1.
Here's a more recent live video - "Valley Of The AllyAligator Girls"
Great stuff - I think I was in the audience for that one
Budget studio job, filmed at local arts centre and featuring some gonzo dancing by local character and splendid performer Luke Hall
Great video, a whole heap of fun. I reckon our bands would be compatible on a bill if that would be doable?
2. At the Nottingham Green Festival last weekend. Our drummer is not visible in any of the shots - he's well pissed off :-D
3. Wunjo's sounds great - I'll definitely check it out when I'm next in London. I found the Gallery to be a less than pleasant experience :-(
4. I'm glad that more and more headless bass makers are eschewing a tuning system which sticks out of a bass' lumpy arse like hemorrhoids.
5. Of the (admittedly not that many) pedals I've had over the years, there is only one that I've regretted selling and had to buy another - the Low Pass Filter
6. Really digging the Matthew E White album "Big Inner", great production, and a lovely laid back gospel feel http://youtu.be/G_WcV5BSRRA

8. The funny thing is that I had the 11.5 lb bass as my sole instrument for eleven years, and played many long gigs and practices without issue. I buy a 8.5 lb five string last year, and suddenly I have a frame of reference - now the P feels really heavy!
9. My '78 P has a bit of heft at 11.5 lbs, but I'm sure there are some more ridiculously heavy beasts out there - who has the heavyweight champion? And for balance, who has the lightest?
10. Shame I don't have a record player. Downloaded and looking forward to listening to it later on.
11. I doubt my Red Iron amp is in the most popular list, in fact, afaik, there are only two Red Iron bass amps in existence, the rest being guitar amps. I also have a much more popular amp for the times I'm willing to sacrifice tone for convenience, the Streamliner 900 (still sounds great though)
12. To be honest, I don't find that situation particularly rant worthy. When I read the title, I thought that they must have cancelled you at the last minute. Basically they asked you, you agreed but warned of potential time/commitment issues, and then someone else came along who knew the material already and presumably doesn't have a child on the way. They decided to go with that chap, and let you know within two days of the initial conversation. All seems pretty reasonable to me. Saying that, the "we were doing you a favour" thing is face-saving nonsense. It's a shame, as you have proved your reliability to them in the past, but I wouldn't hold it against them. Also, is the other chap doing music for a living? If not, maybe he's cheaper
13. Stuff of life Festival, 21st Sep http://db.tt/ynV9qL85
14. What's all this about cutting strings? I've never done it; I just insert the end of the string into the middle of the post, then wind till it's in tune, making sure that the break angle is such that it will never pop out of the nut slot. Is this bad practice? Both basses keep their tune very well. Will they explode??
15.
Still some obvious names missing
Let me guess - Mesa 400+? ;-)
16. In the thirteen years I've been with Mrs RR, I've only traded one and bought one. The trade was near enough a straight swap, so no issues there, in fact she came with me. The purchase was trickier. I compiled a convincing business case, manipulating the budget and savings until I could convincingly show that we could afford to free up enough enough for this new bass AND she could have the cash equivalalent to spend on whatever she liked. Seemed to work :-)
17. Not working for me either, I've tried searching "Jamon Cahill" in Flickr but nothing comes up.
18. When your strings go dead, save the hassle of changing them by just buying a new bass.
19. It's enjoyable listening. I must admit that I struggle to get on with the vocals - not because they are in Welsh (I've felt the same when hearing your stuff done in English) but there's something to do with the timbre which doesn't sit well with me. I think that's my issue though, I think the exact thing about the critically lauded Television. I'm loving the music behind the vocals. A much less reggae feel than I was expecting, rather a gorgeous laid back funky '60s vibe. At various times I had thoughts of The Byrds, Donovon and Happy Mondays. Special mention for the Flute, which adds so much in so few notes. Great stuff :-)
20. Marlin Sidewinder - student loan Stingray - Overdraft extension Precision - trade for Stingray Ergon - from existing savings. It seems I get more sensible with age
21. I have an irrational like of deep tread on car tyres. No idea why.
22. Midi/multi FX bass, controlled wirelessly by your phone which clips onto the bass. Or something.
23.
I've tended to post my gigs in the events calendar, I will use the gig section as well in future. Jazzyve
I'd be well up for seeing you play - come to Nottingham!
24. I think it's worthwhile, but don't expect miracles. You'll need to find someone who has bothered to look at that forum, sees that your gig is local to them, is not gigging themselves, has the money, has nothing else on/can get a pass for the evening AND likes the music of Steely Dan. I'm in a similar position, in that I put up our gigs there, yet rarely (once I think) see another basschatter there to see us. I'm not that surprised, but keep plugging on regardless.
