At 52 yrs old bald and overweight I will never get to play wearing spandex with one foot on the monitor
Isn't that what bedrooms and Youtube are for?

Superb series. It's a bit like Shakespeare with Tourette's in the Wild West. I've watched this too many times and need the space. PICKUP ONLY IN NOTTINGHAM. please don't ask me to post.

What are you listening to right now?
Roland Rock replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
It's all about the lyrics today: In the car: Half Man Half Biscuit's Saucy Haulage Ballads EP In the workshop: Sleaford Mods' Austerity Dogs album. -
I know that Thomann were selling off the Warwick pro series MiK Star basses for around that sort of money earlier in the year. This however, looks like the full on German model. I think you're right to be very cautious.

**NOW GONE** Apologies to the several other people who were interested :-( For sale only is my EBS HD350 amp, complete with 2u rack bag. I really like this amp; it's loud, clear and versatile, with a lovely tone. The 2u rack bag has been well worn, but does its job as intended in that it has kept the amp in really good condition. This can go down to 2 Ohms, so you could run two 4 ohm cabs if you wanted to deafen people. I've been running it through one 4 ohm cab, and it's plenty loud enough in my band. There is a reason that this amp is a firm favourite with many bass players (including Tal Wilkenfield and Marcus Miller) as it has such great definition, is so versatile, and is built like a tank. I'm lucky enough to have several great amps, but I've decided to sell a couple to fund a cab. Price is £350 posted anywhere to mainland UK, or £335 if you collect. If you're further afield, I can get a price for you. I live in Nottingham, near Junction 26 of the M1 and you're welcome to come and inspect/try/collect. My feedback here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/169000-roland-rock/

**SOLD** For sale only is this Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2. I've been very impressed by this amp; very clear and extremely versatile. It has a very pure tone, which is helped by an inbuilt high pass filter (cutoff at 30Hz) which keeps the bottom end clean yet deep, and protects your speakers from abuse. This is bypassable if you engage the bass boost. It weighs a very light 4lbs, yet has serious volume. 500W at 8 Ohms or 900W at 4 Ohms. There's 12AX7 valve in the preamp to warm up the tone if required. It comes with the Genz Shuttle protective case. It's in really good condition. I'm selling as I have too many amps and not enough cabs! Price is £400 posted anywhere to mainland UK, or £390 if you collect. If you're further afield, I can get a price for you. I live in Nottingham, near Junction 26 of the M1 and you're welcome to come and inspect/try.

Surely this is the best pickup configuration.
Roland Rock replied to hamfist's topic in Bass Guitars

Also, you said you only wanted new, and I don't think the 6.0 is available anymore

Do you ever get comments on your profile.?
Roland Rock replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Are those comments not responses to the status updates that pop up down the side of the home page? Hence if you change your status then the old comments won't be making much sense?
Yes they are, but the comments will disappear with the old status -
They had one of those in one of the local stores. It was loud but I found it limited tonally. Need something more flexible.
For flexibility and clarity, I'd go for a Genz Shuttle 9.2. It really impressed me. Be wary of the PF500. Search on Basschat to see how many have had issues

I'd say the Aguilar Tonehammer 500 would be worth checking out. I've never heard a bad word said about these heads £629 at Bass Gear
Those Orange Terror things baffle me, they are just a box with knobs sticking out. absolute no protection for the controls or anything, a full flight case must be a requirmenent and I bet you have to be carefull putting it in that.
It's pretty common with D class amps and beyond. See examples from Markbass, Genz, Glockenklang, EBS, EA, Mesa, Aguilar, Vanderkley, Carvin etc. etc.

I advertised myself as available for a reggae band and got several responses, all relevant. That's how my current band got together.
Here's a screenshot using Natwest's currency converter. E1889 = £1440. A bit of a difference . I realise that that's probably not the true amount I'd have to pay via my bank, but I doubt it's too far off.
Not bad! I've just plugged the figures into the halifax and it would cost the following: Recipient's country GERMANY Sterling amount 1637.48 GBP Currency amount 1889.00 EUR Exchange rate: 1 GBP =1.1536EUR Our fee: 9.50 GBP Total debited from your account: 1646.98 GBP

Well done you two!
Ah!..... But who shall chose the photo?
I think one should choose a photo, and the other should photoshop it how they see fit :-D

There's a lot I didn't like, but I'm going to keep my post positive... I thought Laura Mvula was great (despite seeming to have aged ten years) and, regardless of what you think of the looks, Dave Swift's Fodera sounded superb. Edit: I only watched till about 12:30, so maybe there was better stuff after that.

Oh, and I've just grabbed the opportunity to crank the Glockenklang while the family and neighbours were out. A tiny bit of EQ fiddling later (slight bass boost, cut low mids and mid mids, flat high mids and cut treble. Bass flat and treble cut on my bass) and I have a crystal clear tone which seems to get better as you crank up the volume! Again, the word that kept popping into my head to describe the tone was 'musical'. I love the way the volume pot actually gets louder the whole way round. On the Shuttle, you seem to have reached 80% volume at 12o clock. I also think that there won't be any issues with buzzing. Looks like we have a winner!
Nice stack you have there, Sir. I just love the look of the Red Iron. I did some googling but there's not a lot of info about on them, apart from their own website. What is the power, valve configuration on it? Where did you get it? Oh so many questions, and I'm hungry to know more about them..... Cheers Geoff
Cheers! Here's the story: Back in 2005ish I decided to sell off my EA rig and go valve. It was pre Basschat so I just went through the huge list of bass amp reviews on Harmony Central to see if anything looked interesting. A review of a 100w Red Iron amp ticked all my boxes. Paul Sanchez of Red Iron in Texas usually makes low wattage guitar amps, but had made this one bass amp. Here it is: http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/reviews/productpage/product-uid/41936 So I ordered a custom 100w amp straight from Paul. 2x6SN7 valves in the pre and 2xKT88s for power. As far as I can gather, he hoards loads of quality components over time, then uses the appropriate parts for a build. It seems a bit eccentric and unorthodox, and the untidy wiring would probably make Mr Foxen wince :-D None of that matters though, as it sounds gorgeous! Deep and rich, plenty of detail and a nice bit of creamy distortion when you really dig in. It's not mega loud, but has been fine for countless gigs. It did break once, a mains transformer blew. Luckily I live very close to valve amp guru John Chambers, who made a replacement and did a few tweaks at the same time. He seemed quite confused and critical of the design, but like I say, who cares when it sounds so good! It originally came in a rustic wooden sleeve, but I found this to be a bit unnecessarily tall so made another one. Then I got bored of that, so made one a bit more in keeping with my cab: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/216904-new-casing-for-valve-amp/page__hl__red+iron__fromsearch__1 That's about it. It will always be my first choice for any rock, blues soul or funk that I play, but in my current band (reggae), I've decided that I need the ultra clean fundamental that a top quality SS amp can provide.
