Markbass - all made in Indonesia now and heavy?
chrismuzz replied to phatbass787's topic in Amps and Cabs
IIRC Marco said that some amps would still be made in Italy, but I dont know which ones. Crazy how much the prices have dropped on Thomann! Tempted to get one of their heads again. Nothing I've used since has had the clarity or the power! -
Nice In my experience combining the Sansamp with the B3k makes for some interesting results...

If it does, I've half a mind to win the auction and see how angry he gets when I start haggling
Don't know how long a warranty Markbass offer, glad I registered it when I bought it though.
Something tells me when I took mine out it was 2 years but I never had to make a claim. Might just be one year but their after sales care is good either way. -
Got an email today from Riccardo in customer services. He has offered to either send me another handle or said it can be replaced by their Service Assistance in UK. Obviously gone for the send it and I'll fit it myself option so hopefully won't take too long to arrive. He says they only had this problem reported before after years of hard usage? Maybe I just had a dodgy batch of weak plastic? Hope new handle fairs much better. I also sent a pic for their perusal of the offending part.
Good of him to get back to you A nice touch that you were given the option to have the part sent, or to have it repaired by their Service Assistant. To be fair it doesn't surprise me that the problem has not been reported much in the past. Most people treat their equipment as if it was made of glass, especially if they've paid good money for it! Not saying you've abused yours (even if you wanted to, you didn't get the opportunity!).. Hopefully they will take this feedback onboard and improve the quality of the strap fixings... Or preferably do away with them altogether and go for the far superior recessed handles that they use on their larger cabinets! EDIT: I realise its not the manufacturer's responsibility to ensure that ham fisted pillocks like me don't knacker their gear, but it would be nice -

+1 to the above. Customer service has always been very good with Markbass. I imagine it's only due to it being the weekend that you haven't had a reply yet, and I'd be surprised if you didn't receive a response tomorrow! -
Maybe get one of those bypass looper pedals with a blend knob on it? Maybe even stick an EQ pedal after it in the loop. It would make it incredibly versatile and would save you having to open up the pedal!
They sound like D'Addario Chromes.
He must be playing them through a pretty loud amp if you can hear that -
chrismuzz, I like the F1 very much. How you finding the BAM 210?
Awesome! The rhythm guitarist hates it, so it's obviously doing its job correctly I only really use the Freddie K setting with the amp sim turned off live. It doesn't have that nasty sting that I loved about the F1 but it sits in a metal mix really nicely! Onboard effects are impressive, but I only use them at home -
What real differences have you guys found between the F1 and the LM2/3??. Would be interested to hear differences.
In my experience the LM2 sounds more organic and warm but still clean and clear The F1 is tighter, with more brittle upper mids and aggressive top end. It's possible to make the F1 sound very much like the LM series by cutting a little upper midrange and a tiny touch of the filters, but I think you'd struggle to make the LM sound like an F1. How are you getting on with yours? -
If you want to explore Amp Sims..... I would keep your Markbass, as it is fairly neutral (my LM2 seems to be!).
100% this. Amp sims and especially drives pair better with Markbass heads because they're clear and relatively uncoloured... and in the mix is where they shine!. A lot of amps have an inherent tone or cut in the upper mids which makes effects stand out less.
-
Hmm.. tough one! As far as micro heads go Markbass have been the best I've used by far. I wouldn't say the F1 is bland or dull, if anything it stands out TOO much! Maybe try some different strings? I've found that stainless steel strings are ridiculously aggressive through this amp and often had to turn down the upper mids a little bit (Especially when using drive) By the way, I DO realise the hypocrisy here... I traded mine for a Peavey BAM combo Maybe wait for the Peavey MiniMega to come out?
-
Good call I really like these strings. I got them to make me a custom stainless steel set and they lasted a really long time! Customer service is perfect too.
I had some Custom moulds made at the bass show in London this year. They were really good but If you do any singing, smiling or talking on stage it is worth asking for an open mouth mould to be made as they fit a bit more snugly. The ones I had done leaked sound in round the sides of the insert if I smiled or laughed on stage. Something aways happens to make me smile. The Custom IEM company have been great in organising for me to have a fresh open mouth mould taken. Hopefully all will be well this time.
Cheers for the hint about open mouth moulds! Nobody's ever mentioned that before and it'll save me a lot of trouble

How do you enter the stage..so to speak...at a gig?
chrismuzz replied to Jigster's topic in General Discussion
Last gig we entered the stage to PJ and Duncan's "let's get ready to rumble" Mich to the bemusement or our audience -
Selling for a living, I can tell you it's bloody frustrating sometimes! Not an excuse for such an off putting listing but it's at least understandable!

Best strings for 4 string bass - drop c tuning
chrismuzz replied to dom2113's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've got a bass tuned to C# standard with DR DDTs and 115 is perfect. They hold their tension better than other strings of the same gauge when tuning down. Expensive but worth a try! -
Pretty happy - paid gigs almost every week. May finally start making more doing gigs than I spend on music equipment!
That's what I said when I joined my band. Since then I've replaced my entire rig and bought 4 basses Congratulations and well done for all your hard work!

Basschatters and their gear in Bass Guitar Magazine
chrismuzz replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
This I like! Means I'll get to plug the band a little bit too -
Oh dear - oversharing!
That's more polite than how my girlfriend puts it...

You might want to set the P pickup a bit lower because if the string gets anywhere near it you get one hell of a racket! Probably won't affect you if you play properly but my right hand technique is quite aggressive
-
Aww I didn't get foam had to use the foam from my old pickups. Life is so hard!
