1. "This video is private" - Not letting me see it
 2.
For me, the first two and a half minutes is a cracking little pop song - a bit like something you'd expect Stiff to have put out in the late 70's, early 80's. But then it just keeps going and doesn't really seem to know why - as if you have too many ideas and are trying to stuff them all into the one song. I'd also put the little guitar motif in from the start, very catchy, and is what makes the track for me.
I know what you mean, it's weird. When we were originally writing it we felt it was a bit long but we tried playing it shortened and it didn't feel right. It's all ideas I'm gonna chat about with the other chaps. Just at the point of finalising everything for recordings now.
 3. Also, please ignore the bollocks that the guitarist is speaking into the mic at the start...he does that without us asking sometimes.
 4. Sorry if I should have put this in a different section, I wasn't really sure since it's more about getting opinions than actually sharing my music. Basically my band is heading into record 4 songs in a months time and I'm basically just looking for opinions on one/some of the songs...just in-case there is anything that immediately stands out as bad to other people when they listen to it. We don't want to record songs then realise something is obviously wrong with them! The section where it goes a lot softer will have an overdubbed guitar chord sequence over it but can't do it at rehearsals since we only have the one guitarist. https://soundcloud.com/goon-and-the-kings/cross-the-line/s-SHlEg Recording isn't superb as it was done at rehearsal the other day and again, sorry if this is in the wrong section and feel free not to listen or to call us pish! Cameron
 5. Will maybe pop along. Never been to 13th note yet surprisingly
 6. Saw a few of this guys playing and never liked it much (not saying I'm any better!) but I do like that video!
 7. This seems more like an idea I could get into. Question though. Is it allright to have more than one bass track? Reason I ask if I'm currently working on a melody type thing for my bands song but if I can't have the guitar track in the back I'd do the chords...doesn't really make sense otherwise! Edit : The title seems perfect to me!
 8.
It does track great but I wouldn't be surprised if the signal of your bass after those 4 seconds was not loud enough to feed the octaver properly.
This is my thoughts on it. I don't have any issues with mine breaking up unless I'm already playing a really low note and trying to replicate the octave below that.
 9. I don't know why but I quiet like it...
 10.
Nope, you got it backward...OCD or not, the top one is ugly.
I find them both pretty ugly if I'm honest but I can't really speak...I really like the Warwick headstocks and people seem to hate them!
 11.
I play a jazz and a precision though (both fivers) so what do I know?
It definitely is incredibly subjective and I knew that. On a similar note to yours. One of my basses is "coffee table" material and the other is bright yellow with dodgy frets so incredibly uncool in a lot of peoples books but I love them. I've always found 'traditional' shapes to be quite dull to look at and quite uncomfortable to play for me.
 12. An incredibly similar thread popped up here last week if I recall correctly. Ibanez SR basses have really slim necks and considering the price of them the punch way above their weight IMO.
 13. I tend to use the preamp on my bass to change what tone I'm going for and I use my amp to adjust ever so slightly. I actually sometimes use my amps eq section a little like a eq pedal. The footswitch has a switch for low boost, mid scoop and high boost so I use these a little like a stompbox for certain parts of songs. It's handy for slightly shaping the sound. I would say thought that if I used passive basses it would make more sense to use pedals to shape the tone...especially with things like the source audio EQ that can save different settings.
 14. I think I'd rather the 20 quid if I'm honest. Does seem like a great thing to have for a guitar tech though.
 15. I should state that I don't care care what instrument anybody plays so long as they play it well. I just like seeing nice basses when I go to gigs
 16.
No concensus will be found here.
I knew that from shortly after I joined Curious about the subject though.
 17. Over the few years I've been a member on here I've saw quite a lot of people say things like "Fenders are the only cool basses" or '5+ strings aren't cool' and things to that effect. My personal thoughts on it are that it depends who is playing (and more importantly how they are playing it). I know that If I'm at a gig and someone is playing something other than a Fender J or P bass I find it a bit of a breath of fresh air seeing/hearing something different than usual. I can't say I find an instrument itself cool but I certainly enjoy when I can see someone play something out of the ordinary. Basically I'm curious about the general thoughts regarding 'cool' basses on here. Also. What makes you find certain basses 'cool'? Cameron
 18. I always have the following in my gig bag

pliers/string cutters
spare 9v battery (I really should carry two considering one of my basses is 18v)
screwdriver
allan keys
pen/pencil
small torch (to be fair, it's for the luminlay markers but it's a damn good torch if required)
generally keep a pick or two in there for the guitarists inevitable incident.
19. I'm quite lucky in the band I'm in that we 1. Don't really do stuff like this too often. 2. Whenever we do it we're usually pretty good at communicating our intentions for how it goes so it usually doesn't seem like a fluff up to people watching. I would say it depends on the solo though. If it's a solo that's just there for the sake of it (which lets face it, so many guitar solos are) then I'd like to cut back in after 7 bars but if it was some iconic guitar solo that everybody knew then I'd come in after it was finished.
 20.
To be fair, there were two a year for the first couple of years if memory serves
That's somewhat comforting
 21. If you're used to 4 strings you may have to adjust. Saying that when I first picked up a 5 string it instantly felt more at home compared to a 4 string. I also find 5 string necks to be much more comfortable to play but a lot of people don't. So really my comment here is pretty useless as it depends what works for you personally.
 22.
Finding it hard to believe this is the ninth one! Glad to hear ticket sales are going well
Gawd. It's being going on for almost double the length of time I've even been playing bass Glad I managed to get a ticket, enjoyed myself last year.
 23. It plays as good as it looks...
 24. Thats quite special!
 25. Pretty cool. I'd be interested to see how long it would actually last if it got regular usage.
