Screws AND springs!
-
Well I've finally had a play around with the neo set. First thoughts are quite short and sweet: P pickup? MEATY! Incredibly loud and chunky but without sounding muddy. The low end is certainly piano like. J pickup? Very nice! I don't really like the sound of them on their own but it's a lot less weedy than any other I've tried. Sounds very good with overdrive though! Together? This is how I always play PJ basses, both pickups on full. I'm loving this. The J pickup isn't nearly as loud as the P but they compliment each other beautifully. Oh and with regards to noise: the J isn't dead silent but considering how much I mess around with the signal it's very impressivem quietest single coil I've ever used that's for sure! All in all a perfect pickup. Definitely higher quality and more musical than the SD quarter pounders that cost double the amount. I haven't played the bass with a full band yet so I won't known if I prefer it but I'm feeling positive

Haven't had a chance to try mine yet believe it or not! I imagine the neo ones would be higher output... Possibly with more emphasis on the upper midrange as that's what I've experienced with neo speakers. I have an actual free day on Monday so fingers crossed ill be able to check ot out
What do you think if the behringer, is it any good? Was thinking of picking one up at the moment to see if I like it.
It's worth a try definitely! It's really more for tone shaping and lower drive settings but in my experience that or Sansamp work very well with other drive pedals. Try it with a used Ashdown Lomenzo pedal and you'll have a face ripping sound for well under £100! I've got a couple of bedroom bass covers on my youtube channel using those two together to give you a faint idea but you can do so much more with them! Best way to tell the wife..... ' I've just bought a new bass !'
I once bought a strat off eBay, had it sent to work, dismantled it completely during lunchbreak, smuggled the bits home and then announced that I was going to make up a guitar from spare bits & pieces that I had accumulated over the years. The plan worked.
Hahaha that's amazing I'm almost disappointed that all I have to do is say "Oh yeah, I got a new bass today" -
Sounds like it does, although it doesn't have a blend, which I find is useful for that kind of tone.
Ooh! I didn't even THINK to check if it had a blend. I guess I assumed high end drive pedals would do I guess that's out then, I'll stick to my B3K/Sansamp/Lomenzo combo!

Is it actually supposed to be a "thumbs up"?
You're better off getting something that'll do something close to this sound but more, what I've found is people get a B3K, love it for about 6 months and then eventually sell it on for something a bit more versatile. For a metal tone, I've always recommended these, it's got a much loved gate, which is good for metal http://youtu.be/wnkVsllF7vs?t=3m42s
The Empress Heavy? I can't listen to this at the moment as I'm at work, but after a quick nose online I'm very interested in this! Is it capable of that nasty clanky sound that you get from the B3k?
I play slides when we do Bluest Blue, sounds great, feels fine...man up Chris lol
I have been spoilt by the girly softness of Elixirs I think

I would always go for the combo with an external speaker out, otherwise you'll only need a second rig for gigs anyway!
It's those square fifty watt things that make those horrible squealing noises
I have never seen a guitarist turn up to a gig with "only" 50 watts

Blimey, I wonder if they offer collection..

Anybody in need of a cold shower? -
That's awesome, great guy and way beyond the call of duty!

They do look wicked! Sound pretty good too but they dull very quickly and the coating does flake off. Also don't do any sliding when they're on, you'll burn your fingers off!

Personal preference in most cases especially if you have PA support. I prefer 10" speakers though!

Rotosound Outstanding Customer Service
chrismuzz replied to Thunderbird's topic in Accessories and Misc
Rotosound have been praised many times for their customer service Elixir and DR are also very quick to put any issues right -
I've got to recommend the Peavey Grind series. 35" scale, but very comfortable to play. And even with the stock pickups they've got a nice punch and growl to them! They go up for sale second hand very often
35" scale is IME a complete red herring. It's all in the construction whether or not the B-string sounds any good. Any manufacturer capable of making a 35" scale bass with s decent low B is equal capable of making one with a 34" scale. By all means go for a 35" scale bass if you like the fret spacing, but don't assume that the one extra inch will make the B-string sound and feel better. Of all the decent priced 5 string bases I have owned, the two with the 35" scale length had the poorest sounding and feeling B-stings. If simply want scale length to solve your problems you need to go to at least 36".
This is a very valid point! But I tuned the B on the above mentioned bass down to an octave below a low E, just out of pure curiosity... Still had a pretty bright punchy sound, even with a .130 gauge string!
-
That is really cool!!
-
The Neodymium PJ set arrived this morning, very well packed! They are ridiculously heavy and the magnets are so powerful it takes some effort to pull the pickups apart if they get near each other! As soon as I get a new set of strings I'll be chucking them in and tuning them down to C#!
I wish this was the case with the local bike festival down my way. I am a biker and have been going to it since it started. I met the guy who books the bands at a bike night, in my bike gear, and introduced myself etc and gave him our card and explained who we are and that loads of people wonder why we don't play the festival. Didn't get a look in the for the next festival. Will try again this year for the next one. One problem is I heard he won't book a band if he even thinks they are too heavy!
Haha! I played a bike festival once. In the 9 years they'd been doing them they had never had a mosh pit... until we arrived! We haven't been booked since
