Just poor workmanship on instruments. You dont get one of violins.
Is the bridge totally 'square' on a violin? It's hard to tell: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Music/muspic/51viobridge.jpg By that rationale, on a well intonated bass, the closer the saddles are together, the better built it is?
-
This is just out of curiosity. The vast majority of basses I see have their bridges set up so that the saddle for the lowest string is furthest back, then the next one forward a bit etc. What's the reason for this? The next question - what about bridges which don't stick to this format? Does it tell us anything about that bass? I don't think it necessarily means that it's incorrectly set up, as I've seen Foderas which have all saddles more or less in a row. Info welcome!

A mate got this for his birthday - what a great present! I suspect it's more suited for guitar rather than bass, but I might plug in and play just for a laugh.

Pre EB stingray on gumtree ! MMMMMMM maybe not
Roland Rock replied to funkgod's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Can some enlighten those not in the know?
If you look at the headstock logo here: http://www.elderly.com/vintage/items/images/55U/55U-4382_headstock-front.jpg obviously it's an EB model. Doesn't the Gumtree one look just like that, but with the 'Ernie Ball' erased? This is a real Pre EB decal: http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2013/post-9204-0-77109700-1359133075.jpg Added to that, the Gumtree one is 3eq, whereas pre EBs were all 2EQ I'm sure there are plenty of other things that the expert would spot, but those are the two main giveaways -
There's an EBS Session 60 going in the BC marketplace at the moment. I'd go for that :-) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205971-for-sale-ebs-session-60-combo-as-new-l175/page__pid__2070297#entry2070297

Custom made, solid pine bodied 'Sh*t-o-caster'...
Roland Rock replied to SlapbassSteve's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yeah, he did make one. It looked like a Bongo.
:-D Yeah, Bongos not my cuppa aesthetically, even though they sound great -
Here's one a bit different. It's Leicester based By The Rivers. It takes a minute or so to get to the main song. Really great stuff, and they're so young! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nbK0V-0U18

I love the way the thumbrest is off a bog seat too - nice touch. Doesn't BC's Outshined have one of these? -
Why do you want to know what gear your heroes use?
Roland Rock replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I assume people want to know either because they are gearheads and love the trivia, or want to get their heroes' exact tone. The first one is fair enough, that's what rocks their boat. The second is a bit tricky; even if you get their tone (unlikely as there are so many variables, technique being a big one) will it work with your band as effectively? Unlikely IMO Although I know what basses people like Andy Frazer, Aston Barrett or Jerry Jemmott use, it's only because I've seen their pictures etc. I have no desire to find out their setup in detail. I enjoy listening to them, then pick up my bass and do my own thing. -
Produced by Sly and Robbie, this Black Uhuru song is perfect for a hot day. This starts with very a simple yet effective bassline in G♭m, just the 1,3,4 and 5, on each beat - lovely http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNn9Vwfr9sI

It was a fun night with five acts on, us being the penultimate. I brought the Streamliner 900 and the '69er for everyone to use. Whether it was a five string Yamaha, a Jazz, a Precision, or my Ergon, they all sounded superb - very happy. The other acts were all great and the crowd were well up for it. We had a power cut two thirds of the way into the fourth song, and no one noticed; they just cheered as if the song had ended normally! Thankfully we were re-electricitized with the flick of a switch. We handed out lollipops to everyone for our last song (called Lollipop) and great fun was had all round. a brilliant night.

cutting sound from a stingray? eq advice needed!
Roland Rock replied to bigevilman's topic in Bass Guitars
That would be my suggestion too. Tiny bass boost. Tiny. Don't listen to Pete In 2-band Stingrays especially boosting too much the bass can sound a bit muddy, and if you boost treble much, your mids will fall off the edge. Small bass boost.
This was my error when I had a ray, I think I boosted both eqs too much and ended up with a scooped tone that I disliked and vanished in the mix. If only basschat had existed back then :-) -
What about Roy and the Imperial Walkers?

I used to get sweaty hands a lot on stage, but as time went on, it happened less and less. I've concluded that it may be a symptom of nervousness, as I don't get nearly as nervous on stage these days.

I bought a used bass last year which was to be shipped over from Germany. The seller only sends his basses ultra securely. It came in a Mono semi rigid case, then was taken for a professional pack job, which consisted of crazy amounts of bubble wrap and a very sturdy box, all sealed in that industrial film wrap. Of course, I paid for this, but the seller wouldn't have sent it any other way. You could have surfed on that with confidence! I thought it was a bit OTT, but after reading threads like this, am glad he was so cautious.

Tour posters of your favourite bands.

I've had a fiver for nine months odd, and do this a fair bit. It is comfortable playing something in G up at the 8th fret. The main reason I do it is that it gives a fatter tone that suits many of my reggae basslines. So really, my only advice is yes it should work, but be aware of the change of tone as you play up the neck.

Have you seen the Vintage Icon fretless? Doesn't come much more Jaco than that. Here's a vid of a Basschatter's demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xd2394nEYs

Hi Tim, just a couple of pointers: My first thought was that the accessories forum would be more appropriate. Then I read on - If it's something you're making and selling, perhaps the Affiliates forum would be more appropriate! Also, linking to your ebay auction is frowned upon as per the marketplace rules. Cheers
They came to the conclusion that I was homophobic because I support gay marriage but I don't think it's wrong for people to be opposed to it. This is a view I share with that well-known homophobe Peter Tatchell. That's why I stay out of Off Topic these days.
Ah, we'll we'll not get into it again here, but thanks for the clarification :-)
The organisation is the Pink Sou'Westers, a Birmingham-based GLBT group, who I enjoy playing for despite what the Basschat Thought Police think about me.
Seems an odd thing to say, what's that all about?
I love threads like that, I can get lost in them for ages. Like that Israeli guy making a lightweight resonant Jazz, that was an amazing thread. Please don't ask me to find it, I can't remember any useful keywords
Gil Yaron? http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/169606-1960-jazzbass-build.html

Pah! Can't even get the frets parallel ;-)

In my head, I'm grooving nicely to the music, and the epitome of cool. Whenever I see a picture of me onstage, I'm a miserable bugger :-(
