  1. I gave up when I went to try an amp in my local shop and they refused to match their own online price! It was a fair difference £500 v £620 so I went home and bought online. When I got it it didn't work so had to go back. They said I couldn't take it to the shop or to their warehouse (2 miles away from me where it had to go back to) and had to go via the returns process. So they paid three lots of carriage on it - no longer in business unsurprisingly!
  2. I met him that sort of time as well - Earls Court maybe?? - really nice guy. I never did get one of his basses although they were on the list. Sad loss.
  3. I recently went to see Pontus Snibb's Wreck of Blues and thought they were great - a feast of tasty licks (I read that once). If you don't know Pontus he's a Swedish guy who is the guitarist in rock band Bonafide and sometime drummer in Jason & the Scorchers.
  4. I've got one. It's a fretless that I never played (because it's fretless!) so I stuck a spare Mighty Mite P neck that I had lying around on it. Plays OK but I've never really used it since swapping the necks as I just prefer Precisions.
  5. In these situations I always recommend a bit of Stephen Amazing - starts just after 2:00 - and played with a plec!
  6. My favourite is Absolutely by Boxer featuring Tim Bogert on bass.
  7. I had the same problem with SC & GK Fusion. I used to play with a band who were way too loud and refused to use monitors so I had to turn right up to hear myself and still couldn't. In the end I bit the bullet and bought a second Super Compact. That did the job and I'm still using the 2 cabs. Mind they don't move the air that my old Ampeg 410 does with the same amp. Unfortunately I struggle to get that in & out of the car these days so Super Compacts it is.
  8. My favourite is Slack Babbath. They're quite good though.
  9. They always say that - just forget - then buy another one. Works for me 😉 Personally I would sell the Warwick as a P, a J & a Stingray are essential. Difficult decision - good luck!
  10. Sweet Child o' Mine I bought the Appetite for Destruction album when it first came out never having heard the band before. On first listen through I quite liked the album but commented to my girlfriend that I really didn't like that one song. The opening riff instantly irritated me. I can't believe that over 30 years later I still hear the song on a seemingly weekly basis - radio, TV, live bands... I can't get away from it!! Honourable mention to Blue Monday as well. There are also plenty of previously mentioned songs that I used to like but can't listen to anymore through over exposure. Often they are ones I have had to play live for years - eg Sweet Home Alabama, Alright Now etc etc
  11. Me too. First I looked Hanoi Rocks ish then, when my hair grew, I looked like Ian Astbury. In fact he was once mistaken for me!! True story
  12. There's one for sale round here - second hand and standard - for a bargain £170!!
  13. I get where you're coming from. I used to love any sunburst but now seem to have an instant dislike for it. I still own a MIJ Sunburst P bass but I never play it as I prefer the Capri Orange or the Ice Blue Metallic one! I click on ads for basses then straight off if it's any sunburst (not just tobacco). Don't understand it myself as I really did like them.
  14. I like that. I came very close to buying a very nice looking one in Shoreline Gold a few years ago. I went for a G&L instead (which I still have) but always wonder if it was the right decision - one of many that got away.
  15. I used a Marshall guitar head 25 years ago - an early 70s Artiste through a similar vintage White 4x12 with 25 Watt Celestions - it shifted some air! It was all bottom end, very little treble. Amazingly the speakers live on in a friend's Marshall 4x12 to this day.
  16. I almost bought Vanderkleys before going for the Barefaced. The main reason I didn't was the appearance - I just can't get away from the fact they remind me of early 90s budget brand Custom Sounds albeit to a somewhat higher standard! Appearance wise my favourites are probably some of the custom TKS cabs (I seriously considered your red ones because I liked the colour!) but from reading countless reviews the Barefaced seemed to be the better bet for my needs at the time and Alex was very helpful.
  17. I looked similar in my younger days. In the early 90s I had just sold a house and the proceeds were sitting in my bank account so I went into a local music shop and asked to try a Warwick Thumb that I'd had my eye on for a while. He got it down, did a minute of the obligatory slap then handed it over. I asked if he could plug it into an amp but he declined saying I couldn't afford it. I went down the road and found a nice Ibanez Musician which I still have and I haven't bought anything in the first shop since that day.
  18. How about this one - I used to play it many years ago - one note all the way
  19. Maybe not exactly the most bizarre of collaborations but one where all of the musicians or their bands have been mentioned previously was The Rockers. They comprised of Phil Lynott, Roy Wood, Chas Hodges and John Coghlan and recorded one single - a medley of old rock 'n' roll tunes. The video features a different drummer - looks like Bev Bevan I think.
  20. A band I would love to see but can't see them ever coming over here again.
  21. The Nolan Sisters on The Young & Moody Band's Don't Do That To Me featuring Lemmy on bass and Cozy Powell on drums.
  22. Curt Smith - always loved the Head Over Heels bassline (although I don't think he just sang the lead vocal on that one)
