Please recommend me some tapewounds
The Burpster replied to markdavid's topic in Accessories and Misc
Well I'm using GHS Nylons (45-100) but I'm sorry I dont know where they are availlable here, I get mine sent over from the US of A Much much prefer them to the Rotos. -
BJ, After my experiences with accoustics, two things I would suggest are huge consideration points. 1, just find one that you enjoy playing.... at that price range they may not have great actions so are not dead easy to play.... and 2. dont buy it on the assumption that it will have enough volume or abilty to match it with an accoustic guitar. It wont unitl you plug it in! So you need to buy one that you like the feel of and are happy playing and that sounds how you expect an accoustic to, plugged in. I ended up with what would be classed as a semi, as big bodied basses just wouldnt keep up with my guitarists 6 string...

I'll be there on iether thurs or sat. I guess it'll be Sat 'cos my guitarist is in Lunnun for the weekend, and I cant get friday!
Anyway it reduces cable handling noise - the interference type noise you can get from moving a cable - triboelectric effect - by dissipating the charge which builds up ( basic explanation ). High impedances mean much more susceptible to this than line or mic impedances where the use of cotton and other fillers to maintain the position of the cores is considered adequate.
Also its much more important for all of our signal to get thru, whereas lets face its just not that important for most vocalists is it.....?

Hi Nino, Dont give up the day job..... No, seriously dont give it up! That's is a beautiful piece of work! Welcome!
Burpster im only going through a Behringer BX 900, 90 watt, nothing else. What else do i need. I have to play (for a while..) through head phones because of people im living with so its essential i get a good sound. I can only pressume its the amp or the headphones, as i have a lurvely Jazz. What do you think?? Could i go through a drum machine??? By the way money no object as long as its erm... £150.00 or under..
Hummn know where your coming from. Behringer....... Could be your problem.... I'm not keen on them, DOESNT mean they are no good....! just not as good as other equipment. I'm using Bose Tri-port in ears which are £70 ish but you get to send them back if you dont like them! I would be very surprised if you dont! http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertain...hones/index.jsp Try them first (if you can tolerate in ears) as these are superb because they have a port which allows ambient air in.... excellent idea if you want to hear the fone, door bell, burgulars etc.... It maybe that your beringer is teh weak link and purely for practice the Tascam BT-MP 1 takes some beating as not only does it have some excelllent features it allows you to jam along to your fave music. That is the set up I'm using at the minute- Tascam+ Bose I have also several sets of Shure in-ears and a set of in-ear monitors also a Boss Micro Br, of all of these the above set up is teh quickest and best reproduction.

If its waterslide then yes... Its slightly more sophisticated these days, you can buy the slide sheet in A4 size and print your own using your PC.. But essentially big Airfix sets..... Oh Aye, dont forget teh tongue... its essential!

Robert... Trouble with 'tracing round a body' is that unless its a naked body and the operator of the drawing object is very good you could get allsorts of variables. Might I suggest you have a look at the 8th one down on this page? http://guitar-parts-and-spares-uk.com/inde...et=d493_12.html MUCH more accurate way of doing it.... IMHO. and good luck..

OK.... (years of modelling experience coming thru...!) waterslide transfers need to be applied onto a clean (no dust) fingermark and greasefree surface. Take some time doing this as one piece of dust can ruin the whole effect. soak the transfer in shallow warm water unitl it seprates from the backing paper, and carefully lift it out of the water with flat faced tweazers. hold vertical over a piece of KITCHEN towel with the lower end just touching it to soak any excess water from it. hold over your bass the same way (vertical) and slowly roll it onto teh surface from the dangling end unitl it is in place (this needs to be thought about before application). Once in place gently apply a rolling pressure to it with the kitchen towel enusring you are rolling out any trapped water NOT pressing it in to place. Once in place leave it at least overnight at room temperature to harden and dry. Dont rush it. Once dry you can either spray pver the whole transfer with Acrylic laquer or carefully (depending upon your skill with a paint brush) paint a band 5-6mm wide all around the outside edge of teh transfer to seal the edges. Complete overspaying with the appropriate laquer is the method that gives teh best results tho'

Errrrm minefield...... What amp are you playing thru? Do you have a practice set up (Boss micro or Tascam) And you prefer over ear- on ear- or in ear types? need to know all this stuff first, as well as whats your budget...? nosey I know, but it makes a HUGE difference!
plus the one...neutrik jacks and van damme cable...i've got two that have lasted me about 10 years.
Neutrik plugs (silent switched at bass end) Van Damme, or Klotz cable. You do not need a £40 Whirlwind lead (My guitarist and I have tried his Whirlwind and my Neutrik/Klotz/Neutrik lead B2B and there is NO difference). FWIW I have just bought some components to make up some leads from Dave (OBBM). TBH his cost passed on for making them is minimal and the components DO actually make up the cost of the leads. (I know I tried getting them all from elsewhere!) I'm not blowing sunshine out of Daves backside, but the products he produces for the cost he's making them available at, are unbeatable!!! Dont bother looking elsewhere if you cant make them yourself. -
I'm running Firefox on Ubuntu Linux - no problem downloading files like that, either using "Save As", or the "DownThemAll" plugin I have installed. What browser are you using? You can't blame this on Linux itself... I didn't know you could get QuickTime on Linux, but if I had it, I would rip it out it, if it's anything like as awful as QuickTime on Windows.
I'm using Firefox 2 on Mac OS 10.3.9. the link you posted will only work as a link and I cannot find a target to download. QT is a good application that works well in Mac OS and FF.
Can you not right-click / 'save target as' in Linux?
No it only gives me the link as an option not teh target..... sadly....

I've had a quick twang with one in a shop, and they are pretty good VFM. Dont expect wonderful results from what it a cheap on borad pre-amp, but otherwise they are noce to play and very capable of being set up to play very well. See this thread for a recent batch of opinions of others in teh similar price bracket. And welcome aboard! Thank you all, I'm being sent it as a file in an email thanks... the links you posted above (thanks) just open up a player in Quicktime, from which I have too high a protection level to download them as shareware or seperate MP3 files. I had my bank account hacked into a few years ago and now only use Linux based software. Thanks for your efforts tho' bob.
