1. I have severe GAS for a 5 string Fender type at the moment, but I have to say I'm tempted by a Carvin for that sort of price.
2. Simple supply and demand. No more or less stupid than the Akai / Klon pedal prices.
3. Ed's finally got round to doing a proper vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-ujgbDoNeI Sounds pretty good to me! Love the colour too!
4. File it. Won't need a lot just to smooth it off.
5. I'm sure there was a thread on this, but I can't find it. Are there any lightweight 1 unit power amps that the basschat massive can recommend? Don't care if it's mono or stereo as long as it's 1 unit, light weight and about 500W (mono or per side) ta
6. I can't avoid the italian in the orchestra! Piano might be the way to go for me. I recall Marcus Miller stating that he thought all the best bassists played piano too!
7. and the Letts Bass official https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lettsbasses/282169748481596?hc_location=timeline
8. I used to read Bassist and then sub'd to BGM for years. I stopped BGM about a year ago. If (big If) I spot it in a newsagent I'll buy it if I have to sit on a train for hours. I still like the feel of a proper magazine rather than web stuff. It must be difficult though - so much free stuff on the web and the magazines having to be 50% advertising just to have the funding to get printed. I do wonder if we are just hanging onto the idea of paper magazines when really the concept is dead? I hope not - I still like print!
9.
Yes, blocks and binding are really cool. Fender started implementing them in 2010-2011 on their American Deluxe model, if I remember well. Cheers!
New ones get blocks... but lose a fret!! Have to make the saving somewhere!
10. Different sounds for different gigs. Some 4 string P necks are too big for me though - but not, curiously, the 5 string! My P is a Jap 1962 re-issue that I bought used from Japan, and my "jazz" (ish) is a Fender Urge 2. Love them both.
11. 6 string EUB? Is it even possible to play Arco on a 6? must be like putting strings on a pipe!
12. I'm guessing... nothing! Still - it's a nice looking thing, and the prices are quite reasonable if it's built to 'Ray standards!
13. This thread interests me as I've been thinking about getting formal lessons. I have some very basic stuff - Grade 1 theory, Grade 1 Piano, Grade 3 alto sax - and these days I'm playing in an orchestra. I had a look at the Rockschool requirements and they don't seem anywhere near as complex as traditional classical grades. Is that correct? I was only looking at a few items so I'm sure I'm not getting the while picture. I'm actually thinking of taking piano lessons instead, so I can learn to read both clefs, and I don't need anyone to tell me where the notes are on the bass - I just need to know how to read the music properly!
14. The "tech" sounds like the usual snakeoil, but I have to say, it's a lovely looking bass! http://www.alusonic.com/hybrid/rigoni-signature.html It's very stingray like to me - but the non-sig models have passive pickup options. A Ray5 type with single coils interests me greatly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-xLmjJucmE
15. Huge thanks to Si600 for letting me have a play on his 5 string precision. It was lovely!
16. Blimey! You wait for years and 2 come along at once! Just when I've got no money. Bah.
17. Order one from Thomann They have a 30 day return policy. You pay the return postage if you just don't like it though. Pretty fair for such a long try out period - check the terms to make sure that it applies to all instruments though.
18. 20 years?? Blimey! You are going to hate the new ones!
19.
I can only imagine your pain! Nearest I got was a nine-piece function band - drums, bass, guitar, trumpet, trombone, sax, singer and two backing singers. Challenging enough, particularly as the drummer's timing was a bit 'special'.
I've got a psycho on the Kettle drums to cope with. I can't work out if he thinks he's marking time on a Viking Longship or he wants to be in Slipknot.
20.
Then ditch that TC kit you are using and get yourself a Markbass big Bang!
That went long ago!! I'm using a Genz Shuttle 9.2 and a Berg CN112. The mid controls have been a life saver!
21.
I'm in a 3+1 and have educated the guitarist on this point. Luckily he's relatively ego-free (for a guitarist) so all is well. Mind you I can't imagine how difficult it would be with two guitarists, keyboards, brass and three vocalists...
I'm currently playing in an Orchestra. Trying to get the bass guitar heard next to the tuba and trombone is a nightmare!
22. I've had MB stuff and TC RH750. The TC was loud enough, but it had no soul. I thought the LM2 was way better, much more musical to my ears.
