1. Id love to see a white one with black hardware!
2.
You far from Newton Abbot ? The Zodiac DE on eBay is a good bass and the £180 is a good price. Only concern is I don't see the "Basslines" logo on the pickups, might have worn off but I'd be asking the seller to confirm.
I spoke to the seller a while back. He said they are the original SD 1/4 pounders and he saw the bass fresh out the box in the shop. Of course, it's a load of rubbish, as the pole pieces on those pickups are supposed to be larger, and not stick out further than the plastic covers.
3. I had my refund issued today. I have also just received a call from Adam at Stringbusters asking if I had received an email from PayPal, which I confirmed I had. He also asked me if I would like an explanation as to what happened, but I politely stated that I was not interested. The time for excuses would have been within a few days of taking my money. I appreciate them calling me, but in my opinion this is too little too late and I will never be taking my business there again. It does however mean there's a chance that other people who have been left out of pocket will be put right eventually though!
4. Unbelievable. Did you pay using PayPal? Buyers protection is a godsend. I should have my money back next week. Even if they respond at the last minute offering to send my stuff I'll decline. I'm not doing business with people who treat their customers like that.
5. I thought I should update this thread. I have still had no response from Stringbusters after they took my money. No response on the phone, no emails, and I even sent them a Facebook message which has been read but ignored. I opened a dispute with PayPal which has been escalated. They have until the 23rd to respond but so far there hasnt been any acknowledgement whatsoever. I would recommend that nobody uses these guys again. It's fair enough for a company to run into problems, but there's absolutely no excuse for this behaviour. I cant even buy replacement strings elsewhere until I get my money back because buying Elixirs in bulk isn't cheap! Anybody know of anywhere else I can get these without paying through the nose?
6. I've gone direct using a Sansamp BDDI, blended in with another gain pedal with excellent results. The way I set my rig up I could quite happily gig without an amp, mine is basically a glorified monitor
7.
This sounds very odd to me. Almost the polar opposite of those who never change their strings.
People always ask how I break so many strings. Poor technique
8. I break a string at least two or three times a year, and any one of those times could be on a gig. I always take a spare bass! My tone is all from my pedalboard which has two DIs on it so I'm sorted if the amp fails. If the pedalboard fails I will just have to go direct to the amp and live with not having lots of compression and gainto hide behind 😉
9. I've just got over a really painful ear infection which left me almost totally deaf in one ear for an entire month. Late to the party but I'm going to buy a pair of those Flare Audio ones when pay day rolls around as I know my hearing is getting bad after 12 years of gigs and I have been very stupid in that time! Its terrible that it took the universe giving me such an extreme warning to take protecting my ears seriously really.
10. I take the pee out of guitarists all the time, although the majority of them know much more theory than I do
11.
see now at the risk of sounding snobby, if im using a di i should know how to use it.
Behringer Ultra DI I'll bet, the silver coloured one. They suck pretty bad, you lose a lot of clarity in your sound with those. Its probably the frequencies that they cut that caused the clipping
12.
I like the stageclix, Built like a brick outhouse, 2.4 MHz and can select channels so little chance of interfering with other users. Mains powered receiver, transmitter has its own rechargable battery which charges when plugged into receiver. I find if I leave it charging after set up and befor playing, it will charge fully, so no batteries or separate chargers to faf about with
I have the Stageclix Jack and have been using it for 4 years, it's great. Apparently you get interference when using it with active basses but it works perfectly with my Tragic with its 18v pre-amp.
13. I used to think they were ugly too but my tastes changed when I fell in love with the sound of a PJ configuration. There's a few companies that do split coils in soapbar covers like EMG and Nordstrand, I don't know about single coil sized covers though.
14. I've also been using these guys for years with no issues, but my most recent order from 25th April is still "Awaiting Dispatch". I did send an email Friday asking for an update but it's probably too soon to expect a reply yet. I don't like to sound impatient but when you spend a couple of hundred quid on strings a time you don't expect crap service!
15. Christ, this is a fantastic deal. I paid 350 for my 4x10 version. If I wasn't 100% happy with it if be sorely tempted!
16. One of my favourite inexpensive 4x10s is the Peavey TVX410. Super heavy but I've seen them for sale used between £50 - £100. They're not too boomy in the lows, not too muted or too harsh in the upper range like a lot that I've tried tend to be. My favourite of all time though is the Markbass CL104 that I have had for a number of years. It's all of the above but much more present in the mids, again without being too harsh or "honky". Bonus points for being light. Also it looks lovely, unlike the ugly yellow speakers in their current cab range. Cost me £350 used... Very hard to find though!
17. Oh God, it's black and rosewood with blades... Finally one comes along and I don't have the cash!
18.
None total rubbish, tbh just means he's to lazy as he might have to re eq for the new di
I sort of agree with this, however it's not necessarily due to laziness. He's probably had bad experiences with really hot signals clipping and even overloading the desk. An unprocessed signal from a bass can throw out some pretty nasty spikes even at low levels. I played an all dayer at the weekend where many bassists DI'd and the results were mixed depending on if they had pedals or whether their basses were active/passive. I naturally took my full rig and had the best sound of the night
19. I fitted one to my Zodiac BXP at the weekend. I tried both the brass and the stainless steel saddles and the difference was huge. Not what I expected! Brass made it sound really fat and warm, and tamed a lot of the upper mid-range and highs. Steel made it sound almost the same as the stock bridge, very open and with a focus on upper mid-range punch (exactly what I was Looking for). Except it still made everything sound "bigger", "warmer", and I no longer had a lack of low end when I played up the dusty end of the neck. Weight is obviously more than the stock bridge but this bass has a very subtle neck dive issue. Not enough to cause issues but it's definitely balanced a lot better now! All in all I think it was a decent upgrade, and hopefully I won't have to keep replacing worn saddles and breaking strings like I usually do!
20. There are some horrible people about
21. I've had mine for a couple of years, and I won't be getting rid of it. As I use quite a lot of compression and overdrive the difference was immediately noticeable! I have the Micro Thumpinator as the first thing in my signal chain, followed by the comp and then drive. The result is a much less squashy feel from the compressor, and more consistent level of "distortion" across all the strings, and more headroom from the amp. Also I can turn up louder on stage to hear myself without being politely asked by the guitarist the other side of the stage to turn down!
22. This could be pretty handy, as I spent close to 2k on my current pedalboard and seems a bit pointless taking it to less important gigs. Is it possible to use the "fuzz" without the envelope filter?
23. I never realised the T45 had 21 frets. I had a quick Google Image Search and found a picture of a 40 and 45 together, with 21 and 20 frets respectively. I guess they had been neck swapped?
24. In all honesty mate, I would buy all three second hand and A/B/C them. I actually use two sometimes three "gain" pedals (plus a compressor) stacked to get my tone
25. Compression and/or overdrive will get you pretty close I use a regular sansamp so the Vintage would be my personal preference of the two you've mentioned.
