1. It's a shame you're not a bit further north, the venues in my Gig list in my Sig are incredible places to gig! There are a few in the West Midlands which might not be too far out of reach? Have a look anyway!
2.
The shape is pretty much the best thing about it IMO.
I reckon you'd be the only person on Basschat who would look cool as f*** onstage playing one of these
3.
I told a fellow Bass player in a Band at the Pizza Express in Dean Street I had a Warwick Star Bass. He asked me if I was into Bootsy Collins......
Hahaha only us anoraks would get that!
4. If it was me, overdrive or a simple low/low mid boost
5. Great post I like D'Addarios and Elites a lot, which are cheap in comparison. I tried DRs based on not only the colour, but the fact that they are coated and supposedly last longer, which would make them worth the money. I found they actually died faster than any other strings I've ever used! The only coated strings I have tried that have actually performed as the manufacturer claims are Elixirs. I beat my strings to death and they lasted just over a year with very gradual degradation of tone. I only really noticed a change just before I changed them, which I only did because I broke one! I'm currently trying out Warwick EMPs, which sounded incredibly aggressive for the first few gigs, but again have lost their brightness fairly quickly. I don't know how I manage to kill these "super strings" so fast!
6. That is AWESOME! I think the thing I'm most impressed with is the major bridge upgrade
7.
You should be fine - bert had a plethora of pedals too, including a Fission Bass Powerchord...
Haha well!... I ended up swapping out the Quarter Pounder in the bridge of my other one to a Hot Stack, and it only marginally decreased the noise. I'm actually quite excited about the result
8.
Great - I would be very interested to know what you think. Bertbass has a PJ set in his P bass and they sound very good - no noise issues, either.
I'll be the perfect candidate to test noise issues, stacking between 2 and 4 drive pedals
9.
I had quarter pounders way back in early 2000 and struggling to remember the tone of them, but dont remember going ' wow' when hearing them in my bass for the first time, unlike these beauties
Interesting... I Really like the Quarter Pounders, but I've just ordered a neodymium PJ set of the Entwistles. See how it goes!!
10. Woo! I love these basses I've got two 6 string models. They do have great necks and a really punchy tone. The newer mahogany ones have a bit too big of a bridge so you definitely got one of the better models. Enjoy it!
11.
MarkBass CMD102p
+1 I heard somebody using a low end BC Rich bass with a P pickup in it, through my old Markbass rig. If you closed your eyes you'd think it was the real deal!!
12. I was thinking of replacing the stock pickups in my other Peavey Zodiac with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders to match my Scorpio model, but seriously considering some of the Entwistle Neo ones instead.. anybody got any idea how they compare?
13. That's gorgeous! Good thing it's active otherwise I'd be spending my holiday money on this
14. I'd go for relief first also, about a 1/4 turn on the truss rod.. Then temporarily set the saddles just so that I can have a play. Adjust it every day or two until its just right!
15. Ahh! I've had this problem with 35" scale basses before, annoying! You could mess about pulling the cotton off the string until it's past the nut for now, it shouldn't cause too much of an issue. In future just look for Extra Long Scale strings. A fair few brands do them for an extra quid or too. If I remember correctly D'Addario strings are very long anyway, so I've never had to actually shell out for the Extra Long ones. Hope that helps!
16. I like the cabinet. A lot! ...The amp bit on the top looks bollocks though
17.
Peavey gear is still sh*t though, having owned some
Careful now
18. Clean/Warm/Lightweight/Quiet? From experience I would go Markbass every time
19. I actually did a proper ghetto recording going from the tuner out on the back of the amp to the mic in on my laptop
20.
I've only ever broken one bass string---it was the E string on the very first note of the very first song at a gig
Not a big deal then!
21. I've broken a string once on stage, and also has a jack socket come loose resulting in no sound at all! I never take a spare bass, so I had to quickly tune my 6 string from standard tuning half a step down and drop the E to a C# mid song.. nightmare!
22.
+1 - Lot's of 'lows' and low bass really doesn't work for me. Low mids/ top of upper bass are where the punch is...IMO/IME.
For some reason my old Laney 2x10 combo always sounded amazing boosting around 300Hz
23. I actually tend to cut the bass a little bit, even when tuning down to A. Especially on my old Markbass 4x10 that claimed a frequency range from 35Hz! The 'bigness' of the sound is all in the mids anyway, and too much bass tends to make things a bit muddy.
24.
You could "upgrade" your cab to somthing louder for not much money at all... (< £100)
Yup. Peavey cabs are a good example. Dirt cheap second hand, and built to last!
25. If it was me it would be 8x10 all the way, my guitarist gets distressed enough standing his 1x12 combo next to my 6x10 rig. I might start to feel bad if I went much bigger than that...
