1.
£0.125/W, going up to £0.175/ W taking into account the £20 that the repair cost me.
Wow, those are some cheap ass watts! I'm sure at one point in my life I could have created a formula and calculated what you paid for what amp, but not any more :-(
10p/Matamp watt, get money's worth per lb too.
I once went into a discount bookshop and they were selling books by the weight! Scales at the front of the shop and then they calculated the price, like pick n mix! Crazy
 2. 'Superfly' by Curtis Mayfield is simple, yet still takes a bit of practice to really lock in with the groove.
 3. I'm by no stretch a jazzer, but I'm thinking that modes are going to be pretty important here. Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolean are good for playing over Dm7, as they are the minor diatonic scales. I'd be sticking to chord tones for the majority of the time unless you're doing the odd passing tone or chromatic run.
 4. When buying your bog roll in Tesco, the price tags show price per sheet, so that you can make an informed purchasing decision. What about £ per watt when buying an amp? For no other reason other than being another silly basschat thread, has anyone achieved any notable ratios when buying an amp? I'm hoping someone will have bagged a 10p-per-watt bargain, and someone else will have paid £100 per watt for some boutique beauty. My two amp heads were pretty different: £6.50 pw for the Red Iron amp, and £0.57 pw for the Streamliner
 5. Wow, I'd love to meet him; I love the basslines for Free, and his solo albums have some really lovely, soulful moments too*. I'd read years ago that he had totally given up playing bass - glad that's not (or no longer) true. *'Train of Love' is a personal favourite
 6. I don't know about the general issue you've asked about, but I know the venue, asbI've played there several times. It's one of those lovely pubs where they have a passion for putting on live music, and it shows in the setup of the pub as well as the lively clientele. It will be a huge shame if they get squeezed out of business. Well done, and enjoy the gig!
 7. Upcoming dates: Friday 30th August - The Dublin Castle, Camden, as above Saturday 31st August - Nottingham Contemporary. Saturday 21st September - Stuff of Life 'festival' (tiny festival in a park in the Carrington area of Nottingham) Friday 27th September - The Hop Pole, Bromsgrove. 8.
I did it with my valve preamp Ashdown head. I assume it's fine to do it with a valve preamp.
Yeah, when I say valve amp, I mean proper valve amp with output transformer. Edit, I'm not implying that your amp is improper :-) it's just when people say valve amp, they tend to mean all valve
 9. [sup]
(of course, if you want to run an amp head without a cab, and DI it, that's fine too).
[/sup] [sup]You'll be fine with the LM3 - From the MB website: "any Markbass amp can be used as a preamp only. We recommend that when doing so, you turn off the master volume (not essential, but it's better for the amp). The gain control and/or the Line Out level control will regulate the output from the amp" [/sup] [sup] [/sup] [sup]Whatever you do, don't try it with a valve amp![/sup]
 10.
Sigur Ros
Good call. I saw these a couple of months back; a really lovely experience

 12. Reasons off he top of my head, based on my experience: 1: We often play gigs where the sound engineer only wants vocals through the PA. 2: When playing through the PA, the monitoring is often crap, or even non existent! 3: It may seem like a faf to you, but constantly searching for 'the perfect tone' and buying and selling all the time is an enjoyable pastime for some. 4: The PA in our practice room won't handle bass as well as vocals. 5: It's the 'done thing', just as our fathers and their fathers before them have done. Maybe.

 14. "Rebranding the same old designs ad infinitum" I think that's the Fender strategy/marketing department mantra ;-) Sorry, not very helpful. I know they tweak those designs occasionally. As to the difference between CV and VM? Not sure, but people seem to rate the CV more
 15.
Something tells me that I will be ordering a second or a compact from Alex pretty soon...
If you only have a semi, then you need another one to do the job ;-)
 16. A nice little lick, thanks. I love the exercise with the backing track going round the circle of fourths, which I need a bit of practice with. (the fact that it starts with the minor 3rd of the vi and ends with the root of the I, ie the same note, makes it a bit easier) Thanks!
 17. Nice, but not THAT nice!
 18.
It's the Nottingham accent which throws me..! Thanks for the toasting, though; much appreciated. 7/8..? Yes, not only, but also. There's 3 time signatures in there, plus a couple of syncopated accentuations. It'd take longer to 'analyse' it than to listen to..!
I suppose I was concentrating on that for the comparison to 'Money'. I'm more of a listener than an analyser, and liked what I heard. Good work :-)
 19.
yes, I knew someone would say that...
Your translation is off :-P For my real comments, see the toast face in Soundcloud :-)
 20.
Speaking of custom made 6 strings...my ACG 6'er is for sale and isn't that far above your rough price guide...? If you're interested I could check the nut width and we could discuss numbers via pm
I was just going to write hang on to your money and wait for a Shuker or ACG 6er to come up on the boards. You won't get better than that for the money!
 21.
Good morning, all... Here's my modest contribution to the fray...
Don't be so modest, it's ##%***ing *^%###***€$¥%#!
 22. I liked that a lot. "No preconceptions, no expectations, just sound" Thanks for posting :-)
 23.
That thing where you need to change valves every couple of years is a myth/lie.
+1. I've not changed my KT88s for about 8 years!
 24. My valve amp is 100w and I play it through the Barefaced '69er (sealed 6x10, sensitivity 102db). It's loud enough for small/medium gigs, but I have bought a 900w digital jobbie for backup/louder gigs. TBH I use the 900w job for most gigs now as I like the assurance that I have more than enough volume. The valve amp is now reserved for small gigs and recording. The all valve tone can't be beaten!
 25. I've only bought one 2013 release so far, the Daft Punk album. What a disappointment! I love the first two albums, but this has just gone in the wrong direction for me. It has a few good moments, but there is a fair bit of weak disco with annoying vocoder. The rest sounds like Jean Michel Jarre massaging Mike Oldfield in a cheese factory.
