1. :-) I knew the voltage was safe because I read the Manuel. It was so moorish, I just have to Javier 'nother one.

I bought a Glockenklang amp from Javier. Nice chap and the transaction was a smooth as can be. Good communication.
3. I've just taken delivery of a 230v amp from Spain. No problems whatsoever with the UK mains voltage
4. I seem to have developed a bit of an addiction lately: I had been happily using my Red Iron valve amp for years, then I bought a Streamliner 900 as a backup. Big Mistake. Now that I had that surplus amp equity, I kept browsing the Basschat marketplace, wondering what else I could acquire. I decided that I wanted ultra clean tones for my band and before I knew it, I had traded the Streamliner for a Shuttle 9.2, then jumped on a couple of bargains, an EBS HD350 and Glockenklang Soul. I'll never let the Red Iron go, but want a cleaner sound for this band. I'll need to decide which of the others I like best for this band and then sell the other two. Some thoughts so far: - I have yet to give the Glockenklang a good workout at gigging levels, but so far I think it has the best tone. The flat tone is really nice - clean, deep and musical. It does seem to be a bit overly hummy when near my single coil pickup, but I'll need to play with the band to see whether that will be an issue. - I'm really impressed with the Shuttle. It is incredibly transparent yet versatile. I don't place much value on the size/weight thing, as I find the others fine to carry about anyway. On top of my 6x10 the Shuttle reminds me of this: - The EBS is quite similar to the Shuttle. Great sounds and very versatile, but maybe with a bit more character. No mute button though It's a nice position to be in. All three are really nice amps, and I'd be happy to keep any of them. I'm getting the feeling the the Glock will edge it though...
5. On a purely superficial level, which of these recommended cabs is at least as wide as the GBE (when in a rack)? I can't abide an amp being wider than the cab.
6. I had a 2EQ '80s 'Ray for four odd years. Lovely bass. The build quality and playability were superb. However, I happened to try out a '78P in a music shop one day, and loved it so much I went home and traded that 'Ray for it that day. Thirteen years on and no regrets.
7.
I had flats on my P and my Jazz basses, but really disliked the feel and felt they couldn't capture a sound that rounds could!
Obviously the feel thing is subjective, but I agree about rounds having a sound that flats can't capture, which is the reason I have them on another bass. The reason that I didn't mention it is that I was trying to answer the OP's question.
8. .... Back on topic.... I had flats on my 'Ray and always have them on my P. Why? Because they feel great and have a sound that rounds can't quite capture. So why not put them on cheaper basses? Simple, I love playing the ones I have. Also, I think that when it comes to five string basses, it's really difficult to get a good sounding B string on the budget end of the market. This may be largely irrelevant though, as I suspect that most people with five string basses will use rounds.
9. On the plus side, My '78 P would be light as a feather ;-)
10. I'd say the main difference is that you wouldn't hear anything! Sound waves are longitudinal (unlike light waves, which are transverse) and need a medium like air or water in which to travel. As space is (more or less) a vacuum, the sound waves can't travel. Edit: of course I'm talking about playing in space itself. If you're talking about playing in a space station or something where there is air, that's different. If that's the case, perhaps change the title, substituting 'space' for 'zero gravity' :-)
11. Great stuff everyone. Thanks Dad for the spoiler tutorial. I'm going to test it now...
Dad got my vote this time round. It really captured the quirky humour of the picture and was a really well composed piece. Well done all. Skol was a close second
15.
Thanks!
Haha
16. You obviously like the 'less zingy' sound, so why not give flats a go. They feel great too I'd recommend Status, whether flat or round
17. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting any bass-related stuff, but I think I'll put any crimbo money towards some mods and a re valve of my amp
18. Can I have four? Jack deJohnette - various jazz/fusion Jimmy Chamberlin - Smashing Pumpkins Zigaboo Modeliste - Meters Nelson Miller - Burning Spear
19.
Nice. Orange working well with maple and white there. is it Capri Orange?
Cheers, not original finish, but I refinished it in Capri Orange, also I changed the black pickguard for an off-white one and added black screws to to make the whole thing consistent with the 'international series' that the Capri belongs to. As I bought it stripped, and I kept all the original bits, I consider it no less original now :-)
20. Really good video, great editing. I love the headphone monkey :-D Standout favourites for me were the Gibson RD, the Ric with mutes and the Precision. My least favourites were the Starcaster and the EB2 Well done and thanks.
21. I'd recommend Bear Straps. Great quality, and, as above, you can dictate style, colour and length
22.
I don't agree with this. I think the cabs are very good. Sound very good (which is the main thing). I have questioned the price and (relative) quality - but I generally think they are good. I think this post is very harsh and don't agree with it. But I'm out. Like a lot of people, I'm now bored with the topic. As I no longer own or intend to own one, I won't look at, respond to, or read anything about Barefaced from now on.
In case you're still reading this thread:-) I initially thought that that post was serious, but then realised that it's meant to be ironic. It's a fanboi in disguise!
23. I traded my 'Ray in for a P twelve years ago, and not a moment's regret. The Stingray looked lovely, was very well built and played beautifully, but I just couldn't get on with the tone, especially in a band mix.
24. Enjoy your breakfast :-D I have no idea who this is. Do you wear socks while playing bass? Is this you?
25. Got enough gain there!? Great amps, good luck with the sale
