1. Five weeks!? Wow, BF have upped their game. Mine was about seven months! :-D Enjoy
2.
Well seasoned wood has a low moisture content and therefore doesn't shift as much as wood with a higher moisture content. There's a reason that manufacturers like Fodera have a source of wood that's been seasoned for decades! Truckstop
The moisture content in wood once seasoned is not constant, it is always trying to equalise with the moisture content in the air, whether through evaporation or absorbtion. Therefore if the MC is either greater or less than that of the air, it will try to equalise and move the wood accordingly. Therefore, I would say that well seasoned wood has CORRECT moisture content, I would read your statement as implying that the lower the better, which is not true. Anyway, it's a small detail and I think we're more or less reinforcing the same point :-) I'm off to play with my wood
3.
well aged wood which will have a lower moisture content than poorer quality wood. Truckstop
It's not a case of the lower the moisture content the better, more a case of seasoning the wood to match as closely as possible that of the environment in which it will be living. Too high or too low and it will move while acclimatising. You're right of course about better quality basses being less susceptible to movement, but this will more likely be due to being more structurally sound (laminated neck, carbon rods etc)
4. Tuning a bass so that the open strings are in tune is one thing, but a well intonated bass is tuned right up the fretboard. Tune your open E string, then hold down the 12th fret and see if that is also spot on E. If not, adjust the bridge saddle either towards or away from the nut until both open and 12th fretted E's are spot on. Repeat for each string.
5.
I'm hoping to put together a video for this tune and then begin work on proper recording project with Paul towards the end of August... we'll keep you all posted.
Excellent news, it's a real winning collaboration
6. If I started down that road, I'd end up with lots of nice basses and a massive debt within three years. Do you have more self-discipline than me?
7.
My cheapest rig to date, a total cost of £100:
Wow, that's a whole lotta rig for the price of a pedal! There's a lot of bargains to be had for people who have the strength and space for an 8x10, but £100 for that lot? Stupendous!
8. Well done all - a lot of lovely ambient type stuff, and some bit War of The Worlds! I'm not sure about the etiquette of saying who you voted for, but for me, it was a tie between two that I really loved, and the decider was the one which related to the picture more. Top, top quality. BTW, I'm the piece of toast commenting on Soundcloud in case you were wondering. Thanks to those who are following me, you may be in for a long wait :-)
9.
I don't know about doing this with covers, but I sure as hell need to do this with some of the various song fragments I have lying around
Worked pretty well on Abbey Road
10.
I love Trent Reznors music. I think the guys a genius !
I agree, so much amazing material. Outside of NIN he's been pretty prolific on the film soundtrack side of things, he even has an Oscar. Not bad for someone who has 'never offered anything of merit' ;-)
11. Sounds fantastic Shep. I'll download it today. Well done mate :-)
12. Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDGhJtEsmj8
13. The ATK is one of the few Ibanez basses that I like the look of. I like this especially as it has an additional pickup closer to the neck (not a big fan of single MM types). I don't mind that bridge so much. Ideally I'd have the five string in black with bwb scratch plate, black headstock and maple board. Mmmm
14. Keeping the same amp and getting more conage can do wonders for volume. I don't know about the sensitivity/excursions of the different speakers, but the cone area of a 4x12 is only slightly less than 6 x 10" speakers - about 4% difference, so you're not increasing the conage as much as you may think Edit, sorry, I just read your post properly, and see that you say that the head is now giving 450w as opposed to the previous 270. I believe that twice the watts increases volume by around 10%
15. Glad you received it, and glad it's suitable. FYI I packed it really tightly, compressing it with a big mallet. You should find that there's about two mugs' worth of normal dust in there. Hope the repair goes well.
16. I assume you create a new topic in the For Sale section and it will walk you through the process
17. Some nice reggae for this sunny Friday afternoon. This is superb DJ URoy with his musings on sharing a bong with the queen:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uds2JNoqsvc
18. Here's the thread, which has some headless Modulus content http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f42/modulus-bass-561344/ Edit, it would help if I included the link!
19. Someone on Talkbass reckons that in the '80s, he played an Aria Pro ii with a headless Modulus neck and Whammy bar - could that be this one?
20.
You will like this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8hX7_JFveA
Indeed I do - I was at that gig! :-D
21. DV makes a great footrest
22. That's really nice, thanks. Staying on a soulful vibe.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzSiSY9uEgg
23.
My Wife walked in to Hans Zimmer - You're So Cool (you might know it from True Romance http://youtu.be/jq5kbNW8VKU and our first dance was the Cure - Feels like heaven (poor version by our wedding band unfortunately)
'Feels like Heaven' by Future Factory, or 'Just like Heaven' by The Cure. Maybe that mixup explains the bad version by the band ;-)
