Is that sutton as in sutton in ashfield? I might give neil from nscustoms a shout too, see what he can do for me. Any idea on prices? Without being a bit too adventurous for my first build, i'd really like a figured maple top on an ash or mahogany body... Shouldn't be too hard should it?
I think you'll find that is Sutton in Surrey........... Anyone south of Watford gap doesnt know there that S-I-A even exists....... Me however have had some truly excellent times in that part of the world as I played Hockey fo Mansfield for the best part of 20 yrs....
Well just so you know, I was charged a total of £50 for the routing and installation (bar electronics) plus 'the shielding', and I seem to remember them quoting £30 or £35 for just the routing - I wouldn't bat an eyelid at spending that. A typical solution for the controls is to side-mount the jack socket and install an extra pot for volume/blend, but I'm not entirely certain of the logistics of that given that the socket hole is larger than a pot mounting hole.
Its actually a piece of pish if you take your time and use the correct wood bit. I've done a few now.... having all that extra space in teh cavity is bliss! the latest one I've done..... The tapping noise ^^^ on the 1st fret should equate to about .005" which is about right, unless you attack your strings with a Patriot missile as a plectrum in which case .005-010" is in order! If you read Dan Erlewines way it is much more complex but ends up about teh same as teh above short cut method (which I use too!)

I'll bet that growls with 2 SDs in place.....! Nice job....!

Having lost a close friend and family member recently I know exactly how this feels. Words mean nothing and the world stops for a short time. I hope for all those that were close to Steve that they find new normal without him, I know its been hard for me but it is starting to happen. My condolencies to those close to him, and remember the good times.

Removing dings and scratches with a cloth and an iron?
The Burpster replied to Dubs's topic in Repairs and Technical
Damp cloth + hot iron = removal of dings? I’ve heard many people recommend this as a way of removing light dings and scratches from natural finished instruments but has anyone got any experience with it?
Yes, I have lots of experience with gunstocks doing exactly that. Damp cloth for a few seconds then while its still steaming put the iron over the area ON A PIECE OF BROWN PAPER. The paper spreads the heat sligthly and if your gonna scorch anything it wil be the paper 1st. It also allows you to use a hotter iron. KEEP the iron moving in small circular motion round the dent with a ligth pressure. The harder the wood the hotter the iron and more pressure you need. Just finished a Beretta shotgun stock about 2 weeks ago and the owner got top dollar in p/ex for it......... It can be done with patience. -
Gets a big WOW from me.... Wonderful sound. Frankly what it looks like is irrelevant when it sounds like that! Tres bon monsiuer, c'est magnifique!
You'd think i'd just insulted your own child or something. Chill out.
So you dont find it irritating when someone that doesnt own, hasnt owned or doesnt even desire to own a particular object slags it off without any foundaton? Sorry but I do..... If you'd owned 5 and they'd all been dud, then maybe your OPINION would have some credibilty. I would be gobsmacked if you got any other response from any other of the owenrs of less than 'run of the mill' basses on here if you'd put that post about say; a Vigier or Shuker, Ritter, Modulus,Steinberger, Status ......etc.... Either point out that it is merely your opinion based on not owning any, or prferably keep it yourself until you have some foundation on which to base it, please.
Always been curious about PRS basses..... I am a huge fan of their guitars. My friend has a CU22 Artist and it is the nicest playing guitar I have ever picked up. One of the guitarists in my band is using a CU22 which is gorgeous, our other guitarist used to use a Jonny Hiland signature and is in the market for another PRS now. However having never heard a PRS bass or even seen one in the flesh they are a rather unknown quantity......
Next local bass bash that I can get to I'll bring one of mine. I've extolled thier virtues enough and I dont want to sound boring but think CU22, but 4 string and you'll not be far wrong. I've found that if you want to keep a hifi sound you need to keep the batteries fresh, I like to let them get rid of that peak and then the flatwounds sound gorgeous. As to the Grainger 5 string above, I made enquiries about getting one. They wanted a deposit of $6k and the balance would be worked out after I had told them what I want. I may treat myself when I retire in 5 years time but thats a lot of money for a bass!

Heres a huge bargain...... (its the less powerful version but its a steal at this price......) I like the look, its feels classy to me. That being said I have basses with no markers and std markers and birds but no assymetric markers. It would definately not put me off buying one!

Andy I love mine , I have one of these..... http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P6...amp;dir=catalog It was F+++ing dear but is still 100% after 10 years.... Its HIGHLY portable relaible HUGE heat range and verastile. There are cheaper versions of the similar thing avaialable by other makers that will do a similar job without teh Snap-On relialbility so do some shopping. Electric are very cheap (in thier favour) but they are tied to a mains socket, normally one wattage (unless more expensive) and changing tips is time consuming and v.difficult when hot....
Im not really sure about getting a new neck, I kinda like the I've got. I want the bass to be the same bass, but without frets.
Yep me too. 100% with you. I'm looking for another PRS IV so that I can send the neck to them and have as a lined fretless. PRS aren't geared up to do this for me, or supply a new fretless neck for less than $2k But thier custom paint and repair luthier recommended those guys.....

There should be a load of different types of nozzles in the cap of the aerosol can of butane. Try a few to get the best fit, hold it upside down, one long press unitl it feeel like its spurting out and stop. I find it hard to use and electric one now. Been using gas for 10yrs.
