My name is Chris, and I have an unhealthy fascination with Peavey. Worst of all, my girlfriend doesn't seem to have too much of a problem with me owning 6 basses, which makes me wonder how many I can fill our small bungalow with until it causes a problem

The Importance of Artwork & Logos
chrismuzz replied to stingraybassman's topic in General Discussion
Interesting question, I've never really thought about it! Potentially a band's logo, if they become famous, could be worth millions! But nobody would be willing to pay anywhere near that as a startup band.. -
Coldplay album review. (Possibly a bit harsh!! :) )
chrismuzz replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
I'm only halfway through and i'm wiping away the tears -
Traded my Markbass F1 for Martyn's Peavey BAM 210 combo on the way to a gig. He printed off a copy of the 10 million page manual and even made me a coffee while giving me a quick run down of how to use it. Very pleased with the transaction, thanks!

Haha, it's been years since I saw this! I'm actually a little disappointed that it wasn't a dodgy episode that had slipped through the net and ended up being aired

As above, chorus and possibly reverb are your friends here. Too much treble can make it sound harsh and sloppy especially if you use a tweeter!
I can only reach to fret 3 with my 4th finger! I have to move my whole hand to get to fret 4
I generally use my 4th finger on the 3rd fret when I can because it's more comfortable than stretching. The one finger per fret technique is useful but not always possible at the lower end of the neck!

That is fabulous
You might not need to buy an amp. If you're just noodling around at home then you can use a guitar amp, just don't crank it up too loud (the bass frequencies can damage the speakers if you drive them too hard). For gigging or playing loudly you'd need a "proper" bass amp though.
Good call! I spent the first year of my bass playing life plugging into the Mic In on an old record player. It had a 7 band EQ so I could get a pretty sick tone

I love the look of the Walnut ones, and there's not much to say about the sound. As has been said before, "It's a Ric!" From an aesthetic point of view I'd prefer a darker wood on the fretboard but that's about it

Hey! Hope you're enjoying your time here so far If you've been looking at Squiers already you've started in a good place. The classic vibe ones get a lot of love especially within the budget. Buying used on here tends to be the best way, the majority members really look after their gear! Amp suggestions could be endless, but for a good starting point on a budget I'd always recommend Peavey. If you can get used to the weight they sound great and are near indestructible! Other good brands I've personally used and liked are Hartke, Laney, and Ashdown.

Practice moving your entire hand up to the next note in quick succession and it will come naturally. Over the year of playing stupid metal riffs I can go from the 6th fret on the A string to the first fret on the E string very comfortably using just my index finger. You can do it!
The bottom line is....... If your band has a Guitard and/or DrumHitter that are not working towards a balanced overall sound, it doesn't matter if you use 10", 12" or 15" speakers. ....it will sound crap anyway!!!
Luckily both my guitarist use 1x12 combos so they're no match for a 6x10

I've seen a few really incredible tribute bands (Higher On Maiden, and Lez Zeppelin for example), but there are a few out there that are bit ropey! Always worth a look for a decent night out

Help - need something small, light, and loud!
chrismuzz replied to lukeward2004's topic in Amps and Cabs
I reckon a combo is the way to go. I currently use a 2x10 combo which is enough for most gigs and easy to transport. I also have a 4x10 extension cabinet for when i want overkill (which is every single gig ) -
From everything I've head about modern speaker technology, the size of the cone doesn't make all that much difference. But in my experience my favourite cabs have all been loaded with 10's, plus they look cooler

Markbass - all made in Indonesia now and heavy?
chrismuzz replied to phatbass787's topic in Amps and Cabs
Prices have definitely taken a drop, and considering that they test in Indonesia, then retest in Italy before distributing its probably still a fair price. -
It is a bit of an ideological U-turn, isn't it?
That's what I thought. It was a bit of an overreaction but I ended up selling/trading my Markbass rig on the back of this. I can't deny the stuff is top notch quality, but I wasn't as in love with the brand as I was when I first got it. And I'm actually much more suited to my Peavey rig even if it does weigh 4x as much!! -

Yep I remember all this from when I got my old Markbass rig. That's why this thread kicked off to begin with! A few pages back Marco addressed pretty much everything mentioned though so see if you can find it and see what you think. -
I don't get it at all - I have no desire whatsoever to either watch clips of other people playing bass or to film myself playing & put it on YouTube or whatever. It all seems a bit w***y & egotistical to me. I don't get why people would want to seek praise and/or acceptance from a bunch of people they don't know.
There are various reasons why I enjoy playing to an audience, whether it be live or on a YouTube video. I do admit there's an element of w***ery and egotism in there though I don't get why people want to seek praise from strangers either. But I do like it
Does anyone know when Markbass started fitting copies of B&C drivers rather than the real thing?
Quite recently. They make them themselves now! -
A little update on my latest NY121
Markbass' failure rate is ridiculously low so you've been very unlucky! Sure your replacement will be perfect once the drivers have been "broken in" -
We've been trying to tell you that for years, but would you listen??? Seriously, it's another word for not posting vids on YT that make other people feel worthless as bassists. Nice chops! Very non-altruistic of you! BTW, it's also used to describe the actions of people like myself when we don't post vids so as to spare other people from having to watch our attempts at attempting...
Sorry, I can't hear you over my excessively driven bass sound (and the resultant hiss/feedback) And cheers man Took me many years to be confident enough with my playing and tone to post anything on the internet. I could be a lot tighter, and watching back does help a bit to highlight that.
