1. I'll be playing guitar with this band, Andy on bass is a member here too. They play a range of good old pub tunes from T-Rex, The Specials, Bowie, The Killers, Slade, Pulp, Buzzcocks etc etc. I'll be rocking my Rickenbacker 360 and Ampmaker PP18 amp. Andy will be playing is Mex P through a GK MB200, DHA preamp (can't remember which model) and a couple of Fender cabs. Pop in and say hello if your out and about in York. We'll be on around 9pm. Cheers, Martin
2. Noteflight is good and free, but pencil and manuscript paper is quicker and easier.
3.
Just got my second in the aforementioned combination
Same livery as my S212. Very classy looking kit.
4. Yes, the language/grammar comparison is spot on. To answer the OP's question - Yes. The study of theory is fascinating in itself, even if you just do it to a limited level, it will open your mind and probably help your playing. My own view is that its much easier to make sense of it all if you're a keyboard player or have access to a keyboard. And remember, at the end of the day it's all maths and physics and wholly natural. The circle of 5ths, the relationships between major and relative minor keys, cadences, even a simple investigation of these things will help you understand how music works.
5. And if you're handy with a soldering iron Ampmaker's WF55 is a nice 5W valve amp for £155 (you'll need to buy a speaker too). Still too loud for home use though. But its a very satisfying feeling playing through a good quality amp you've made (well, assembled) yourself!
6. The thing is there are rules. If you don't know them, it doesn't mean they aren't there. I hear a lot of bass players playing a minor (or pentatonic/blues) run where a major one would be much more appropriate. I know theory well, but I never need to go anywhere near modes (at least for the music I play).
7. Where are you based? I'm on mobile and can't see.

If you're happy using a soldering iron, Musikding have a good cheap option. http://www.musikding.de/A/B-Switch
9. My first transaction with Gary - just a simple one, I bought a pick guard, and it arrived insanely well packed and nice and swiftly too. Heartily recommended.
10.
3. How many gigs did the band play last year.
This tells you a lot about what you need to know. I'd also ask about the writing/song selection process.
11. I'll take it, in the box. PM on the way.

DIY Effects

Yes, I've built their Zen drive which is great (I use if for guitar). Also built their Reverb which is also great, and (IIRC) their Red Llama. So far they've all been immaculate kits and very good value.
Where do you guys find these kits online?
I like the kits at Musikding.
14.
Who uses a Gibson today?
Mike Watt.
15. Fender PJ > Gallien-Krueger Fusion 550 > TKS S212 cab. Usually no effects (occasionally a DHA valve drive, but increasingly I'm not bothering) .
16. The Fall and The Dirtbombs are two bands i've seen with two drummers working very effectively. The Dirtbombs were in the Faversham in Leeds, and also Josephs Wells, and the Ruby Lounge in Manchester, so kinda pub venues. The Melvins didn't bring their second drummer when I saw them recently, but live videos I've seen suggest it would have been brilliant if they had.
17. Great name for a band. The Dunning-Kruger Effect. I like it.

obbm's feedback

Other highly successful purchase from Dave, this time some Hicon Banjo Jacks. Arrived in a couple of days and I had a nice night soldering new pedalboard patch leads. They're very good quality jacks, and Dave's service is second to none.
19.
You're not going wrong, actually. In Polish language the 'r', 'sz' and 'cz' are just stronger pronounced. Your 'y' sounds more like Polish 'e' to my ears - you pronounced the schwa (phonetics) I think However, you pronounce it very well! I don't pick on you, I just like languages and phonetics
He's a Geordie - Maruszczyk was probably the word he got closest to the correct pronunciation in the whole piece!! Seriously though, great review, and they look and sound like stunning basses.
20. One bass. I've never broken a string and been able to fix anything else that's gone wrong on the fly (and I can't off the top of my head think of anything - battery ran out once, but I had a spare, and only have passive basses now). I take a spare MB200 amp but I've never had to use it. Even for guitar gigs I don't take a spare anymore - I can't remember the last time I broke a string on guitar.
21. I wouldn't describe either of those as cheap - but I'm a Yorkshireman these days! I built this over the weekend and am very happy with it. If you're happy doing some soldering its a good option.
22. I think the MB200 would suit you perfectly. It's very versatile eq wise and it sounds like to would be loud enough for your purposes. I have one that i use as a backup (to a GK Fusion 550) but i play guitar in a band with another member here - he uses the MB200 up against 2 not hugely loud guitarists playing punk/70s stuff and it never suffers in the mix.
23. Violent Femmes, great band. Highly original (and they did a great cover of Children of the Revolution once).
24. My Dad had IM1948 on his 1948 Chrysler Windsor. IN NZ at the time he could just order ne from the licencing body for no extra cost.
