1. I dug this track out from an old band. Sometimes I wish I hadn't sold the MuTron

3. As Chris2112 says, it could be to with the nature of the company. I believe they're made in the US and you can only buy them direct from the company, ie no authorised distributors. Keeps overheads down, but that approach also seems to diminish the prestige factor. It might make things a bit harder to market overseas.
4. Lovely! I'm still obsessing over the '59 in the Gallery. Flame maple neck mmmmmmmmmm
5.
Yes, German LX. AAA Flamed Maple, but this one is spalted AND quilted!
Hi, Lovely bass, the wood is stunning. On a pedantic note, there's a difference between quilted and flamed Unusual to have spalted too - it's subtle and beautiful. Good luck with the sale
6. First Bass: Marlin Sidewinder - seemingly the only good one ever made, talking to other Marlin owners Go to bass: Alder/Maple P with East P Retro (on the wish list) My bass: I want two very different sounds (super modern and super retro) and GAS has told me I need two specific and expensive basses for this, so no one bass can do it for me (I'm sure that's not the case, but you know how GAS is)
7. From a superficial angle, maybe yellow is out this season. The distinctive colour scheme/looks may be a factor. The current trend seems to be more for the vintage fender/valve amp look.
8. Either that or our keyboard player is pulling a sly one! I'll double check myself what the payment situation is when at the audition. It's possible that there are a range of bands from nationally known big tributes who are well paid, to locally known smaller tributes who will play for peanuts/nowt just for the experience/exposure. Seems you were in the former and I'm in the latter!
9. My band is 'Rebel Rebel', a Bowie Tribute. The problem is that I can't gig in May, but there's a festival that the guys really want to do. We have the audition this sunday, and if successful, the band will need a dep for this gig. Apparently it's a cracking festival with big crowds. Just putting feelers out at this stage - not a paid gig so not sure whether you would be rewarded financially for your work. We'll get through the audition first!
10. I have a 1.5mm gap between the neck and the neck pocket (top side) - perfect!
11.
Oh and I would also have the SPs next to each other, not on top.
Why's that BB? I always thought a vertical format was recommended for best projection
12.
I was taught start with the rhythm. The notes come a distant second!
amen
13.
This must be a real contender for heaviest bass.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electric-bass-sale-/...=item4aa805b531
That's probably the most ridiculous bass I've ever seen. If it ever did do your back in, at least it could double up as a stretcher also, I like the way it comes with a 'custom case'. If ever a bass needed a custom case.....
14. I got rid about 10 years ago, so I'll need to try and dig out and scan some old photos
15.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=122874 DHA eq/di. I like mine.
+1 for the DHA Mine is a different DHA pedal with a DI built in (VT1 EQ bass), but is very good quality for both recording and gigging
16. One of the three basses I ever owned was a mid 80's Stingray. I was told that this was an 83, but it was a 2EQ EBMM (white with black scratchplate) - when was the transition from pre to post EB? Anyway, it was my first 'real' bass - beautifully built and a lovely player - nice bit of birdseye in the neck, too. I never got on with the tone, however. Found my soul mate in a P ... (run for cover) In hindsight, I was young and inexperienced - it's possible I wasn't twiddling the knobs the right way
17. Just a thought - with valve amps, the US tend to use 6550s and UK tend to use KT88s - could this be a contributing factor when it comes to tone difference? Makes sense to me. My amp was US made, complete with 6550s, but I put in some KT88s (plus bias tweaking) and I definitely prefer the richer tone and increased headroom. Whether it's US v British tone, I'm not sure!
18.
That's the way it reads to me, too. If you're confident/knowledgeable enough to start disconnecting speakers etc. to do 'controlled experiments', then how could you do such a stupid thing? Anyway, hindsight etc. Hope it's cheap and painless
19. Hey Big John - was a pleasure to bump into you last night. The recordings are sounding great - I'll be sure to come and see you when you play the Greyhound (as long as it's not the same day our baby's born! Priorities and all that)
20. Fun gig tonight. There was a very up for it crowd, and a very enthusiastic soundguy who opted to mike up my amp rather than DI - horray and I met another BCer - they're everywhere!
21.
I like that Precision, what is it a 1977??
Cheers, it's a '78 (was white, stripped by previous owner)
22.
My custom 21 string bass weighs in at 47.46 lbs
You sure you're not holding your bass vertically? those are frets, not strings
23. You the man Mr F, Stupidly, I had always thought that the master volume was at the very end of the chain. That makes sense, and also explains why I love my 100w amp so much! Cheers
24. I'm finding this very interesting and informative. Sorry if it's deviating from the OP, but I have another question: If you have a signal which is getting progressively dirtier after driving the pre and power sections, why is it not possible to cut the volume with the master volume and still achieve the same dirty tone? Is this because it's also necessary to 'open up' the power valves (with master volume) to achieve the power amp drive? Basically I'm unsure as to the relationship between the master volume and the power section.
25.
Is this destined for a Wayne-TM paint job?
What's a Wayne-TM paint job? Hopefully nothing to do with the Zulu-inspired paint job on the TM Stevens sig?
