1. I'm far from the tightest player out there, but everything I've recorded sounds (in my opinion) great! It also took me listening to isolated tracks by famous bass players to be confident in my abilities
2. I'm in a heavy metal band and also a thrash band. All fingers! I did try using a pick to get more of a Jason Newsted kind of vibe, but with my level of playing ability I just couldn't nail it!
3. The gig every time, I don't need any more ladies hassling me
4. Has anybody put Entwistle neos in an active bass? I'm considering doing this as my Tragic IV with the 18v preamp, amazingly, sounds tame compared to my passive basses with them in
5.
What did you get Chris ????
This little beauty. PXD Tragic!
6. I've had my eye on this for a while. Absolute bargain for a USA model, but I literally bought another Peavey the other week
7. 2006 was the year I finally got my own "prpoer" amp, I had already been playing bass for two years at that point! Peavey International Series 4 string (my first bass, which I still own for sentimental reasons) Laney R5 300w 2x10 combo I think I was using Ernie Ball strings at the time No pedals! Very respectable setup for the £350 I paid for the lot.
8. I played HRH Metal the other week and the backline was All Marshall and Eden cabs. I went through a 2x12 (I think), and was really happy with the sound from it. Definitely one of my favourite cabs I've played with by a very long way, very similar to my sealed Markbass 4x10!
9.
Thanks for all the feedback - its much appreciated! My band is in a metal competition, with the winners getting a place at the Bloodstock festival. I think this justifies spending the money!!!
Won this two years ago. I use a sansamp and a b3k together. Got a lot of praise about the bass after we played our set in the final. If that doesn't sell it I don't know what will
10. This was my first proper gigging amp, it's really decent especially with an extra cab!
11. I've used the DI on my Sansamp and my Zoom B3 a couple of times without an amp and have both performed admirably. I can vouch for either
12. Best of luck mate. The only regret I have about taking part in M2TM is winning it two years ago, meaning I can no longer take part! It's a great experience and you get to network with a lot of good bands you might not have had the chance to check out before
13. I love mine. Hardly ever use it but it's got a permanent place in my collection
14. I know a lot of bassists who wish people would pay attention to them more onstage. This would be perfect
15. For me personally, I haven't been able to replicate the sound I want on any active bass within my budget. But mostly, I'm too lazy to bother with batteries 😁
16. Everyone who enters wins, I've won loads of the metal ones, never been but apparently they're really good events. I hope so as I'm playing "HRH Metal" in Birmingham next month haha
17. John Entwistle played an Explorer bass for bloody ages didn't he? I don't recall anyone criticising him for playing something seemingly inappropriate
18. I'd sooner use second hand toilet paper than play strings that have had some dudes grubby mitts all over them. That said, when buying a used car, you don't expect four brand new tyres and a full tank do you? What part of "used" he doesn't understand is beyond me. Cheeky git!
19. Haha nice! I was tempted by this as well, but as I was buying a car at the same time I thought I'd better behave myself! There's a nice looking Fury at the moment though....
20.
Out of interest, if you want to use one cab with the ability to add another cab later do you go for a 4 or 8 ohm cab ?
8 ohms mate, two together makes 4 ohms. I use a single 8 ohm cab in case I wAnted to expAnd lAter but I totally don't need to!
21. Super tempted by that Foundation, hmmmmmm, do I really need 8 basses?
22. I always bring a spare bass, and one extra of every type of cable I have in case one gets lost or broken. I also bring a spare Markbass head as it's small enough to fit in my bag of leads and tools, but as long as you have a DI you'll be fine if your amp fails
23.
Dunlop Super Bright nickels, or standard D'Addario nickels are the brightest I know of.
I'd have suggested exactly the same strings Also, stainless steel Elixirs, the coating makes them silky smooth and you won't lose all your top end after a few weeks!
24. I always use my amp input. That way I can, for example, roll back the low end for certain rooms without having to touch my pedal settings.
25. Mate, it's better to be excessively careful than to go in blind! But yeah the advice you've had so far I would follow. I only change string gauges if they feel too tight or loose to play in whichever tuning I use
