1. Tom got in touch after I'd posted a want ad and sold me a very nice Pedaltrain Jr soft case for a bargain price. Thoroughly decent basschatter - recommended.
2. I was never a fan of sax but the guy in Ezra Furman's current band is fantastic. He's the musical arranger as well, and is happy to play a supporting part and do great solos. Well worth checking out to see how a sax can drive a band (but it's not classic rock).
3. The bass player from The Fall was playing one when I saw them last week and it sounded very good indeed.
4. I once had to try and teach a guitar student how to tap his foot. Just a straight 4. He couldn't do it. I suggested he try skateboarding. There are some people with an otherwise decent sense of timing who can't get certain songs where the intro doesn't start on the first beat - The Killers' Human completely throws our otherwise competent singer. I just can't understand it, and certainly can't teach it. In my view if someone can't dance, even a little bit, they're never going to be able to play in instrument successfully.
5. Exactly the same amp/rack/tuner as me. Its definitely a cut above the MB Fusion, good though that is.
6. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
7. I love the sound and look of my S212 but sometimes wish I'd gone for 2 separate cabs - Its just a little bit heavy/bulky to get up the stairs. Great sound though, everything I need for my Fusion 550.
8. Reading this I feel very lucky to be in (near) Leeds which has a wealth of venues with live music available every night of the week. For originals we have the Brudenell Social Club, a fantastic venue with 2 rooms and frequently gigs on in both rooms. Smaller original venues like Wharf Chambers, Headrow House, Hyde Park Book Club are always putting something on. For covers in Leeds there's the Duck and Drake, the Grove, and wider afield there's hundreds of pubs that have bands at weekends. And I haven't even mentioned the larger venues (O2, Arena). Here's a weekly Facebook post that someone puts together locally showing gigs on this weekend in the Yorkshire area - a really lively scene. Blue, I'd suggest finding out about the local originals scene (there must be one, no matter how small). Go along and check out what's happening - it might not be the sort of music you usually listen to, but I bet there's something you'll enjoy, and you'll get out and about and meet some musicians who perhaps have a different viewpoint to you, but will enjoy playing to you and meeting you. I'm not suggesting that its somewhere you'll pick up gigs, but as a musician you might really enjoy the often very original and vibrant (and sometimes challenging) work.
9. I generally use Spotify nowadays but often buy physical (vinyl or CDs) product from bands at gigs. Rarely from record shops these days.
10. That's incredible value, Blue. I feel most festivals here in the UK have completely lost their way and are nothing more than a commercial rip-off.
11. Hi and welcome. Another ex-Kiwi here - Gisborne until 1987.
12. I went from a RB700 to an MB Fusion to a Fusion 550. Al great amps. I like the Fusion 550 the best but my back often wonders why I didn't just stick with the MB - not quite as much depth to the tone but still plenty to work with. Where are you? You're welcome to try it if you're near Harrogate.
13. Ball of Confusion by the Temptations. And Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone.
14. The DHA pedals can do low to high gain tube drive. Quite possibly not easy to find in Stockholm though.
15. There's one in the shop around the corner from me. It's not dissimilar in shape to the Fender 5 bass (James Jamerson had one so that's alright!). The Cribs are a great band and the Jarman brothers write and record some really good songs and put on awesome shows. They do a huge amount the promo and band admin themselves and are very approachable, decent, down to earth guys. I can't think of anyone more worthy of a sig bass.
16. I once had some stuff for my guitars made by a leather worker who normally made horse-related products. It's worth making enquiries in those directions.
17. I had a Gen 1 with steel corners and 1 Speakon. I always think the 2 Speakon/15" speaker elements are the defining feature of the Gen 2 but I could be wrong.
18. And raspberry jam, you've earned it.
19. Less that 1000 off my serial number and almost identical. Great bass, good luck with the sale.
20. Tablas. The hand strength you need!!!
21. Martha Wainwright's bass player was using one of these last night and it sounded awesome.
