1. Band shot. What I love about this is that my T Shirt is bunched up in such a way that it makes it look like I have 'bitch tits' à la Meatloaf in Fight Club
2.
There's obviously some in joke on this bass that I'm not privy to...
Wasn't 4000 just stating that this beautiful bass is back on the market, thereby recommencing the feelings of GAS-fuelled yearning and frustration caused by the previous threads? Don't knock a compliment and a free bump :-) All the best with retirement
3. The Protec is more money, but very good protection. Here's my review: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205909-protec-small-mixer-case-pa-1212/page__hl__protec+mixer__fromsearch__1 Edit: actually, it looks like Thomann don't sell then any more :-(
4. Im an advocate of buying quality used second hand separates. I have a meridian CD player (actually separate transport and DAC), Linn speakers and a Rotel amp. It sounds very, very good; MUCH better than either of my 2.1 systems (HK and Sony) It all cost about £300. The amp is a bit crackly and getting worse, so if anyone has any recommendations. Ideally up to £90 used
5.
Really? I have NEVER played a venue with house backline. A FOH PA yes nut never backline.
Same here
6. Status HotWire strings have black windings too
7.
Yep it's a 5 string
:-D I had thought maybe Status, but the headstock put me off the idea. Good ol Basschat, thanks :-)
8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=admS-LBCkIA Blink and you miss it 0:05
9. No worries, I'm sure you'll do,a good job, armed with a few choice tools and a a cautious attitude!
(Also, do you build doors and/or windows? That's one of the finer aspects of joiner that I wanted to get in to, but never did. Making bespoke worktops was actually what I wanted to do.)
Technically, I'm a cabinet maker in that I don't (usually) do any fitted stuff; I just design/make to design free-standing furniture like tables, chairs, benches, TV cabinets etc. Obviously I make cabinet doors, and have only made big doors (oak ledge and brace type) once. I've never made windows :-(
10. I did a repair just like this on a dulcimer recently. I used Titebond 2. A couple of tips: don't get too overzealous with the sanding when removing the old glue, as it's possible it will go out of square, and then you'll either have a wonky headstock or a compromised joint. I used a disc sander with a 90 degree bed and fence. Also, clamping can be fun when the objects are irregularly shaped. I had to shape a piece of MDF specially to hold the headstock securely. This is where I had filled in the old two dowels and drilled holes for four new ones, for added strength Surface cleaned up, and dowels glued in Clamping up an awkward shape: Hope it goes well
11.
I always think my action is too high, but if I bring it down , I get fret buzz, so I just leave it . Every time I see anyone else's, theirs is always quite high too.
It sounds like a tweak of the truss rod is required one way or the other (depending on where the buzz is)
12. Congratulations! I think you should get a 7lb 10oz bass for yourself to mark the occasion ;-)
13. Good call on the new scratchplate. It looks great!
14. That EJ is gorgeous!
15. Post-gig feedback from a drunken punter: "That's the best live act I've seen since Diana Ross" :-D
16.
Hi Not to sound bitchy but im not too sure what you are trying to say here ? are you saying that we should not have missed it for some reason ??
In a recent thread, there was a grumble that Tom was bigging up a product while not making clear his associations with the manufacturer. This thread makes his associations very clear, hopefully preventing any future confusion.
17. When you next enter the shop, drill out the lock rather than turning the door handle
18. Oops, I don't really do pedals any more, but came across this thread and decided that I NEED a Zerograph. Just ordered one :-D I did have a MF101 about nine years ago, but wasn't playing dub reggae back then, and couldn't cope with the lack of true bypass. Shep, if it doesn't work out, you can have mine (if Dave keeps his)
19. Well deserved Garry, it's a stonking tune
20. @DadThreeThousandThreeHundredandFiftyThree I can't believe you've had no votes, your entry is excellent :-(
21. Bumping this, seeing as people seem to be diarising Dublin Castle gigs ATM :-) "Ujahm- low slung reggae with a Holly Cook like female lead singer, bit rootsier though but lyrically very much now- concerns with Red Stripe on her trainers, drinking Hennesey, alongside smoking up the sensi- and the tell tale lyric 'just like a vinyl spinning on a deck'- it's a record, A RECORD! Ha...anyway, this is good. Musically reminiscent of early Misty and Matumbi. Then they turn into a pop reggae ska band nearer to The Selector"
22. Can you do the whole thing on your back, pretending to be off your face? Much more rock n roll. Hope it gets better soon
23. Just had a quick rub in the bedroom (pfnar) Glossy neck is definitely more sticky than the satin one. It has never been an issue live though.
24. Excellent - well done. Great to see it fixed up, and having life once more :-)
25. Keep an eye on this one.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hohner-Steinberger-Headless-Fretless-Bass-Guitar-With-Case-And-Active-Pickups-/171081745613?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27d54444cd Edit, sorry, just spotted that it's fretless
