Where abouts in Lincs are you? if you can make it to my place, I'll take you through a full set up, explain it to you (if you need it) and do any bits that are beyond you.... Cant say better than that can you? Cost? One beer!

Acrylic or manmade over cellulose is fine. Acrylic over acrylic is fine. Cellulose over acrylic is bad. So unless you are using cellulose lacquer- go ahead you'll be fine.... make sure its uber clean and flat. maybe wet and dry teh surface to key the new lacquer but theres little need to strip it, infact you'll make yourself a 5hit load of work doiing that!

BJ, All good sugestions above. SD, Dims and Schaller, (and my favorite Barts) will all offer you 'off the shelf' upgrades to your output. Wizards I agree would be a huge leap forward for you as you can disscuss your spec with them and they can custom wind them... That being said, I havent found the need after discovering Barts......
We would like to invite everyone who has posted a comment here to a real conversation regarding the issues they have raised. Our opening hours are 10am - 7pm monday to saturday and 11am - 5pm on sunday. We will be happy to dicuss these matters with you all and explain in detail the reasoning behind each of our policies. We are sorry to see a small proportion of our 200,000 plus customers each year feel they have received bad customer service, we welcome all feedback both negative and positive. Yours sincerely, The Bass Cellar.
Whilst I find it intriguing that someone (it would appear on face value) has had the decency to post a repsonse of sorts, it sadly means nothing without entering into an open dialogue and identifing who has posted it. Is this one of the staff or somone in a position of authority? I have no desire to pick fault at what has been put, however there is a HUGE ill feeling towards the place on here, and that post above does nothing to alay those concerns. IN fact in some ways it goes to re-inforce teh arrogance several on here have felt and voiced concerns about. I amongst others have had a less than favourable experience at this shop, and it is a common thread throghout this post. If you are in a position of authority, come back on and promise us that you will address concerns that your staff are uninterested and the shop is not as well orgnsed as it could and should be. THEN and maybe ony then we may give BC a second chance. I would genuinely like to know from where your figures of 200 000 customers comes from and considering that we have 3.5k members on tihs forum and there is little or no positive feedback on here about BC I would say that that is a pretty huge proportion of the UK bass playing public. I wanted (and in some way still do) the BC to be a 'WOW' inspiring place, a bass mecca if you like... its Tin Pan Alley FWIW. Maybe new staff or an injection of new ethics or training into the existing staff would help, but without those re assurances the post above is meaningless. Whilst I again find the sugestion that we should come and voice our complaints in person to whom shoul;d we address them? ..... I invite you to address them on here.... come on, there is a 3.5k audience here. ALL OF US OWN AND PLAY BASSES! -
Depends on wether you are happy to drill new holes. A quick trawl round a few guitar parts websites should tell you what is a direct replacement and what needs new holes. I know the Hipshot does not fit the fender 5 holes.
Not so my freind , Hippy do a drop on replacment if you dont fancy plugging and re drilling..... check thier webby....

I personally think its a huge shame... PREMIER location and rep (for the place, its Tin Pan Alley for flooks sake!) and a shop full of 1/2 decent stock, just staffed by untermench and absolutely 'no vision management.....' Crying shame.... -
portable or big studio types? I have a micro br that works pretty well!

Gotoh, Hippy, Schaller & BA are all better than teh std one.
Ah 200,000 since they opened ......!
Judging by the dust on some of the basses when I went there last I would be gobsmacked if they have 200.000 human cells through their doors let alone paying whole human customers!! -
errrrmm not sure what you've done eith your insert but it looks like DOS to me.... Aaaaaahhhh you sorted it while I was typing....

Hummmmn not thought of PTFE --- Might work.... Certainly worth a try if you have some lying around. If not Loctite 577 is the one you want. Clean the threads (internal and external with tissue or coton bud) then use a SMALL drop of 577 before assembly to "nearly" the right place. Fine tweak when the loctite has dried.

Its worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it. They are more expnsive now than they were due to a price hoyk by Ric, but as to 2ndhand values...... How long is a piece of string. It seems a bit on the dear side to me, but Rics are not around 2ndhand frequently so there are a lot of variables to add into the mix of valuing. There is a serial number decoder on the Ric site that should help you age and model it....! Good luck.
