I keep reading on here about how good Bass Direct are, but in my experience, they are not the 'holier than thou' retailer they are painted to be on here.
+1 They have got probably the best selection of bass gear, but customer service is awful. My girlfriend bought me a Darkglass B3K for Christmas from the online shop, and when it came it was so badly packaged that the knobs were covered in scratches. I know that's only cosmetic damage, but it was so bad that she contacted them to ask if it was second hand. Not what you expect if you pay full price... Especially because you can get one used on here in better condition for a lot less! Cue a condescending email from Mark, which included a comment along the lines of "To be fair love, it's designed to be stepped on" I don't know if that's his general attitude, or because he assumed my girlfriend was some kind of bimbo. Apparently he'd only changed his tune when she replied to him from her work email (she's a lawyer working for a large firm), but the solution was still one I would have been unhappy with. He told her to pull the knobs off and post them back and he would send replacements I'm happy with my pedal and everything, but Bass Direct are lucky that they didn't lose a sale from it being returned under the distance selling regulations (even though they have lost any future business from me)

Weird design, but I bet it looks good on. Dean basses always seem to sound really good too

I don't know but they're ok as a band. Try checking out a track or two on YouTube?

My best friend once got very drunk and tried to fit a floyd rose to his guitar using a screwdriver and a rolling pin

Anyone ever seen a condescending advert for a bassist?

The guitar players must have been pretty sh*te to be worried about being upstaged by one of us lot -
... plus to me there's a bit of faux HDR or tonal contrast post processing going on with the image...
It does scream "instagram" a little bit too much -

SG guitars look rubbish with shiny finishes anyway -
I've only heard/used Markbass or Genz Benz with this cab. They were both very different but very very good!

I've used the DI out on my Zoom B3 live and it's VERY good indeed for the cash, even if you don't use the amp sims and effects!

I use WD40

Today this happened to me and it involves precision basses
chrismuzz replied to Geek99's topic in General Discussion
I used to hate P basses with a passion, until I heard one used properly. New strings and a bit of overdrive makes for a lovely result -
I always always DI. It's easier, less chance of overspill or feedback, and the sound quality is probably 99% as good as the best mic anybody would reasonably want to buy just to mic up a bass amp.

I've tried Warwick Reds and I didn't really like them. They seemed a bit too muddy compared to the steels I normally use. However I'm using a set of the EMP coated strings on my 6 string and they're absolutely great. Really big but clear low end, nice aggressive but not overbearing treble when you dig in, and a lovely low mid growl to them. Definitely worth the money if they last half as long as the Elixirs I normally use!
Sorry to keep banging on about this, but could someone answer a simple question for me please? If I wanted to sell a genuine Rickenbacker product on Basschat (if there wasn't a ban) and there was absolutely no question as to it's authenticity, would there be any legal ramifications?
Good question. We'd need to find out from the horses mouth if there would be any way to prove beyond all doubt that a bass is genuine. I think that if there was it would still be quite difficult to ensure that everyone who sells one on here follows the guidelines. It's probably easier and safer to just avoid it altogether by banning them. Again, its a shame but the decision would only have been made if it was the only viable option
I thought the trouble was over Ric copies and not the real thing. There must be shops/dealers selling secondhand/vintage Rics and openly trading surely? Can't the BC rule be that real Rics are ok, sales of copies not allowed?
I totally agree. The problem is that even if somebody unknowingly puts up a copy for sale, we'd still be liable.

I agree with all the sentiments. They ARE iconic basses, I'd wanted to try one for about 10 years before I'd actually got my hands on one and I wasn't disappointed with the sound or the look (It was a blue one by the way ) I don't know what the logistics would be like. I'm assuming that the reason they were banned was because it was either not possible, or would be extremely difficult to have a system in place where we were covered against any potential legal issues. I do hope we can sort something out though!

Nice Precision style pickup...

Anybody tired of the bass guitar merry-go-round ?
chrismuzz replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
A five string peavey grind is the bass I owned the longest. Lovely piece of kit. Simple, heavy, solid and bombproof. Looks pretty cool with the mahogany and maple I think it was
Absolutely, I've got a couple of Grinds! The Newer ones are also available in black, and I'm sure the upper mids are a bit punchier! -

I don't have this problem with basses, since I exclusively play peaveys... only strings so it's a bit cheaper -
Appearance of you and band on stage - clothing opinions?
chrismuzz replied to Diablo's topic in General Discussion
Jeans and a t shirt or vest every time for me! But I always try to make sure my least baggy clothes are clean -
bass buzzing till i touch something metal
chrismuzz replied to alanday1975's topic in Repairs and Technical
Sounds like a grounding issue. I Had the pickup cavity covered in copper tape to help a little bit but I'm sure there's a less devaluing way of sorting your Ric out! -
Tough one! I've tried many of the mass produced ones over the years. Checking out YouTube videos can give you a vague idea, but depending on your playing style they may still sound very different. Saying that, the Ashdown Lomenzo is a great starting point with a low price!
-
Man that is ridiculous. At this stage I'd just be requesting my money back. Somebody clearly doesn't care about their work!

Either get another bass, or get n EQ pedal to get an approximation of that flatwound sound without the expense and hassle... I know what I'd do.... Both!!
