Sorry to be a bit cheeky with this post but I've became rather curious about the Maruszczyk Elwood 5 string basses over the last few weeks to the point where I'm actually considering selling my Dingwall to get one but I've never actually played one. Are there any owners near Glasgow/surrounding areas who would let me try theirs? Normally I wouldn't ask but I don't know how else I could try one and I don't really want to sell a bass to fund it then realise I don't like them! Will provide biscuits. Thanks Cameron

To be fair, except from the odd few questions most of them are rock bands as opposed to metal... ...that's my excuse and I'm sticking by it.

Lightweight gear and five strings... I guess I'm modern.
Is it me, or is it increasingly a problem with a lot of modern rock bands? I'm basing a lot of this on groups who are "breaking through/on the way up" that I've seen live (and not knowing their studio albums in many cases), but I've found a lot of them sound like they're repeating themselves after the second song. (Or am I just turning into a grumpy old git?)
I find this is a common thing when I see a lot of new bands. I often can't really distinguish much differences other than the key of the song.

I know this is the Warwick thread but that Mayones is gorgeous!

Thinking of quitting bass. Opinions please
Are you in a band? If not join one now!
Yup. Playing with other musicians is one sure way to improve your playing. As well that, it's bloody good fun if you get in a band with people who you get on with. Three years isn't a huge amount of time to become super proficient on an instrument as Douglas said. There has been the odd time where I was a bit fed up with it but found that giving it a break for a week or so, or trying things completely new and out my comfort zone. -
I am not metal at all, whatever my score might turn out to be. Apart from anything else, how metal is taking BBC quizzes online? When the pubs are open, even.
I done the quiz whilst in a pub...I didn't do very well though. So I'm confused about where I stand here!

7/10. I am a huge fan of metal music but mostly more modern stuff so the black Sabbath and iron maiden questions would.obviously throw me off.

I don't know much about P-basses (infact about as close to bugger all as you can get) but I imagine the three that Dannybuoy suggested will be the three that keep popping up in the suggestions here.

I've saw quite a few bands do the same thing. To me the only members you couldn't get away with it would be the drums and vocals.
(Said to you during break before your second set). "We will say goodbye now in case we don't get chance at the end" = "We are going 5 seconds after you start your second set"
I have to do this a lot (although I generally stay for at least 2 songs). Completely down to the fact that I need to get public transport everywhere though. -
Sounds great, is that the ACG? it's a lovely clear tone.
Yeah it is. Thing I like about the pre-amp is you can go from that to thumpy Motown-esque sound with one quick turn of a dial!

Slightly ironic double post..
2 entries is cheating? Oops!
I meant two bass tracks on the one entry
-
Here's my entry. Didn't do what I originally had planned as I reckon two tracks would be cheating so I've done this with just the one track. Also I hope folk don't mind but it says 1:02 but there's a bit of silence either side...I forgot to edit it out and I've now just realised I forgot to save... https://soundcloud.com/cameron-jamieson-4/basschat-noodle-1

I try and take both of my basses out equally but about 80% of the time I take my ACG and leave the other bass in the house. Both of them work excellently for the music I play so I can get away with either. I actually generally take the other bass if I'm being a bit lazy as the filter preamp in the ACG can take some thinking at times.
Hmmm, always wondered about the Dirty Blonde's sound. Was the bridge pickup any use, or was it a little too close to the bridge to be used on its own? Funny, you don't see many of the higher profile Warwick players with that particular bass, the only one I saw was Weezer's bassist, and given thae most of the time he plays a P Bass, it makes perfect sense now! Eude
My experience with it was that I couldn't use the bridge pickup alone, even with the (very powerful) preamp set so that it shouldn't be a thin sound. Which was a real pain for me as I generally prefer the sound of a bridge pickup. The twin Jazz pickup was just way too close to solo. Just remembered I made this when I was trying to sell mine. It's literally just me pissing around playing whatever came to my head so don't expect an actual decent demo. All plugged straight into audacity. Ignore my shoddy playing too! Oh yeah...my stupidity there. I've certainly heard of quite a few people doing that so I guess it is 'legitimate'. Anything that gets the noise you want from the bass to the amp is legitimate I would say.

There are so many inappropriate puns going through my head right now... What do you mean by double fingering? I would google it but I know what the results would be...

What to buy for £35? Suggestions please.

Strings would probably be my choice too. Even though you have just restrung, you'll end up restringing again at some point. -
