nd hand as well. It's quite possibly THE best Jazz 5 string you will ever play. Don't sell it!!! Craig
3. Hi Jake, I'm sure I speak for some of the members here in saying that your request is a little bit lazy! Learning tunes and writing out charts is just something that comes with the function band territory mate. There are lots of resources online that can help you out with chord charts etc; Also, working it out for yourself will really help you internalise the tunes faster instead of relying on the hard work of other bass players. Not having a dig mate, just my opinion having been in the same position myself and being told the same thing, I learned a valuable lesson that ultimately improved me as a musician. Good luck! Craig
4. Aye, whit's the hampden roar with this FU? Any you guys got star sunglasses and an inherent knowledge 'the one'...?
5. Actually kinda liked that! Bit Zappaesque and some cool bass playing for sure! Nice one! C
6. I own one! It's became my main axe, sold my Sadowsky and Warwick Dolphin because of it! I got a J retro installed in it tho, but it still rocks in passive mode. This is a fantastic price for an underrated and realatively overlooked bass! Good luck with the sale and whoever buys it will be very happy!! C
7.
this is an old video, infact we dont even play this song anymore but hey! heres another: sound quality is not the best on the second one. ES
Bangin mate! Would love to hear these recorded all proper n shiney like!
8. Hi Mike, I might be wrong, but it seems like the timing, especially near the start, wanders a little when using this technique? I am by no means trying to bag you out, and I'm a fan of lots of players who use this kinda picking, but it reminds me of what vic says 'when I learn a technique, I try and make music with it'. Which by default would imply being locked into the groove, which your example doesn't quite do I don't think. I don't you to be offended by this! I was just curious as to why you would post an example how people could use a specific technique when said example is somewhat flawed..? Cheers! Craig
9. And in that pic I think she's playing a Ken Smith...!

11.
Well, MB cabs are famous of their midrangey sound, so the problem must be somewhere else. Try lifting cab up, or tilting it back.. EQ'ing also helps - you don't want to fill your sound with lots of bass and low mids.
Why would you not want your bass to have bass and low mids exactly...?! I have to say Faithless, I find many of your posts antagonistic, flippant and overly opinionated. This is meant to be a community whereby we can help and inform each other, not not argue with and dictate to... Rgds, Craig
12. I'm guessing by 'Baccaruda' you mean Barracuda...
13.
I am a recording engineer for a living and I will later on come back with some beauties from when I was getting started... I think the difference between mine and yours is that my clients still to this day know nothing of my errors. :-)
But I do.....
14. Oh... really??! I reckon the TC would be a step down from that rig mate... Only was it to go DB750 and epifani UL410 like some made other Scottish bass player i know....
15. Oh, except this guy: http://freebasspart.pv24.pagesperso-orange...ass_Players.htm and this guy: http://www.stefanredtenbacher.com/transcriptions/ and maybe this guy: http://www.stevieglasgow.com/transcriptions_e.html Johnny has a few FREE transcriptions too: http://www.johnnycopland.com/ .....
16. Pick - I think you'll find Matt actually said that it was other people who were making mistakes, not you. And seeing as pretty much nobody here has a site that has as many transcriptions as you, it looks like you win. Congratulations, we are humbled....
17. Many congrats Dood! To share such a great publication with the might Larry Graham must be a pretty proud moment! Can you tell us some more about the band with Mr Lang? Craig
18. I reckong this http://bassmusicianmagazine.com/magazine/in-this-issue-2/ is the best one. And it's free!!
19. DON'T DO IT!!!! you will not find a better head than the db750 for the same or less money.
20. I know this bass....! What's up?? c
21. Agreed!! Still, crap way to be treated after 2yrs of loyal service like.... c
lol Aye but he needed the practice mate! lol C.
22. I agree. But a cautionary tale.... I was 'replaced' from my last functions band because I spoke up about the over-rehearsing we were doing. The band was run by the drummer (who was also the lead singer...don't ask) and we had a bunch of rehearsals at the end of last year to learn new material for an Xmas run we had coming up in a Hotel. Fair enough. The guitarists writes out charts in the appropriate keys, I have a blast over the basslines before rehearsal so I know the vibe and we can pretty much play it 2nd time thru. However, we play the songs over and over again so that the drummer can get used to playing and singing them....I don't appreciate my time being wasted because of someone elses shortcomings. Turns out when we did the gigs we didn't even end up using HALF the material we practiced, the drummer was calling out the songs.... Come January I get a call saying he wants to book some rehearsals to learn new songs before the first gig. So I told him I wasn't keen to do another 12hrs of rehearsing for material we might not use when I am more than capable of turning up and playing the tune off the chart on the night. Heck, if you give me enough notice I'll even learn it note for note off the record at home. Not a word for 6weeks, I log onto the band website and find out they have done a showcase without me... did one more gig and I wasn't guaranteed anymore work so I had to look elsewhere. Which is what they had been doing for 4 weeks without telling me they were looking for a bass player :| That said, I found another band pretty quick that were much more fun to play with, no rehearsals, (I got an email with the setlist and I went over tunes I didn't know before 1st gig) and still just as tight. Say your piece man, I'm glad I did, why should we have to waste our time at the expense of other peoples shortcomings as a musician? There are ways to keep everyone happy, some people aren't willing to change however... Craig
