1. Strewth. I was just curious about current Class A/B amps and what was good! Not really even planning on buying, just curious!
2. Awesome colour. I'm gassing for a 4 string VS passive in that colour! I'd have to sell stuff first and I'm not very good at that!!
3.
Here's my VM5 - custom ordered from Bass Direct; arrived a couple of weeks ago, and I've hardly put it down since. I love it.
Is that Marley Blue?
4. Lovely!
5. I swapped to the Neotech Mega Bass strap because of this. More comfy too.
6.
Myy house is insured through John Lewis. The contents cover covers instruments inside and outside the house, but I cant remember offhand what the single item limit is - I think is £2k. I fail to see why getting paid for gigs comes up in the insurance enquiry, I certainly wouldn't volunteer this info, but if they ask you'd have to tell them.
If you fail to tell something that might affect the policy then they can refuse to pay out. Paid gigs means more travel often at unsocial hours with a greater risk of theft. Therefore higher premium.
7. I had no idea Tecamp were doing 1u tiny amps - I'd only seen the 2u ones. I've had a few of their cabs - an M212 and a S210 and they were both brilliant. Might have to try their amps now!
8. Judging by my gig on Saturday, "Happy Days" is impossible. I played like a donkey.
9. What are the Mesa Carbine heads like?
10. This has me curious. Ordered a set to try.
11. I think it's now actually a criminal offence to try to avoid the consumer protection regulations. I'm sure I read that recently.
12. Parcel Flight. Bass Gear use them for Foderas etc
13. Mine are with Allianz. Allianz-Cornhill are the biggest insurer in the world. They pay put when you need them to and will still be around too.
14. Slight delay - Amazon delivered a 35DC instead of a 40DC! Have to wait for the replacement.
15. I like the demos I've heard of the TTE series.
16.
It isn't - it's just having an amp that can do the amount of power you need for a full note length. With some of the optimistically specced Class D amps you might need a '900W' amp whilst a Class AB that can do its 300W continuously might have similar heft and loudness. But it isn't the Class D or Class AB thing that makes the difference, it's the power supply. The iAmp 800 was Class D with a traditional power supply. The Markbass LM2 was Class AB with an SMPS.
I didn't know that. I assume that's why my Demeter pisses all over 99% of Class D amps I've ever tried
17. For many years I've only bought Class D amps to the point I have no idea what is available in Class A/B land. Hartke and Ashdown of course - but what else is out there that is any good? Ignore budget - I just want info really!
18.
Do you actually NEED more power?
19. Official photo from bass direct when I bought it, but here is mine
20. If it's an easy swap about £35 ish. If there is routing or wiring changes, then it's more.
21. Sounds like someone is looking for a wife excuse for more bass buying!! I take 2 basses, 1 amp, 2 cabs and my pedal board. My pedal board is mains powered but there is a DI box on there that has a battery in it too. That's it!
22. Thank you! Blimey, that is small. Mmmmmmmm......
23. Bit of an update. I have rehearsed and gigged with the EMG pickup and it fits in the mix much better - to the point that even the conductor has commented. Nevertheless the position of the pickup has a big impact on the sound and I find myself wanting to mix in some signal from the currently non-existent neck pickup. So, I have acquired an EMG 40DC and a 40J for the neck position. I don't know which one will be the permanent choice yet. There will be routing to come. I wish every pickup maker used a simple plug and socket system. Being able to experiment with the 40DC and the 40J without any soldering will be excellent. I have another 2 gigs before the summer break so routing will happen after that.
24. Can we have a photo of the receiver next to a standard Boss pedal? Just for a better idea of the size?
25. I think TC say only that to use 3 you have to use their cabs. No doubt that is because they are confident in their own measurements and not so confident in other brands and don't want complaints. So get a meter and check.
