1. I enjoy and admire Jaco etc, but it's the playing of Carol Kaye, Chuck Rainey, Jerry Jemmott etc. that really rocks my boat.
2.
Well done Geoff, sounds like a good night! I'll keep my eyes open for you playing round here. In our band, we leave plenty of time between songs for comedy moments, the audience love (and expect) it when our singer and guitarist swap quips. It also gives our lead guitarist time to tune/swap guitars etc without the audience focusing on him. IMO its all part of a professional, slick show.
Fair enough - maybe I'm biased against midset banter because our guy is not half as funny as he thinks he is
3.
Anyway. Lots of nerves - played the first few numbers a bit too fast & didn't leave any time between songs.
Sounds like it went well - well done. In my experience/opinion, the less time between songs the better. There's nothing worse than disorganised changing of instruments or a frontman trying to fill the awkward gap by trying to be funny. IMO flowing from one song quickly to another is more slick and professional.
4. Palm muting while playing with a plectrum. I'm trying to avoid having to stuff a bit of foam under the bridge mid-set.
5. I never tire of this one - more drum than bass though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCxmNTVVGnw...49&index=26 Why do the hotel foyers I pass through never have this kind of entertainment??
6. Red Iron 100W amp (some mods by Champ Electronics, and case replaced by me) Ear Candy "Sweet Tooth" 2x10 Cab
7.
I have seen this on some amps were the output is very high. I think some amps do this to drive a slave amp and are not really designed to run a desk. You could buy a DI pedal and run it from the tuner out and let the signal pass thou to run the tuner as well. Make a range myself dare I say? Dave
I had the same problem, where my DI was far too hot for the desk. My DHA VT1 EQ pedal has a great DI for both PAs and recording
8. The stinger tail looks pretty stylish on the MK, but I'd be afraid of impaling someone, or snapping it off - preferably the former at that price!
9. Fair enough - I think I just fixated on the Nu Metal thing. Maybe Warwick are doing it for the US market.
10. I've never really considered 311 as being part of the Nu Metal scene. I managed to catch them live around '95 (a while before Nu Metal was big) and became an instant convert. They have a big reggae influence and are generally much more 'musical' than the Nu Metallers. P-Nut is great, but for me the drummer is the real star of the band. The bass looks very nice indeed. It was reviewed alongside the TM Stevens in BGM, and in comparison is the epitome of good taste!
11. try this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...#ht_1282wt_1139
12. Somehow joining BC has made me want to get more stuff: Barefaced 69er 6x10 sealed cab HenBev B4 Bass Lakland Decade Bass
13. Not that I've worn one on stage or anything, it was just a hypothetical question - honest
14. Beautiful and very tasteful. I would never have thought of a clear scratchplate, but it works really well.
15.
I am just loving this one at the mo. Elvis Costello Pump it Up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUZseMxE6P4
That's great - brilliant song and cool bass playing & tone too
16. 'Superjam' by Flow Dynamics sample on http://www.amazon.co.uk/Superjam-Flow-Dyna...x/dp/B001ERD14U
17. Sounds just the ticket. Probably a good job it's not out for a while; I need time to save up and figure out where it's going to live Many thanks for your help
18. Thanks, I'll check them out. I'm hoping that there will be a cloth retro look available. In your opinion, would a cab bigger than my current one help significantly in the volume stakes?
19. Steve Harris RS flats have a different colour on each end (Red and Blue to reflect Steve's West Ham allegiance) Good job I have a bridge cover to hide one end
20. A bit more research leads me to believe that these are discontinued, and second hand ones are like hen's teeth.
21.
i think i look at bands collectively as opposed to individuals each playing an instrument. although i do have a very prejudiced rule - any bass player that wears a hat on stage means i refuse to watch their band or even talk to them. thats my only rule, its as simple as that.
Oh Dear - does that include a sequined Santa hat?
22. Hi, I currently have a custom 100w all valve head running into a 2x10 cab (I think rated at 600w) The volume is just about enough for gigging, but I could do with a bit more in reserve. Looking at the BF website, the vintage looks perfect - recommended for heads as little as 100w, recommended for valve heads, lightweight and with a retro cloth grille too! My question is, how much more volume would the BF Vintage setup get compared to my current setup? If you need to know about EQ, it's a simple bass, mid & treble on the amp, but I also play through a DHA VT1EQ preamp pedal which boosts the bass' signal and has a bit more EQ tweaking ability. I play a 70's P bass thanks
23.
For my first bass i bought an Encore PK-20 p bass, brand new on ebay for £60. Now im upgrading and cant decide what bass to get. Should i get the Chase for £130? Squier jazz for £150? Or the Westfield MM for £160?
That Chase is quite a looker - you tried it out? I could do with a cheap backup bass, and that could be a contender. The other I was looking at was the Aria DMB380 http://www.ariausa.com/basses/dmb380.html maybe this could be of interest to you too
24.
The headstock ruins it for me I'm afraid. Best of luck though, my moneys on this though:
My thoughts exactly. The sock gets points for being bonkers. Looks like you're well in the lead though - good luck.
25.
When playing a gig, with other bands on the bill, the main thing that gets my back up to be honest is the lack of support other bands show each other.......We make an effort to listen to the other bands sets, clap and chear, and always stay to the end.
I seem to be the only person in our band who thinks that that's proper etiquette. The others will go off for food/sit elsewhere. Part of it is that now that I have kids, I rarely get to go and see other bands, so am glad to watch anything, even mediocrity!
